Does Michael Vick's punishment seem fair for his crimes? Should the sentence be longer or shorter? Considering his celebrity, should he be given preferential treatment, or be charged as a regular criminal? If you were the judge/jury, how would you have handled the case? What if you were Vick's lawyer--how would you have handled it? If anyone has any input, please don't hesitate to put your two cents in. Thanks.

So far Vick is taking one for the team. To stay out of prison, or to shorten his term, he might have to spill some names, but so far he hasn't done that, and I give him credit. He's only one of the players in the huge sport that is dogfighting. I'm from Chicago, and I've been to dog fights, and I can tell you that Vick is no worse than many other owners out there. In fact, from the sound of it, he was nicer to most of his animals than most owners I know are. He treated them better. That's because the love for dogs is in his blood. He grew up with it. That's why he never saw what he was doing as wrong; he'd been around it for so long, it was part of his life. Try asking a soldier on the front lines if he still values all human life, and you'll get the kind of answer Vick might give about his dogs. He values them, yes, but he has to do what he has to do. Dogfighting and Vick go hand in hand. That's not entirely his fault because of the envoronment he was thrown into. He didn't choose it at first, just like soldiers don't often choose to go up to the front of the lines.
To all of the disgusted, sickened, shocked people out there regarding dogfighting. I am going to play devil's advocate and say this. UNLESS YOU ARE A PURE VEGETARIAN, get off your hypocritical high horse and get real here.
Do any of you know the cruelty inflicted upon cows, chickens, ducks, fish, etc. before we EAT them!!!! Horses, cows, alligators, and snakes are killed for our clothing apparel. Animals are tested and killed in laboratories so we can have cover girl make-up, soaps, deodorants etc.
All MEN should be created equal, I think we all would agree--so why is it that somehow animals are not created equal and dogs are held in a higher esteem to other creatures? Hypocrites all of you-- every one of you. Look at your own lifestyle and decide how much YOU are contributing to the cruelty of animals, and not just a select few animals you find cuddly--ALL ANIMALS!

I think Vick is getting what he deserves. He does have some stones for not turning anybody in, but I don't think that that alone makes it okay what he did. Just because he is a celebrity doesn't mean that he should get away with the crime. Hopefully, one day, people can look past what he has done, and he will be able to play ball again, he was pretty good!

Vick is getting the punishment for the crime. As long as his celebrity doesn't lighten his punishment then i don't have a problem with it. He has a lot of brass for not turning anyone in; that shows loyalty to his comrades. Loyalty is a high virtue in my mind. He should not get a lighter sentence just because he is a celebrity. It is my opinion that celebrity or not, people need to be tried the same for the crimes that they commit. Yeah sure people mess up and he was a good player, but if he gets out early he might be able to play again. That would make for a hell of a come back.

Vick is getting the right amount of punishment for his crime. Sometimes celebrities get out of tough situations because they are who they are. Celebrity or not he was sentenced to the right amount of time. I dont think he will ever comeback to NFL because his image to a franchise wouuld be bad. He's a phenomanal player and all, but his image as a player and person has been changed. If I was his lawyer I would have tried to help every way I could of and to try to give him less time in prison. He was going to jail no matter what, it was just the amount of time he was going to spend in jail. As Zach pointed out he never sold any of his friends out, which is very loyal and shows Vicks character. He apoligized on national television to his family, friends, and fans for his actions. It sucks what Vick did, but he is still a respected player in the eyes of me.

I think that he sould get the typical punnishment. I really don't know what that is for dog fighting, but he should get it. He shouldn't get preferential treatment. I would of handled it just like anyother. I wouldn't of been his lawyer.
Dani
I think he deserves his punishment, and he should serve just like a normal person. As the judge/jury I wouldn't have done anything differently. Of course, as his attourney I would have tried to make him spill some names to get a shorter sentence. He might actually have knowledge of some people that run the whole business. If he had something like that to give out, then he may not have had to go to jail at all!

Vick is getting the punishment he deserves. It doesnt matter if your a celeb or not, he should serve the WHOLE sentnce. Dog fighting is a pretty sick thing. He should just suck it up, serve it, and get back to the NFL Hopefully never doing dog fighting again.
Lindsay Brooks
I think that the sentence may be a little too harsh, however, he did commit the crime. A person should get the same punishment, no matter their social/financial status. He committed a crime, which makes him a criminal. I believe that there shouldn't be a difference between a celebrity criminal and a regular one. They committed the same crime, therefore they're both criminals. I don't know how I would have handled the case. If there was enough evidence against him, I'd label him as guilty. I wouldn't be Vick's lawyer. I don't know much about this, so my opinion isn't based on facts.

