I think abortion should remain legal in the United States. Before it was legal, there was a lot of damage done to women and some even died. I think there are too many abortions but every woman has the right to decide what they want. I think to decrease the amount of abortions, we need to change the values and morals of our youth.

I think that abortions should stay legal because its the decision of the woman who is carrying the child. It is her choice. Who knows the situation on why they are considering it or not. Using protection helps cut down the number of abortions.
Hi, Shantel. Yes, I think abortions need to remain legal in some cases, but I think they are generally immoral and should be legal only in cases when the mother's health or life is at risk.
I feel bad about how the abortion issue has been sort of pushed aside over the last 10 years or so. Meanwhile, many unborn babies continue to be killed. I'm not sure how many abortions occur in the United States every year, but I just read one site that said this:
"In the year 2002, about 1.29 million women in the U.S. had abortions. In 1990, that number was 1.61 million."
Maybe the significant decline in the number of abortions in the United States has something to do with people not making a lot of noise about the issue anymore. But 1.29 million is still a bunch of abortions for a single year, especially to people like me, who think the number should be more like 1,000 or so.
As I said, the only cases that I think abortions are okay are when the mother's health is at high risk. In cases when the mother's health is at risk AND the baby is likely to have severe problems leading to a very short life or huge disabilities, I think the woman probably SHOULD have an abortion.
In most cases when the mother's health is not at high risk, I think it's wrong to have an abortion, and this includes cases of unwanted pregnancies caused by accident, rape, or incest. No matter how the baby got there, once it has been conceived its life is as valuable as another life, and to abort the life is murder, in my opinion.
I think abortion should be legal. It is the womens body and as long as she's old enough to understand what's going on with her body it's her right. I'm grown with two kids and I don't want anyone telling me what's best for me and my body.
Most people ride the line on whether or not abortion is okay. I think in the cases of accidents and unwanted pregnancies, abortions should be illegal. If the woman's health is at risk or the child will have major disabilities or short life, i think the decision is up to the woman. If she and/or her partner wants to go ahead with the pregnancy, even with the complications, that is thier choice. However, in cases of incest or rape, espcially in young girls, I'm not sure what my thoughts are. If a young girl was raped and got pregnant, an abortion could seriously effect her ability to have children in the future. But no child should have to give birth to another child just because someone else hurt her. Teresa Osterbur
