Michelle's questions about Tattoos

What are your likes and dislikes about tattoos?
Have you ever thought about getting a tattoo?
If so, what where your thoughts, where would you place it, what motived you to think about getting a tattoo?
If you don't like tattoos, why?
What do you think of when you see people with tattoos?
How many tattoos are ok and what is too much?
If you don't like tattoos, do you judge people with tattoos?
Do you link all people with tattoos together?

A tattoo is a way to express yourself, a way to set you apart from everyone else. This makes a tattoo sound very appealing to many people. However, the only bad thing about a tattoo is that it is permanent so when you are 80 years old, you will still have that tattoo on your lower back that you got during spring break in college. So, if you are going to get a tattoo, you should definetly put some thought into what it is that you want to get. I had thought about getting a tattoo on my lower back because it just seemed very sexy when I was in Cabo this past summer. However, after puttting some thought into it, I realized that i would not want to do that because it would look really tacky when I am old. When I see people with tattoos I think that they are using the tattoo as a way to express themselves and it is very meaningful. When a person has tattoo's all over their body, it looks trashy and is not very appealing. However a few tattoos that have meaning are very intriging. Lastly, I do not feel that it is right to stereotype so I would not link all people with tattoos together.

I would never get a tatoo. To me its nasty and you are destroying the beautiful temple which god has given you. What if later on in life you cant stand that tatoo? Then you would have to get rid of it. I also can't stand needles so there is no way I could ever handle doing this even if my beliefs were different. If a person comes up to me in a coffee shop with tatoo's all over there arms. This person would disgust me. I would think how could they do that to there own body and on the other hand if a person came up to me with a small butterfly on there arm I would definately be ok with that.

Although I have not yet done so, I have considered getting a tattoo. In September of 2007, I got in a car accident and flipped my car. I thought that I was going to be dead, but ended up walking away without a scratch. After that day, I thought that I wanted to get a tattoo. I would be on my right calf, and it would be a block cross with a rose in the bottom right corner with my family's initials on the top. I know exactly what I had wanted. The reason behind my tattoo, was simple. My grandmother (Rose) that I was named after, had saved me, along with God. A few days after my crash, I had the chance to get the tattoo, but the thought of having it forever, scared me. When I see people with tattoos, I always ask the meanings behind them. I believe that if you have a tattoo, there should be a meaning behind it. I think the pointless tattoos that people get (a lizard on their foot, etc.) are a waste of money and energy for the artist. I'm not going to lie, I do judge people with tattoos. I mainly just see girls with tramp stamps and immediately think they're sluts. I know that's probably not right, but I do it.

When I went through catholic school as a kid, I was taught that I was suppose to treat my body like God's temple and that tattoos were evil, but I don't believe that at all. Some tattoos are used to tell a story or to remember somebody. When this is the case, I believe that tattoos are fine. What I don't like to see when people have their whole arm, leg or even chest covered with their tattoos. I wouldn't judge anyone just because they are covered with tattoos. They are merely trying to express their self and that is what they chose to do. I also don't link people with tattoos together because everyone has a different reason for getting a tattoo. My brother has a tattoo to remmeber my mom that passed away and I would defintely not link him to someone that a band name tattooed on them. Tattoos are fine, but there is defintely a limit. My likes about tattoos is that its mobile art that you like and means something to the person that has it. Dislikes about tattoos-once its there its there for good unless you have it covered over or have it removed with a laser. I personally have thought about getting a tattoo. The only reason i havent yet is that i cant decide on what i want to get and where i want to place it, since it will be there for life. When i see a person with tattoos it doesnt really effect me. Its their choice to have tattoos and show them, no one should be able to stop that or judge them for having them. Honestly i think people should have as many tattoos as they want, its their body let them express themselves as they see fit.

