Electric cars--our vehicles of the future?

Do you think that electric powered cars should be more popular and are they practical? With gas prices at an all time high and pollution getting worse as time goes on, do you think that we should switch to electric cars? Do you think that in the long run that that you will save money by buying an electrical car? Other than the expense of the electrical cars what are some cons of having them?

I think electric powered cars are great! With gas prices so high i think it is definitely a great idea to "go green". Even though electric powered cars are more expensive, you get your money back in the difference of gas prices in less than 4 years. It is also a great way to leave less of an impact on our environment. I think the biggest con to having an electric powered car is how well they last in the long run, since they haven't been around for very long no one knows the long term affects of having an electric car. I also just recently heard an article about how electric powered cars are dangerous for blind people because they are so quiet and you can't hear them coming, now I'm not saying i agree with that, but I guess it's something to look at and consider. It would be hard for everyone to switch to an electric powered car because of the prices, but if it is in your price range I think it is definitely something you should seriously consider.

Eletrical cars are what the world needs right now. They should be made more main stream like gas powered cars; they should be cheaper to buy as well compared to gas powered cars. With the gas prices rising and pollution getting worse, everything we do should be focus on how to work around and fix those two problems. I think that in the long run buying a electric car would be benifical, but then the government would begin to raise the prices for electricity. So it all depends on how the government would cope with the loss of money coming in from billion dollars gas companies. The only con I could see possible happening is that in the long run the electric cars would take more burn out. Plus the drive slower, so most of the speed limit signs would need to be changed.

Electric powered cars would be amazing to have right now! I wish I myself had an electric powered car. Gas prices are on the rise and are now up to $3.45, which is horrible and makes me sick. With the world going "green" these days, electric powered cars would be a practical way to cut down on greenhouse gasses, and save money. I believe that in the long run people who buy electric powered cars will save thousands of dollars. Everyone who drives spends thousands of dollars a year on gas, we could take that money that we would be saving a put it towards buying one of these cars! I think that some people are skeptical of these cars because they dont think that they will go as fast, or look as cool as regular cars. But, i would rather have a car that was ugly and didn't go as fast, than a car that sucked down gas!
I AM ALL FOR ELECTRIC CARS!!

I think that electric powered cars would be a really good idea with the way that gas prices keep going up. It would be a good idea to switch to electric, but just like any other car problems could go wrong. You could end up spending more money to fix the car than what you originally paid for the car. But in the long run switching to electric would save you more money because you are not constantly spending money to put gas in your car.

Electric cars are going to be a lot more popular in the coming years as gas prices continue to soar. They are a great way to reduce costs of gas and will clearly make up for themselves as they cut out a consumer having to purchase gas completely. So, if the cost of these new cars is holding consumers back, they should reevaluate and calculate how much they spend on gas. They number will drop to $0 with an electric car. Oil is a limited resource so we will have to switch from gas at some point anyways. I think a major con of the cars a the moment is that their are no charging stations to charge your car at, so it would be more difficult to charge your car than to just fill up at a gas station. Also, charging a battery takes time, especially if it were a large one, which is an inconveince if one did not have time to leave their car charging somewhere.

I think electric cars are our future. They are becoming more and more popular.I am not sure if they are more practical or not but i do know they are becoming more known. I think we should switch to electric cars but i have heard some downfalls to doing so. I do think that it would be of importance to our country to help the economy. I have heard that the money in gas you saved you make up in the price of the car. I have also heard that the life expectancy of those cars is not the same as our cars not. Something like not being able to last longer than 10 yrs. Cons to having the car would be to use too much electricity so that could potentially damage the earth like gas pollution. Another problem is actually not buying gas anymore and putting money into the economy so if we dont buy gas anymore we can hurt the economy.

Electric cars are nice, but they have some negatives.

1. Can't go over 55 mph.
2. electricity isn't getting cheaper.
3. some people just like the gas guzzling suv's.
4. maybe not the safest thing

I think it is a nice idea, trying to save money and the environment, however I just don't think the technology is there yet.

Yes, electric cars should absolutely be more popular than they are now and they are, and will only get more and more, practical. Our worldwide reserves of fossil fuels will only last for so long and they take a devastating toll on the environment, so a switch to electric cars, as soon as possible, will be necessary. Making the initial change to all hybrid vehicles while more research and improvements are made on making electric cars better and more affordable is the logical way to go about it.

Once all the details and limitations of electric cars get ironed out, I think that a person will definitely save money in the long run with an electric car. They won't have to be subject to erratic gas prices that are manipulated by the handful of oil-rich countries of the world, many of whom don't like us. Also, an electric car suffers less wear-and-tear than a gas-powered engine does and will require less repairs over time, saving even more money. With several new ways of generating electricity (wind, water, solar, etc.) constantly being discovered and tested, the cost of charging up will go down while gasoline is gasoline and will always be subject to supply and demand pressures.

The only cons of having electric cars, other than their current cost, that I see are engine life per charge, not enough charging stations currently available, and less power for jobs such as hauling heavy loads. However, these are things that will be researched and improved upon year after year.

I think electric cars are definitely the cars of the future. But, I know several people that currently have one that say when it comes time to replace the batteries they are just going to buy a new electric car instead because of the cost of replacing the batteries. When the cost of replacing the batteries is high enough that you would rather buy a new car it's high. I think once they improve on the battery life and the charging problems the cars will become very common and cheaper to own. I also think gasoline prices are going to force a lot of people to start looking at electric cars. Right now I don't think people will save money going to an electric car, until they are improved and the prices come down of the cost to own one. Right now hybred cars look like a better buy to me, but they also have some problems that need to be improve on.

I think that having electric cars would be awesome. I hate the gas prices right now and they are going to worsen. I think that we should switch, but a couple of problems. What if you are going on a long trip. My dad hates flying and will not get into a plane, so we drive where we are going. Would there be charging stations everywhere, would it cost to park for a while and charge. How long would it take to charge. I guess you could have a back up battery or what ever like some vehicles that have two gas tanks. It is a good idea!

I don't see any particularly strong reason why electric cars shouldn't become the norm some time in the future. Batteries are only becoming more powerful due to demand in laptops and cellphones, electricity is cheap in comparison to the wallet-devouring monstrosity that are gas prices, and you're only really losing a bit of acceleration and top speed. If Wikipedia's article on electric cars is to be believed, then your average electric car pays fuel prices 1/4th of what your average gasoline-powered car has to pay at the current cost, and with the current cost of gas being so high, you'd ened up saving a lot of money, which is always a good thing.

I think that electric powered or hybrid cars should be more popular because gas is outrageously priced and we are polluting our earth! I think that it will definitely save us money and I'm not sure what the cons are other than I heard they don't drive as fast as other cars. I would like to eventually own one when I can afford to buy a new car.

I love electric cars! Because gas prices are WAY to high! It now takes me $50.00 to fill up my tank (and I have a little car). I think the electric cars would help save money and also help out A LOT with the pollution. I think some day there will be a lot more electric cars driving around towns. Yes, I do think in the long run people will be saving more money on gas with electric cars. The only con I can think of is they are ugly! BUT they did just come out with an electric SUV which wasn’t that ugly! Other then that I LOVE electric cars!

Electric cars were the earliest automobiles. They produce no exhaust fumes and minimal pollution. They are expected to be cheaper to make because they have fewer parts. They coud be more popular, but maybe people just don't like them as much as our cars we have today. Personally I don't think we could just switch over to electric, it would take along time before the world would ever do that. Yes, I bet it could be cheaper, but what would they do with all the gas? I really don't think that would ever happen and if it does it would be many years.
