What are your views on euthanasia?

Should euthanasia (physician-assisted) suicide be legal?
Should a person have the right to decide when to die?
Have you ever watched a person, or an animal die slowly and painfully?
Have you ever watched a loved-one waste away, when they didn't know what was going on around them, with a bag attached to them for food, until they finally died?
Should a person have the right to die to save their family from huge medical bills, when
when they know they are going to die?
If you believe in euthanasia, what restrictions do you think should be placed on it?
Euthanasia: (Greek, "good death") is the practice of killing a person or animal, in a painless or minimally painful way, for merciful reasons, usually to end their suffering.
Thank you for your thoughtful responses.

I do not think that euthanasia should be legal. I think that the person who is injured has the right to decide whether or not they want to live or die, but their family members and friends should not have the right to decide for them. I have watched a family member and an animal die slowly and painfully. It is a very sad experience. The person should not have the right to die to save their family from huge medical bills when they know they are going to die.

I think in certain situations a person should be able to decide when they want to die. Yes i have watched my pet die a slow painful death. My grandfather also died the same way. I always wished i could have just ended it for him. I think that person should be able to choose only if there are no other solutions. I'm sure there's no family who would want to end a loved ones life just because of a bill. But, if that person is slowly dying and there's nothing esle that could be done, or if they can't take the pain any longer, the best thing to do would be to just end it for them. Tiffany Fields

Yes euthanasia should be legal, it is a personal freedom that should be protected under the constitution. The government has no right to tell an individual what they can or can't do to themselves. I also think that people have a duty to die when they become a hinderance to family and friends(terminally ill, comatose, or debt). One should not drag others down so they may live a couple of months or years. I have seen enough people in my family waste away untill death finnaly took them and I plan on ending my life before that happens to me.

somthing such a person in such poor health they are litterally waiting to die and in so much pain and agony every second of everyday should have the choice of euthanasia. i was really young when my grandfather had gotten ganegrene and it spread quickly all over his body, and he wanted to see Dr. Korvorkian, but my grandmother refused to take him. My grandfather knew he was pretty much rotting from the inside out and wanted to end his suffering, but wanted to do it in a repectable manner. He suffered for 8 more months before he finally passed. even as young as i was i understood what my grandfather wanted.i wish my grandmother would have taken him so he didnt have to suffer for so long.

I would aprove euthanasia when the person or animal is suffering and there is nothing that will help them. I do not apove it when an animal is not getting adopted for some reason.
I have a friend who has an organization called SAFE (Save Animals From Euthanasia. Em has this organization because she is tired of seeing animals put to sleep because no one will adopt them. The main animal that she helps is cats. The most unadoptable cat is the black cat. Em has done her research and has found out that there is no peer black cat. If you look through the hair on a black cat, you will find another color.
Once you have done everything to help the person or animal, and there is NOTHING you can do to help the animal's health, then it is ok.

I think that euthanasia should not be legal. However, I do believe that if a person is just a "vegetable" in the hospital, they should definitely have the right, or the family should have the right to use euthanasia. I do think there should be consent of 3 people in order to have it happen. People shouldn't use it as suicide, only suicide under medical circumstances.

I really do not think a person should have the right to decide when to die, maybe in some cases yes maybe they could decide when to die. I do not think that just because of huge medical bills that a person should be able to die to save the family the pain and the stress of the huge bill. Yes i have watched my dog die a slow pain full death and my grandpa suffered a lot of pain for about a year before he passed and i saw my uncle on a mechine that helped me breathe and if he didnt have it he would die, my aunt thought she would have to pull the plug on his life because he was only going to have a one percent chance of talking or basically anything. I think that God should make the decision most of the time when people should die. I feel that it is his job to do that not another humans job. At the begining i said maybe in some cases should the person be able to kill his/her self is when maybe that they are suffering from so much pain and have no chance of making it than they can decide to kill themselves to save themselves from the pain and the suffering. I think that would be it. Not just because you know you are racking up a big bill that you will leave with your family. So i really do not believe in euthanasia.

I don't really agree with the killing of people but putting animals out of their misery seems okay. I mean we used to have a dog and she got really sick and to keep her from feeling so much pain, we put her down. But then again, we have this horse that was born premature. She didn't even stand up for a week. Doctors told us that she wouldn't live, but rather than listen to them, my parents nursed her back to health and saved her life. So, I think there is a time and a place for it but that's each person's choice of when and where. As for people,I kind of think that they are in horrific pain, then do it, but even if alll hope seems lost, I believe in miracles and would hold on till the end.

I'm half and half on this topic. I think it depends on the situation that people are in. The person who is suffering has the right to decide to live or die. They should have the right to die because it's there lives. If that's there choice yuo should respect that and let them die. I've seen a family member die from cancer in the hospital and it was very sad. I think she should of just chose to put to death because she was going to die anyway and it would save her from the suffering and pain. Once again it's the person who is dying choice. If they choose to go ahead with the Euthanasia to help out there problem that is there choice.

I think that there are certain times where a person should be able to chose whether to die or not. I mean we give that choice to loved ones when we are on the death bed. When someone asks the spouse if they should keep the person on life support or pull the preverbal plug. What is the difference if someone can tell you wether they want to live or not isn't it the same thing. If a person had to live their whole life strapped to a bed and could not move or barely talk and wanted to be euthanized would you deny them?

I have some really mixed views on Euthanasia. First of all, I believe that Euthanasia is murder and that would make it morally wrong, but then I start to think about it. If I was lying their in the hospital in pain, waiting to die then why shouldn't I have the right to die. I wouldn't want to leave my family with hospital bills that are outrageous. I want to just say good-bye(if I could) and pass away. The only reason that I fear death would be if it is a slow death. I am concerned however if they do legalize it. How do we insure that no one will take advantage of it? There would definitely need to probable cause in order to perform the operation. You don't want depressed people walking into the doctor's office and saying I want to die.

I know if the person asks to die, it counts as assisted suicide. Killing, and thats what it is, is very fickle, some people want to live, others wish to die, and Who am I to judge whether or not someone should live. I watched my grandfather die slowly, and he didn't know who he was or who his family was. That was heartbreaking, seeing a formerly fun loving individual laid low by confusion. What of people with alzheimer's? They can't decide for themselves whether or not they want to live, so should we killl them anyways? If someone is braindead, who decides the fate of them? I think it could be a good thing, but people are too infallable to make good use of it, so It is murder in my eyes.

I do not think euthanasia should be legal, even in extreme cases. It is still suicide and that is just something I don't believe in. I have seen family members die slowly and I am always, to some extent, glad that they died finally just because they were out of pain and everything. We did put our dog down and I still feel bad for that, but then again, she was an animal. Don't get me wrong, I love animals, but I guess I'm just use to the idea of putting animals down since it has been around forever. Doing that to people just seems so much more harsh, even if it is that persons choice.