Vick is getting what he deserves. He chose to do what he did, and now he is paying for it. He remains to stay quite regarding others who were involved. If he decides to tell, his sentence may be reduced and he might even get to play sooner. But, he choses to stay quite. I don't care how famous someone is, the punishment should be the same for everyone. Everyone is human, and I don't think celebrities should recieve special treatment just because of their reputation.

This is a hard topic for me because I was a fan of Vick in college and in the NFL so i have been watching him for year so when i first heard about it i didnt believe it. I still dont know exactly what happened. Im also a fan of dogs though and if he really did all of the things that he is being accused of then i think he should be sentanced just like any other citizen would be. I give him respect for not spilling all the names and not being a snitch but eventually i think he will look out for himself and turn in some names to stay out of jail and get back on track with his life as a football player. In the end i think he will get off easier because hes got the money to get a good lawyer.
Jimmy Gourdier (12:00 class)
I think that he should be punished just as a "regular" person should be punished. Just because he's an athlete he's the same as any other person that comites a crime. I think that it was very wrong for him to have dog fights to make money. I can't believe that someone that is more than likely rich already has to do something so dumb in order to make some money. I hope that he gets a fair punishment, whatever that may be.

If Vick broke the law he should be treated just like anyone else in society. Plus I'm not a big animal lover, but I don't agree with cruelty to animals. This is horriffic how he allowed these animals to be treated. There was dead Dogs everywhere throughout his property. You dumb ass! Why is unlwfull evidence still on the property. Self-incrimination. He should do his time. He committed the crime!
I think Michael Vick is getting just what he deserves. I wish the sentence could be shorter because he was the most exciting player to watch. Even though he is a celebrity, he should be treated like anyone else. He shouldn't receive an easier sentence. He also shouldn't be made an example of and given a harsher punishment. if I was the judge or jury, I would treat him just like anyone else in the owrld who did exactly what he did. If I were Vick's lawyer, I would have taken the plea bargain when it was first offered and I not waited until the others decided to testify against him. That added years onto his sentence now. I know people claimed he grew around it, but he still needed to be smarter. He was one of the faces of the NFL and should have known the spotlight was going to be o him, even if he wasn't on the field.
Ryan(7:00)
I think he deserves his punishment, and he should take it like a man. People seem to think that this is not a big deal, but they don't understand that these animals are mistreated and abused and can die in the ring, and these crowds of people come out and cheer them on.I think that he should not be allowed to go back to football,he tortured those dogs if they lost, and just because he is "the best quarterback ever" does not mean he should get a break. He needs to pay for his crime.
Kassi
I didn't find that he'd been tried yet, I thought it was Dec. 10th. Obviously he shouldn't be given preferential treatment b/c of his celebrity! If I was a lawyer I'd do my job and get my client the best deal I could. If I was the judge or jury I would do my best to uphold the law.On the web site I saw, it sounded like Vick would do a little jail time and pay some fines. I think that seems like enough, but definitely not too much. Dog fighting is ignorant and cruel, but I suppose that animal testing is equally cruel and we're not trying to do anything about that. Still two wrongs don't make a right.
Call me stupid or whatever, but I have no clue who Michael Vick is. But I do know that just because someone is a celebrity or athlete should not mean they get special treatment. Everyone was created equal and still are. That includes being punished.
Elizabeth Kerns (9:00)
Michael Vick deserves any punishment that he receives. It shouldn't matter that he is a professional athlete, and I am glad that he is getting sentenced like a normal person. Dog fighting in general is a horrible thing to do, no matter if you are a regular person, or a professional athlete like Vick. As bad as this whole situation is for Vick, I'm sure that if he does issue a formal apology to everybody, he will be able to return to the NFL and play, and everything will be alright. I don't think that there is anything else that the lawyer could have done, Vick was clearly guilty, and I believe that he did the right thing by accepting his sentence, and doing his time like a man.
Chris Bohnhoff (Noon)
I think Michael Vicks punishment fit the crimes. He is a professional athelete and he knew what he was getting his self into. If i was vicks lawyer i would just accept the crime that a grown man put upon himself. You can make all the excuses you want but the truth is that vick commited crimes by engaging dogfights and betting on them. Vick is being used as a prime example that it doesn't matter how much celebrity status you got yuo'll be persecuted just like everyone else.
demaris winston(7:00)
I think Vick diserves whatever he gets. He did horrible things to those dogs. He's not the only one in on this shit though, so law enforcement needs to go after the rest of those fuckers as well. There is no excuse for what he has done, and I hope he's put away for a long time. I do kind of feel bad for him though, he really fucked up a potentially lucrative sponsor oppurtunity. Purina Dog Chow surely will never hire him now.
