Do you feel that the U.S. is safer since the inception of the global war on terrorism? Should we be in Iraq? Afganistan? Are these operations worth the lives of our service members? Should the government have the extended powers that have been granted to it by the PATRIOT Act (i. e. warantless survailance or indefinite detention of non-U.S. citizens)? Is the world safer? Is the world on our side? How long should should we keep this up?

No we are not safer. In fact I think we are more in danger of something even more sinister than terrorism b/c of "our" war.

The civil liberties of others are something worth fighting for but that's not why we got into this war.

I don't know how to answer that question. There seems to be no right answer to something that started off so wrong. Maybe we should ask Bush.

No i dont feel the U.S is safer. Since the US had to start the war on terrorism becasue of 9/11, I feel like we have a target on our back. I feel like all of the terrorists are targeting us now. You always hear on those videos that the terrorists send over about how they want to get get the US back for all the things they have done to their country. I do think that the US should be in Iraq because we should still be looking for all of the head terrorists and trying to capture them. We should be trying to unveil all of the plots that terrorists are devising. I do think that the U.S has lost too many lives over in Iraq but I think that it has probably saved more. The U.S has caught a lot of terrorists planning to kill Americans and has destroyed plans terorists have come up with. I think in the end we will realize if we hadn't sent all of those troops over we would have had more terrorists attacks on U.S soil. I think the government was right in signing the PATRIOT Act. Im sure it has helped in catching terrorists and preventing future terror attacks. Any way the U.S can get an advantage in the war on terror, I believe they should try. I dont think the world will ever be safe. You will always have those crazy idiots that believe sacrificing their lives for a relgion is the only way to go to heaven. There will always be that person that will want more power and will do anything to get it. Yes I believe that the world is on our side. They would be stupid not to be because we are the most powerful nation in the world. I think most of the world doesnt want to deal with war and would rather see it ended. The U.S needs to fight till the end until all of the terrorists are caught, which will never happen. The U.S will always have to watch its back because we will always be the target.
We are the nosiest country ever, I'm sure. We have no business being over there. It's their country, their problems and none of it has anything to do with us. We should not be over there risking our lives and condemning us to death for a reason that isn't even worth mentioning.
People mention how we're the center of attention for the terrorists out there. You know why?? Because we don't know how to mind our own business. If we left Iraq and left them alone they would be a heck of a lot less likely to get ticked off at us and bomb our country! And when they do present a threat to our country, we get mad. Which is dumb because the only reason they are threatening us is because, what are we doing? We are over in their country bombing their people.
Can't people see that the only reason they're threatening us is because we're threatening them?

Whether we belong in Iraq or not, we can't afford it! Our country is over 9 trillion dollars in dept at the moment and we really can't afford to spend this money (that we DON'T HAVE) on a pointless war that in reality isn't solving anything.

I don't exactly feel like we are safer. As a country, i think we are more corrupt than ever. I think that there may be a silver lining to this cloud, but truthfully, it isn't worth the lives of our countrymen. I don't think the government should have some of the liberties that they have, such as the Patriot Act. I mean, where would it end?

I think the United States is definitely not as safe as we would like to believe. It's the threats back and forth that keep slimming down our safety even more. I can see how important it was for the U.S. to get inside over there, but sometimes I wonder. Yeah, it's nice that we are helping them get back on their feet and everything, but why? I really wouldn't want another country coming in, especially after they killed our fellowmen, to help us get back up. I am so thankful for what our soldiers and veterans have done, but did we really have to go over there?

I think that the U.S. will never fully be safe from another terriorist attack. I think that the war in Iraq is both good and bad. I think that if Bush sent us over there for the right reasons ( to help the people of Iraq) then it is a very good thing that we are over there helping them. If he sent us over there just to get back at them for what they did to us then I just think it is a joke. The world is not safer at all. I mean so many things going on in so many countries. We can never really truly be completley safe. I think that the world may sympathize with us, but not really on our side, more of a neutral party. I think that IF the war is going on for the right reasons then we should help them out as long as they need it.

To be honest with you I don't really care about the war and who is fighting in it. Even if there was no war the world would still be unsafe because we have crazy gangs still trying to kill other people. Look, if you want to go out to war and die for your country then go right ahead because thats what you believe in. If the government wanted me to serve my country I would tell them no because my life is more important than some stupid ass war. Besides, doesn't it state in the bible that thou shall not kill? Even if it wasn't stated in the bible no one should be killing anyone because it the wrong thing to do.

I don't think the US is as safe as everyone claims. Ever since 9/11 I think anything could happen. That attack was very unexpected, and who knows if something like is going to happen again. Is it a possibility? We may never know. I think we're somewhat instigating our problems, and bringing them upon ourselves. It's like chasing a dog's tail. Will it ever end??!

The war on terror I feel it will never end. We should leave Iraq and Afghanstan. We went over there and we know that there were no weapons of mass destruction. I personally don't think we should have been in Iraq in the first place they never attacked us. i don't think we should give up our civil liberties. I think the war should be ended and bring our service men and women home back to their families before any more damage is done.

