War Against Terrorism

The War Against Terrorism How has the war affected our nation? Do you think that after September 11, where some three thousand were killed, that we should have retaliated the way we did with war? Are we making a change over seas? Why do you think so or why not? Here is a link to aid in your comments on the war: http://www.globalissues.org/Geopolitics/WarOnTerror.asp

The war has made America less creditably. On a story on CNN an ex-soldier said he spent 4 years in Iraq and said after they caught Sadam, he was there 2 more years thinking that he was looking for weapons of mass destruction. While Bush had told America that we had soliders over there to fight terrorism. After 9/11 I believe that the war was a good idea. I think after we found Sadam though, that the war should have been over and only a few soliders should have remained to find Osama Bin Laden. Over seas we are making a change. We are helping Iraq reestablish its presidence and government grounds.

I believe that our nation does not understand what we are fighting for. It's our freedom. After September 11th, I think we did what we should have done. We had something very tragic happen to us, and now people are not appreciating what our soldiers are doing. They are risking their lives to keep us safe. From stories, we are not really changing anything. Iraq does not see that we are trying to help them, to believe in themselves to be a country that is good. If they all would stop being stubborn and accept our help then maybe everything will be happy. We can help them and get out of Iraq.

i think the war has affected our nation because there are so many different people that are for and against the war. the people that are against the war hate everything about anything to do with the war so that brings tension between people. yes i know there are always people out there that argue but the war seems to just add more to the arguement. i dont think we should have jumped into the war so quickly but something had to be done. i dont really know what any other alternatives could have been done but the war seems like it is a little redundent, but thats just me. i think we are making a positive change over seas by helping out countries with their governments and other sorts of leadership, but i dont think that many soldiers need to be over there to assist with that. i appreciate every soldier that is over there but i think more people would appreciate it if they were able to come back and be with their families.

I think we responded in the right way after the attacks on our country. We went to Afghanistan and annihilated the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, and in early 2003 we went to Iraq. Of course, Afghanistan does not get as much media coverage as Iraq, thus making it a less popular point of discussion. Iraq is not going to be an easy situation. When the biggest facet of any Iraqi's life is religion, and that religion preaches violence and hatred towards the western and christian world, it is never going to be easy to have them cooperate with us. And on top of that, you have 3 different religious sects in Iraq. I'm sure you have heard on CNN or FoxNews about Shiite, Sunni or Kurdish conflicts. Until these religious sects unite, or come to peace with each other, there will be no quick fix. Although it may be an unpopular war because it is not quick [read: vietnam] I still believe it was the right course of action, and support it.

first of all, the reason we went into war had nothing to do with 9/11. 9/11 was a big setup because a lot of the people that worked at the twin towers called in sick that day. the reason i know this is because i don't follow the american news, i follow all of the other news like from over seas and countries that had nothing to do with anything. also it seemed like Bush didn't care when his secret service told him about the crash. the main reason america went into war was to try and finish what Bush's Bush (dad) started. America went into countries that had nothing to do with 9/11. America is making a change overseas, but it is not a good change. every body overseas should have just been eft as is and they would have eventually worked things out.

9/11 and the war are two separate issues to me. After 9/11 we should have found the people responsible for the 3000 plus lives lose that day and executed them. That would have sent out a message to the world that we will not tolerate an attack on our country. The war is a difference issue. I think out troops was sent over to Iraq to clean up a mess we should have finished the first time we where there. People in this country was still hurting from 9/11 and I think the media and the president used this angry to send the troops back in. With that being said, I will always support the troops fighting for this country. People who do not support the troops and this war should not enjoy the freedoms in this country, because if it was not for the military of today and generations past we would not be the free country we are today

Yeah I think we retaliated in the right way. We have to show them that whatever they do we wont just sit back and take it. No I don't feel that we are making a big difference over seas. We have helped free Iraq, but at what cost. We have lost to many soldiers over there, and there are many more that won't be coming home anytime soon. Every family with someone they care about over seas has to worry about whether their son or daughter, husband or wife, will be the next one to die. I know that was a choice that they all made, but it just seems like it is pointless. The war is still going on and we really haven't done that much good over there.