A tatoo is just a simple way of self expression. If someone wants a tattoo I say to go for it. I have recently thought about getting a tattoo and have been meaning to get in. I know it is permanent and is always going to be there, and i think it is just a simple way to have something you will remember. I think it is also very important to pick a tattoo that will mean something to you in the future not just some meaningless thing you get put on your body to look cool. My mother is actually very cool with getting a tattoo and wants to get her first one when I get mine. I think that it is not a very good idea to get a tattoo with someones name, initials, ect. because of the fact that it is permenant and will remind you of that person for the rest of your life. All in all tattoos are a generally good idea as long as you think about what you want long and hard and see if you could live with being 80 yrs. old and still having the tattoo.

I think the meaning behind a tattoo could be really deep or it could be really shallow. I beleive that if you get a tattoo then it should have a meanig behind it. I mean honestly, if you want it than understand that this symbol or picture will never leave your body. So when your skin starts to sag you had better still be happy with it! Otherwise the action of drilling ink into your body would seem almost worthless. A tattoo is a way of expression, holds meaning, and could be a symbolism of faith. This brings us to this question. "Where on the canvas would you place your picture?". If you're conservative, put it somewhere where only you would see it. If you want to flaunt it, get it in a place that it could be viewed easily by the rest of earth's inhabitants. It all depends on the meaning and the type of person getting the tattoo. I think that if I got a tattoo it would be of a small lily on the left side of my lower back. For me the lily symbolizes my personality. It's conservative, gentle, and elegant looking. Its so simple, but yet its still so beautiful. The lily actually means dare to love me. So the meaning almost becomes obvious. I wouldn't flaunt it. I would want the art that I carved into my body to be special to me and only me. The tattoo would then become like my own little secret. But I do beleive in stopping points. Too many tattoos can sometimes look trashy but a few of them with really strong meanings can be fascinating. And yes I do believe that everyone with a tattoo should be linked together: as strong personalities who wish to express a very deep part of them selves.

I think one or two tattoos can look tasteful if done right, but a ton of them looks awful. I would never get a tattoo; the only things I want permanet on me are scars. I have no problem with people getting tattoos, its their body and their right. I don't judge people on their looks, so I generally don't label people or think a certain way about them.

I think are tattoos are very nice. It all depends on what kind od tattoos and how it looks on you. I always think about getting a tattoo but never have the time or the money to go get one. I want to putmy little brothers faces on my shoulder like my friend has. I also want to out a tattoo on my upper arms and on my back. I dont want to have visible tattoos when i apply for a job because people that are hiring will some times judgee you by your appearance. I think tattoos symbolize something special about your life. I love my brothers,so i want to put them on my shoulder to show my love for them. I think people with tattos are very expressive people. I have never met a person who got a tattoo just to have one. They always have a some sort of story on each of there tattoos. I think you can get as many tattos as you want depending on where you put them. When you start to put tattos on your face and on your head that is enough and starts to draw the line on getting tattoo.

I really do not have many likes about tattoos. The ones i have are yes they can be a good thing and represtent something tragic or good in one persons life. My dislikes about tattoos are that they are to permient. Once you get them you are stuck with them. I heard that you can get them removed but they cannot take out green and it leaves you with a scar. I really do not want a green spot with a scar on my arm for the rest of my life because i thought that i really wanted a tattoo. If i were to get a tattoo i would get it on my upper arm and it would have to have a great meaning behind it. Something i think that would have to motivate me into getting a tattoo would be a death in my family and the cause of death was cancer or of something of that nature. Anything besides that i really do not think could motivate me in to getting one. I kind of judge people with tattoos. If they have their whole body covered in them i ask my self why would anyone do that. I think that one tattoo is ok and after that i wonder what the meaning behind them are. Tattoos just are not me.

I don't know what the draw of getting one is really. I mean I understand if you get one that means something really special to you. I have even thought about getting one at one time or another. I may even get one someday. The place where I draw the line are people that have them everywhere. I just always wonder if one day they will wake up and hate the way they look. And what about those people that completely alter their bodies with metal and all sorts of other crap. I am not against that sort of stuff, but I'm not really for it.