I personally feel less safe living in the U.S. than ever. I am not informed enough in politics, so my opionions are going to be vague.
I do not believe that we should still be in Iraq. I hate what our government officials are making, money wise, off of this war, and what the soldiers and their families aren't receiving. I have personally seen the Army not give their returning soldiers the checks promised to keep them from having to go right back to work. I have seen them give antidepressants over the phone to soldiers without seeing them for a psyche evaluation. Is this how our government shows their appreciation? I don't believe the world is safer at all now. With all the mass weapons being made, wars going on, corrupt goverments, etc., the world is on its way to the toilet.

Honestly, I really don't know anything about what's going on with the war. I just think that we have enough problems as it is right now, that we shouldn't be over in another country trying to help them. Sometimes you've got to be selfish. I feel like the majority of people do think that we shouldn't be over there because all of the lives that are lost. People need to stop counting casualities and think about the effect of us being there. But, I do think that the US is very unsafe these days. Ever since 9/11I get scared that something will just randomly happen again. I really don't know.

I don't feel that the U.S. is any safer now. I think that we are over there fighting, but there is nothing to show for it othere than casualties, and I don't think that's right. I think that we try to help, but really just make things worse for everyone. I don't believe we should be in Iraq or Afghanistan because it seems like everytime we see progress, something awful happens and we have to start over. They are not ready to change so we shouldn't waste our time and MONEY that we don't have one countries that are not willing to cooperate.

No we are not safer. Our troops are more spread out among the world, so how could we be very strong in
America. I don't know if we should still be in Iraq. I have heard soldiers come home from Iraq and say that we are doing the right thing, but it just keeps dragging on. I think it is time to pull them out and bring them home. Even if we have helped improved the situation in Iraq, I don't believe it will stay that way once we are gone. If we are trying to set up a government over there, we will have to stay over there and run it for them. I think we should leave it alone. We cannot afford to be over there, spending so much money and risking our soldier's lives. I agree in saying that our country is nosy. We get in a war in Afghanistan because we were attacked, but now we are in Iraq and I don't really understand that. Maybe we should concentrate more on the problems in America and not risk out lives at this point, than spend millions of dollars in a war we don't need to be in.

Honestly, I don't think that the U.S. is safer at all. I think that since we are going into other countries and trying to get involved, other countries are going to start to get annoyed. Ever since 9/11, I think that we haven't been safe, that was totally unexpected and it could probably happen again at any time. i am not very politcal at all...and i dont care about the global war on terror or any war for that matter...i think everyone should mind their own business...if a different country wants to bomb the shit outta themselves...who the hell is america to butt in and try to stop it...why should america have to fork over money to try to get a country to keep from fighting with themselves or a neighboring country...its none of our business...i say we stay out of it until someone bombs our country...then we can go and kick their asses.

I do not feel that the U.S. is safer since the war began. If anything, I think we are more vulnerable to terrorism. What if another country tried to attack us and most of our soldiers are in Iraq? I have the utmost respect for the men and women who fight for this country, but what are we fighting for? I have family and friends serving in Iraq and I strongly believe that they should be home with their families. I love my country and I am so thankful I’m an American, but who are we to think that we can decide the fate of all other countries? Why does it have to be the American way, or no way? How can we have weapons of mass destruction, but tell other countries they can’t? I believe that the world thinks we’re a joke right now. I could see them teaming up against us because they’re all tired of being bullied. I have seen news reports explaining how easy it is to get through security in this country. Some reports have gone as far as explaining in great detail how our food supply can be poisoned. What better time to attack the U.S. than now, while most of our troops are shipped overseas.

We have lossed so many lives and so much money over this war, and for what? Terrorism? Please... First of all, it was about oil. Secondly, we went to the wrong country. And now we are putting all this energy into "stabilizing the Iraqi government." We can't even help our own people, let alone another country's people. And if we are truly there to help the people, we also need to go to Africa and several other nations as well. And I know some bad things will happen if we leave now, but American soldiers are just going to keep dying, and we're just going to keep spending more money. We're obviously not getting anywhere, we need to get the fuck out of there now! My heart goes out to all the people out there who have lost someone due to this war. As for the PATRIOT Act, of course the government shouldn't have that kind of power. A lot of innocent people have been "detained" in the past couple of years, and it will only keep happening.

Having many relatives in the military, I am ashamed to day that I don't really have much knowledge on the war. No, I don't think we should still be in Iraq. But I FULLY, 100% support my president, and our troops. Even if people don't agree with the war, please support our troops, they are there, doing their job, just so we can live free....please, just remember that!

I think us going into iraq in the first place was stupid. All thats happened is we've lost a bunch of soldiers. The problem now is that since we are there now we cant just stop now. So basically Bush screwed us over by sending troops over there in the first place. I say we just bomb them and take their oil. they don't want our help anyways.

I beleive the governemnt made some bad decisisons after 9/11. I mean if we were going to go help another country we should have taken the well being of the U.S. into consideration beforehand. Since we tried to reform another country and help them out look at what we have gotten out of it. There are many dead troops and others coming back to the U.S. heavily disturbed from all this combat. I think the U.S. should have shown no mercy and taken out anything in there way once they decided to engage in war. Probably not getting involved in the first place would have been the best idea. But now that we are fully involved some drastic changes need to be made. People have to realize we're fighting against a country whose citizens think dyeing in battle is what gives them eternal freedom, which can be an extremely dangerous situation.
