College athletes work just as hard as pro's, so they should be paid for something. Alot os students have sports scholarships to pay for school, but what about their other expenses. If the pro's can get paid for doing what they love why can't a college athlete. I think pro players get paid too much anyway. Shannon Black
Short answer: no. If you start to pay the athletes schools are going to get into even more competition in recruiting than they do now. Salaries for players would get way out of hand just like it is in the pros and the millions of dollars required to sustain a good college team in any given sport would come out of general school funds at the expense of academic students. Tuition fees would skyrocket worse than they are now just to pay millions to the next great player that happens along. Colleges are learning institutions; their athletic programs are secondary. It should be good enough for athletes to get full-boat rides to these institutions based on nothing more than their physical prowess; we (as students) shouldn't have to suffer just to spoil them further.

I dont believe college athletes should be paid because many of them if they are good enough are having their college paid via scholarships isnt that enough.
Tom
No I don't think they deserve to be paid because their still just students and that they're are just partially athletes if any thing they should do an internship with professional teams so they can figure out if that really is the life they want then they can start shaping their life from that point.

I think that college athletes should not be paid because they are not playing pro ball. Its just college ball and they should look at it that way. If they get recurited for pro ball then they can think about getting paid for it.

Sure--let's pay them with easy 'A's in most of their classes, celebrity status on campus, a semester's worth of excused absences, a free education and living space, loose chicks to fuck at frat parties, free drinks and meals at the local bars, and a look-the-other-way approach when it comes to breaking rules that other students must adhere to.
What? They want $$ too? Sorry, but no cash. We have to draw the line somewhere.
Jason Horath
No they should not be paid. They are going to school to get an education playing sports is an extracurricular activity.

I feel that college athletes should not be paid. I feel that college should be used to increase your brain power and to improve yourself. There are many athletes that receive scholarships to help pay for college, some of those scholarships pay for all 4 years of college. This is a benefit in itself for athletes that many other people do not get.
Robbin R.
No they should not....more then likely the college they are playing for are paying for room, books, and tution, that is to me the same concept of pay. They are also in"training" still, they arent proffesional yet, but if they work hard and are good enough they can get drafted, so they do make money.
No I don't think they should get paid. They are in college first and formost to get an education or at least they should be. Some players have gotten a full ride on a scholarship and have their education paid for by playing sports. They don't always love the sport and have it first and foremost in their minds they just want college paid for. There are students out there that are having to pay for their own schooling so this is just a plus for those that can play a sport and have gotten a scholarship for it. If we start paying college athletes then it will make tuition go up so high that a normal person will not be able to afford to go to college.
Nancy Byard
Uh, yea i guess they should be paid, but not as much as the pro athletes do. Because they are still students, and should spend more time studying, because eventually they will be to old to play sports.

no, college athlets should not be paid. if you are going to college then you should be htere to furhter your education and not be there to get paid. shouldent having free education and free room and board be enough. colledge athletes are paid then they should not go to college, rather they should be put into a septerate leage that is not affiliated with any college.
nick
No,They are trying to make it. There students just like you and I: should we get paid? They already have the big scholarships to big universities something most can't get. I think their you have to start at the bottom to get to the top. They have to struggle and pay their dues, just like the ones before him.
Tamika Newbern
I do not think that college athletes should be paid. Most are already getting paid to play for their college with scholarships. I think that going to school for free is good enough. Some of these kids wouldn't even get to go to college if it weren't for their athletic ability. If they are good enough, they get a celebrity status and probably as much free stuff as they want as it is. If they got paid in college, it wouldn't be as big of a deal to go pro. They need to work up to their career just as all of us do who are going to school to get a career. If they are taking on pro basketball as their career then it wouldn't be fair if they started getting paid in college.
Elizabeth Moody
College athletes should get paid in a benefical why. Like offering students a full ride scholarship were everything is paid for them through there college era. College athletes are constantly being pressure in the game and at school. Many of the college athletes try really hard and if the team makes it to the finals then the school is getting the better part of it.
Money can't be a way to paid colleges because many students would only go to colleges were they get more money to play.
Orlando Ontiveros
I dont think that college athletes should get paid. I know that it is not fair if the school is making a lot of money of the individual, but the students are using the school to show off thier talents to get into the pros. They get enough with scholarships, just for playing sports so why should they also get paid on top of that?
Jeff Still
I think if college athletes got paid it would ruin the games.College sports are great because it's still pure. They are trying to get the money which makes every game a tryout.

College sports appeal to me so much more than professional sports do. There is nothing better than watching young adults competing. Not for money or for contract extensions; but for pride in the individual and pride in ones school. I am partial to college basketball. I enjoy the fact that they are playing at the highest level everytime they step on the field or court without the incentive of millions of dollars. Having said that, I do believe they are compensated for their time and contribution. They are compensated in the forms of scholarships and other luxuries that the rest of us are not privey to. A full college scholarship can be worth tens of thousands of dollars. Along with free travel and free meals, the life of a college athlete is far from poor. They may not be paid in a traditional mannor, but thet are compensated fairly.