I guess I like tatoos, especially on women. Some draw your eye to strategic areas of the body, and some just serve as decorations. Some also commerate occasions, or things people want to remember. The only thing I don't like about tattoos is they usually look like crap after about ten years. A few people keep them up, but that is rare. I wouldn't want to get a tattoo because I'm sure I would be one of those people who don't keep them up. I especially wouldn't want to be covered with tattoos, but it doesn't bother me if someone wants to it to their own body. I guess I don't judge people by their appearance very much, but I would guess it would be harder to get a good job, or a job dealing with the public, if you were covered with tattoos. No, I'm sure I don't link all people with tattoos togeather.

A tatto is a permanent reminder of a past memory. I like to see tattoo's. They represent a strong memory that someone wanted to always have with them. Even if it is the drunken night at spring break. I've seen 80 year olds with tats, it aint pretty most of the time, but some of them look even better. I don't think "sexy" comes into my mind when i see a tat, i guess it depends on what it is and where. It can be a way to stand out or express themselves or even remember a loved one. Tattoos all over the body-either the person really likes to feel a needle on his skin or he or she is obsessed. A little bit is good, but too much of anything is bad.

I like that a tatoo can mean what ever the person wants it to mean, and i dislike that some people get a tatoo just to get one, i think that if you are going to get a piece of art on your skin, that it should mean something that you feel very strongly about. I plan on getting a tatoo next year sometime. I would get a pheonix on the middle of my back at the base of the neck, i veiw the pheonix as a sign of the eternal life, because they never die, and they are always reborn from their ashes. Its more or less a symbol of hope, hope that there is life after death. when i see someone with a tatoo i want to know why they got it and what it means to them, and hope that they didnt get it because it looks cool. I think that a few is ok but if you get your entire body covered in them, then i think its kinda weird.

I like them fine on some women, depending on the design, and I tolerate them on men. I never look too close at men anyway, so if they have a tattoo I'm likely not to even notice.

No tattoos for me, and I've never thought about getting one. Maybe in the future when they're no so trendy. I don't like participating in trends because I feel as if I'm being influenced too much by the media and the masses. I don't like anything that everyone else is doing.

I don't think anything in particular about people with tattoos--well, except maybe that they are probably followers instead of leaders. How many of them would have a tattoo if they'd had to think of the idea themselves? Not many, I'd guess.

I'm fine with people who tattoo their entire body--makes me think they're more original, that they truly know what they like and have a sense of who they are. A tattoo on a man's upper arm often suggests strength to me; a tattoo on a an attractive woman's lower back often makes me want to see her butt.

I do not link all people with tattoos together. I think I do link sexy tattoos on women with the willingness to have sex more easily, but I know that's often mistaken.

One last thing to think about . . . why do some people appreciate tattoos but object to piercings? What's the principle difference for these people?

Self expression is the best way for anyone to vent their emotions, whatever they may be. They create as well as help you keep memories that you do not want to lose. Their is nothing wrong with tattoos, I have two and if they were cheaper I would be sleeved up.

Personally I don't think I would ever get a tatoo. It's not because I disagree with them, but I don't see why. To me, people do it just to be cool or rebellion-right when you are eighteen you go get a tatoo because your parents would never let you. A tatoo will most likely be on your skin for the rest of your life, and 20,30, or 50years down the road...will you still want it? By then, your skin isn't going to look the same and your tatoo will probably either shrivel or stretch. It seems to me that the majority of people today who are getting tatoos don't have a meaning for what they choose to permanently put on their skin. Chinese symbols that mean "crazy", or things like that are just pointless. They don't have any significance because it's just a word. Many designs aren't original or creative either. On some people, they have something totally unique that actually has significance. My cousin, for example, has an awesome design of an angel going across him. It starts about half way up both arms and across his chest and back. The design is very unique and complex. And on top of that, it has a huge significance in his life. I don't mind that tatoo because he didn't just get it to have a tatoo. If you have one and it means something significant to you, I don't have a problem. But if you are just doing it to rebel or to be cool, I think its dumb. I just know right now I wouldn't get a tatoo.

