truth about immigration

Is immigration hurting our country, helping it, or having no effect on it at all. How does it make us as a country who represents freedom and democracy look, if we turn our back on the poor and poverty stricken who come here for a chance at a better life for them and their family? Does the phrase on the statue of liberty not say we are a country who welcomes the tired, hungry, and poor? Would you as an American raise your children in a home with only brick walls, no ceiling, no clean water, as bug and roach infested as a place can be, fully equipped with earth floors and no ceiling, because it's what you are born in to, or would you take the first chance you had to get your family somewhere safer and better where they may have opportunities they deserve as humans?

Honestly, I think immigration is helping the United States. Everyone is complaining about how illegal immigrants are coming in and stealing our jobs, but if they all were kicked out like some people want, all the jobs we didn't want would have no one to do them. We have to face it, immigrants come here and do all the jobs we as Americans don't want to do. If they all left no one would be picking produce, therefore no one would be getting vegetables, and no one would be able to eat them. When you think about it, if we didn't have immigrants doing those jobs, we wouldn't be able to run as a country. I myself think that if someone wants to come into this country and try to make a life for themselves and their families, they should be able to. If I was living in a rotten country, I would take my family and do anything I could to make a better life for them.

I believe that you can move to the United States, as long as you become an American citizen. I would never leave someone out in the cold or think twice about helping someone in need. But when people are coming to America illegally and not becoming a citizen then thats where i draw the line. They sould pay taxes like i do and be judged the way that im judged. I grew up around so many illegal immigrants and got to know them so well. They are so many good immigrants and some bad ones. Just like there are so many good Americans and some bad ones too.

I believe that immigration is hurting our country because most of it is done illegaly. People who enter our country are taking jobs away from those who are legal citizens. If you want a better life for your family, then make them legal citizens. Of course I wouldn't raise my children that way, because we have more money. The question about raising my children is too hypothetical for me. Americans aren't in that situation. I would take the first legal chance, but I wouldn't just hop over the fence.

I think that immigrants in general isn't hurting our country. I just don't think that they should illegaly come into our country. If they want to come that's great but they should respect our laws and do it leagally. If America doesn't let them come in then it is contradicting itself. I would try to make a better life for myself and my family, but I would do it the right way.

Immigration, to me, is not as big of a deal as people make it. These people come over from their countries to escape their old lives to work and live free. They usually end up doing the jobs that us americans wouldnt dream of doing. They seem like thay actually help America's economy. I think if someone wanted to bring their family or themselves to America, then they need to do it the right way. Be a legal citizen. Dont try to sneek around because its just not worth it. Everyone has the right to take their families away from non-livible areas to make a better life, and I dont feel we have the right to stop that, as long as the abide by the laws here in america, since we have to as well.

I believe that this is the greatest country in the world....this may sound a little crazy, but people come here to be free. If they come here illegally then they have to face the conceqences. This is a great place to live and why wouldn't anyone want to live here, but you also need to follow the rules if you want to be concidered a citizen.

To be honest i am more so against immigration then for it. If people are going to go through the necessary steps to become a U.S. citizen then i have no problem with that. The main problem i have is that of illegal immigrants just walking into our country without the proper identification and passports etc. Each year i pay a large amount in taxes like most of the other hard working americans in the U.S. If your going to take jobs from legitimate citizens and recieve money from american coroporations then you should pay your taxes like everyone else. As long as immigrants are paying the same taxes as me then i have no problem with them coming into our country. No one should be deprived of the chance to immigrate somewhere else to better themself and their families financial and safety concerns. Just do it in the correct manner and become a legitimate citiczen and pay your taxes like the rest of us. We all pay a cost for our liberty and freedom to be a part of this "land of oppurtunity".

A lot of people believe that these immigrants are coming in and stealing our jobs because they do not expect to recieve a high amount of compensation to be pleased with a job, but havent we as Americans became greedy in that since. If a person is so concerned with not getting the job they want at the pay they want, then why dont they humble themselves the way these "immigrants" do and take the job-you will get raises.I do not believe that people are turning their backs on them, because an employer would probably chose someone that is going to accept a lower pay,and if you look closely there is plenty of help that the poor can get, around here as long as there willing to swallow their pride.