The War Against Terrorism has effected our nation in many ways.
-Higher security levels
-The Government has made new braches to help protect us from terrorist, i.e. Department of Homeland Security.
-New laws have been passed, which may or may not invade your privacy depending on your opinion, an example is the Patriot Act.
-Immigration has become more popularly known problem.
-And others
Sorry I have to go I will add to this later

After 9/11 we saw America unite on a very high patriotic level. American flags were all over the U.S. People were doing everything possible to help show their patriotism. When we went into Afganistan everything was still on a high level. Then we went into Iraq, we all saw this as a much needed thing to do to fight terrorism. Now there is alot of people and politicians that think we have worn out our welcome and need to stop the fighting and let Iraq fix their own problems. No, I don't think we are making a change overseas, we still have alot of influence, but there are some nations that ignore what we say and do.

I believe we were right in responding after 9/11 but we responded to the wrong country and people. Also, I think that we should not be over in Iraq anymore ... we are just making things worse. Plus we already captured Saddam, found out there are no weapons of mass destruction and everyday another American soldier is getting killed. I think its stupid for Bush to think we are changing anything over there. I just believe we should be working harder to find Osama and less time sitting in a country we have no business being in in the first place.

The war has affected our nation for the worse, our young men and women,brothers,fathers,cousins,daughters,ect...die at war, everyday. In September 11,some three thousand were killed, yet now every single day thousands are killed. The casualties in Iraq are an estimated-23000 - 100000!!!
It's not worth it,war begets war,it doesn't seem like wit will ever end,and it's not worth it.

I think the war has torn our nation apart because we are fighting a war that the majority of our population disagrees with. It has become a similar situation to the Vietnam War, where there were many protests and debates over it. Yes, we should have retaliated in some way after the attacks because they were direct and violent attacks on our country, peace of mind, and innocence, but not in the way we did. Saddam did not direct the attack of 9/11 and, though he was a ruthless dictator, he should not have been our focus. Once we learned who was responsible, we should've targeted the Taliban and Bin Laden, establishing anti-terror task forces to infiltrate known Taliban hideouts in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan. Declaring war on one country that wasn't even directly responsible just didn't, and still doesn't, make sense. Yeah, we are making a change overseas, but not in a good way. There is still political turmoil in Iraq and the situation is not getting much better. In the meantime, we are losing thousands of troops...there's just no excuse for taking so many young lives and futures for a war that doesn;t even make sense.

I strongly believe that the War against terrorism has affected our nation greatly. Not in a positive at all, it's all been in the worst possible. Our people are dying over seas, more then that killed in the 9-11 attack. Our nation is the one suffering for the war, it's cost Americans their lives and from this war the economy has gone down big time and many people have lost their jobs over this. All the prices on everything has gone up, especially gas. I think the war was handle incorrectly but it's to late to fight that so we should just realize what's going on and stop this from taring our nation apart more then it already is. To many innocent lives are being lost and many negatives are the outcome of this.

....HILLARY FEARS..THE WAR ON TERROISM IS VERY STUPID I THINK.. THE WAR HAS AFFTECTED US IN A BIG WAY....FOOD PRICES ARE RISING DAILY AND GAS HAS WENT UP TO AN ALL TIME HIGH FROM TIME TO TIME. I THINK THAT WE HAVE HURT MORE THAN WE HEALED BY RETALIATING THE WAY WE DID. WE HAVE LOST MORE LIVES AND HAVE LESS BEROS.....IT'S SAD. FROM MY POINT OF VIEW WE REALLY AREN'T MAKING A CHANGE WE ARE JUST CREATING MORE OF A MESS. WE ARE KILLING EVERYDAY AND AREN'T SEEING THE BENIFITS..WE ARE WASTING TAX DOLLARS ON GUNSS TO KILL WHO WE THINK ARE THE ENEMY...I JUST THINK THAT THE WAR ON TERRORISM SHOULD BE DOME WITH..

I think that it was necesary for us to go over seas, but i dont think that it was needed for us to be over there for this long. It is only going to continue hurting our nation and our economy in a horrible way. Not to mention that thousands have been killed for this war and being sent over seas even if they are feeling that it is not necesary and dying for the country and the war.