It seems like once someone hits the age of 18 the tattoo parlor is the first place they run to. I think it's stupid that people get tattoos just because their of age. I'm am definitely not against tattoos, but I think they should having a meaning or a story behind them. They're a great way to express your personality and represent who you really are. But, people change as they get older, and sometimes that tattoo that used to be cool when you eighteen isn't any more. People need to put more consideration into getting a tattoo. You're permanently marking your body, and I just think people should take their time deciding on a tattoo that is right for them.

I do not personally have a tattoo, nor do I ever want one. I have zero tolerance for pain and I just don't see a real need for one. Sometimes there are stereotypes for people with tattoo's but usually it's when they have a bunch covering their entire body. And that also goes for putting a tattoo on a certain part of your body. Some people get them places that they know will be seen and looked at in a different way like the "tramp stamp." But it's their body and they can do what they want with it. The real way I see it is just think of yourself with that/those tattoo(s) when your 80. Will it still be cool then? Will you still be trying to flaunt it so you can get more attention? Maybe, but for the most part....no. I don't judge people if they have tattoo's or not because having some ink on your skin, doesn't define who you are inside.

I think some tattoos do look good, but I would never get one. I don't judge people who have them cause I understand that's how they express themself, unless they got one just because their friend or someone had also gotten one. A few are ok, but when you get them running all they way down your arms and everywhere that is just ugly.

I really have no problem with tattoos on other people. As long as its not something stupid, and it looks decent on you, then that is your choice to get one. I have never really thought about getting a tattoo, partly because I wouldn't know what to get, and also because I don't think that I would want to have something permanent like that on me for the rest of my life. If I see somebody with tattoos all over his body, I am probably more likely to judge him, just because that is human nature, but if I get to know somebody like that, it won't stop me from liking him. I know that some people like to represent themselves in different ways, and tattoos are one way to do this, but they just aren't for me.

I really don't care about tats. They're not that big of a deal in my book. I don't have one, but that's just because nothing has tickled my fancy enough to get it permanently on my body. It is a way for a person to look unique and I'm all for that. Sometimes I just wish people would really think about how they look, because I've seen a lot of cases where people just go too overboard. But, then again, it's just a way to express themselves. It's our own body, I think that we can do whatever we want to do to it.

I was raised around many different people who had tattoos. I love that the possibilities are endless when choosing one. They come in so many colors, shapes, and sizes. I don't like seeing the same tat on everybody. I only have one tattoo, but wouldn't mind more if they weren't so damned pricey. The first thing I do when I see someone with a tattoo is check out their art work. You could never have too many. There is just as much of a wide range of people who get tattoos as there are tattoos themselves

I have two tattoos one is a serotonin molecule and the other is a nautical star with water crashing around it. I got the molecule because not only is my specific career medicine its the main neurotransmitter that when boosted relieves depression and since we currently dont know if this is the actual cause of depression but find it a useful tool. Anyways i got it because my family suffers with severe depression and we have lost one to it. Second tattoo i got for the amount of miles i traveled at sea and my overall career in the navy. I plan to have a quarter of my arm covered and about half of my back all symbolized by life accomplishments and things that make up my life good and bad almost like a visual art diary. I could care less how many tattoos a person has but if they look act and dress the part of someone trashy or dangerous i will pass the judgement to let tattoos be the predominet reason for negatively judgeing some one i think is more of a moral battle in people. To the wearer it could mean everything or nothing, regaurdless unless you know the story judgeing a person with a tattoo is useless the ignorance you have to its meaning should be an automatic void on using it for judgement. in my opinion