I think that immigration has gotten a little out of control. But it's no different now than it was when our ancestors came her, searching for the better life and freedom. These people are for the most part seeking better lives, and I think we need to acknowledge that rather than kick them to the curb. However, with people sneaking across the border, they could bring diseases and infections that could spread. I'm not in any hurry to revisit the Black Death.

Fist off the Statue of Liberty was given to us by France.
I believe the words of John Quincy Adams illustrates my veiws nicely.
"Wherever the standard of freedom and independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her [America's] heart, her benedictions, and her prayers be. But she goes not abroad in search of monsters to destroy."
More or less it's not America's problem to take care of the people of the world. These immigrants are violating laws that protect our sovereignty and citizenship. If these people have a problem with their country they should be acting to make it better. I think a several million of them could make a change, instead they run over here because we have a weak government. Our forefathers fought to make America free and we have continuously fought to keep it free.
I believe that if I have to work hard for my money and to keep my country free, then others should not get handouts, especially with my money.
Relatively few people look at where illegal immigrants are really hurting us financially. We end up paying for hospital bills, incarceration, public services, and public education, which end up costing billions.

I do not believe immigration is hurting our country as much as others make it out to be. The immigrants do not take jobs anyone would really want and we underpay them, so we give them crap jobs and crap pay. I don't see how that is hurting us but it is helping them. I think the states should show gratitude to those that do the dirty work. If no one did it then where would we be? It is sad that we turn so many people away, yes it is against the law to be illegal in our country but think of how many people illegally came to our country during times of need. We didn't turn away those that came to us for help because of famine or war. If we had turned those people away, a large part of our population wouldn't exist. I wouldn't exist because my great grandparents immigrated from Ireland! You can ask poor nations all over the world where they would want to live and they would say the U.S.A. because they think it is "the land of opportunity." We should help others as a nation and I know we do to a point, but there is much more we could do. I would never want my children to live like many families in 3rd world countries and even Mexico. They literally live in cardboard shacks with dirt floors, one window, and a sheet covering the doorway! If people want to come here to make a better life for themselves then that is wonderful!

Many of the immigrants that come to this country are Hispanic. It is true that many of them take up many of the jobs in our country. But the thing is that they usually work in assembly lines or other jobs that are particularly unwanted. Yes, the Statue of Liberty does stand for freedom and anyone that wishes to have freedom can. I still agree with these ideals that were formed many years ago but i also do think there should be a happy median. Our polulation is very quickly becoming out of control. A census should continue to be updated every year to have a good idea of our population and how many people can come into our country every year. i want to make whoever we can happier, but we can't allow one country, such as mexico, be completely evacuatted and allow everyone to come to America.

Immigration is ok to a certain extent. If you come here from another country that does not speak english, learn how to and learn it well before coming over here. This is the main problem that I have, half the time I can not understand the people on the other end because they do not speak clear english. I also think that it is rude to speak your launge in front of us just so we can not understand what you are saying.
The only other thing is that we have so many people from other places working here and we still have Americans on welfare because they can not get a job. I am talking about the ones that want to work not the ones that just want to stay at home and make everyone else pay for their needs.

If people come to America, I believe they should do it legally and become citizens. Otherwise, I don't think they should be here. They shouldn't disreguard our rules and come in here legally. That's not fair to any American citizen. Also, I don't mind that they speak other languages, but I think they should have to learn english. I don't like how we have to learn a different language so that we can talk to them. We are in America and english is our language, so they should have to learn it.

I think that immigration is ok as long as people go through the correct steps to become a citizen. I am perfectly fine with foreign people moving to america if they go through the correct steps to become a citizen and pay taxes like we do. Illegal immigrants really piss me off because they are just living in our country without paying taxes like we have to. If I had a family that was living in poor conditions like described in the question then sure i would want to more to america considering all of the oppertunities there are. But i would also go through the steps of becoming a citizen. I also hate when i see foreign people in america that can't even speak english. That is another problem with illegal immigrants. For example: I have heard that there are many mexicans in the south westernt part of the U.S. that are trying to write a spanish version of the national anthem to sing at there event. That also pisses me off. Learn the language. It was written by and american in america in english. Thats how its to be sang. Not in spanish. I think that all illegal immigrants should be kicked out of the U.S. and they should be forced to go through the process of getting their citizenship. If they really cared enough to get their families into the U.S. then they would go through the process but I think the U.S. government is being too lenient on who can come in and out of our country.

I don't have a problem with immigration as long as it is done legally. I think it's fine if they come to the US, but if they break the law and don't become a US citizen I don't think that's right. I don't necessarily think it's hurting our country, but I do think people are breaking the the law by not becoming a US citizen. I can forsee this being a problem if it continues to happen illegally, but hopefully people coming to our will obide by the law.

Although I'm not prejudice, I believe we have a shortage in jobs for American people because immagrants will come over and work for little of nothing. Therefore, we have to work for a lower pay without a choice. This sucks. This force more people to get at least two jobs.

Immigration, in my mind, is definitely hurting the United States. I know they do some jobs that aren't too appealing to us, but they need to come here legally. They need to pay taxes like I have to. I have no problems with immigrants, just not illegal immigrants. We welcome those people who want to do all of these jobs and have a better life, but just don' do it illegally. People say the legal immigration process takes awhile, but if they really cared for their families, they would wait patiently and not break the law.

I also believe you can move to the States, but just as long as you become an American. It really gets on my nerve always hearing about illegal immigrants and that they don't pay taxes. It's BS, they should have to do the same things everyone else is doing if they want to be apart of this country. I know alot of people that are against immigration. I'm neutral on the subject I think. If people want to come to the US looking for a better life, then I think we should welcome them. America is a rare, great place and people should be apart of it if they want.

Immigration is an issue in our county but i don't think that it is hurting us that bad. People talk about how some of the labor jobs are going to be taken by immigrants because they will work for less. This shouldn't be severe enough to not allow immigrants into the country. If we started turning a lot of people down it would make the country look cruel, and not like a place of opportunity. I would never raise my children in an environment that would be unhealthy to them, and for this reason I think that people should be allowed to immigrate to the United States. The U.S. could offer the immigrant children greater opportunities in life, and give them a chance to make a name for themselves. If they had to stay in their homeland, they might be stricken with disease, due to unhealthy living conditions. Immigration is not hurting our country enough to worry about it.

I can understand why the government is trying to keep immigrants out. And I think in America, American citizens should come first. However, it is incredibly difficult to become a citizen here, and Mexico, at least most of it anyway, is extremely poor. So of course Mexicans are going to migrate here. Wouldn't you? Ideally, what should happen is America should help stabilize Mexico's economy. But we can't even help our own people, let alone help another country. Especially while we're in this stupid fucking war.

I don't think that illegal immigration is necessarily hurting our country, but I am against it. The people who are coming into this country illegally are pretty much just taking the jobs that nobody really wanted to do in the first place, and I don't see the problem there. The problem that I do have is that by being in this country illegally, those people aren't paying taxes like the others in America. Even though this type of activity is illegal, I do kind of feel for the people that feel they have to go to this extreme in order to live a better life. It is hard to fault someone for trying to find a better life, even though it is still illegal and shouldn't be done.

I am for immigration being allowed. I do believe that this does hurt America in some ways. I also believe that we do some of the damage ourselves. I could never shun someone for trying to flee a bad situation or environment.

Immigration is helping our country in my opinion. It shows that our country is the land of the free and we welcome everyone into it. It would hurt our countries reputation if we turned our back on the poor and poverty stricken who come here for a chance at a better life for them and their family. I wouldnt raise my child in a home with only brick walls, no ceiling, no clean water, is bug and roach infested as a place can be, fully equipped with earth floors.
