Trey's S&R Question

What can or should be done about capital punishment in the United States? Should death penalty laws be abolished or revised, or should they stay as they are? Does it make sense to you that some murderers are executed and some are not, depending on in which state they commit their crime?

Capital punishment should never be used. The law states that the penalty for killing a man is death. That means that the state then is convicted of death when they put someone else to death.

Who are we to decide who should live and who should die? Which of us is perfect enough to make that decision? How many times have we been given a second chance by someone? Is it not playing God to kill someone?

There are pactical issues too. The number of people killed who turned out to be innocent is phenomenal. The justice system is not watertight enough to carry a conviction of death. The governor who has put the most people to death ever was...GW Bush, and look what happened to him! Do we really want people like him, or retired film stars sentencing people to death?

Finally it has been proved that it does not work. The murder rates are no lower in the US than in the Uk, if not higher, so there are no benefits at all

This is a very easy question for me to answer, too. Murder is wrong; you have to agree on that concept before you can convict someone of murder to begin with. Capitol punishment is murder therefor it is wrong as deemed by the very people who advocate for it. Bush and his "Christian right" are all for capitol punishment, but denounce abortion as murder. Does this make any sense? How can one argue for the right to life of a fetus and ignore the right to life of a full grown man or woman?

To me capital punishment should be controled by the federal government, so that states would not be able to have seperate laws. They shouldnt be revised in my opinion that would just make things worse, if anything they should be revised.

like i said in a similar question, i feel that for those who are real murderers, not just accidental killers, there should be a whole seperate system for them. I feel that there should be a more arena style punishment. Im being serious. If all the murderers were put together in a large enclosed arena, small melee weapons, and a option of living. Knowing that every other person in the room was a cold blooded killer trying to make it out alive, and your standing in the way. I would really hate to be in someones shoes at that moment. These people are willing to kill people, so why should the state kill them, let them kill each other. if they want to live that is.

I think capital punishment should be revised some but need more study. I do not understand why some people who murder someone with a history of felonies are not executed. When they admit they did it and committed the worst murder you could imagine.

I feel as if the punishment should reflect the crime. If you murder and rape people than you punishment should be slow and painful. i think the lethal injection isn't fair enogh in some cases. I don't think the inmates should sit on death rowe for years and years, if they commited the crime than lets give them what they deserve. They shouldn't sit in their and waste tax payers money.

I think if the person is a serial killer the death penalty would apply. Why put him in prison for life, our prisons are over crowded as it is. I think the punishment should fit the crime that has been commited.

I don't believe that capital punishment is right. I think that it is based on the idea that two wrongs make a right, you kill somebody so they kill you. That just doesn't seem to make sense to me. I think that someone who is considered worthy of capital punishment should be locked up in solitary confinment for the rest of their natural life. That seems way worse than death to me.

I think that the death penalties should stay as they are. If you look at it aren't the people that get sentenced to life being punished more since they have to spend the rest of their lifes in a cell and the murderers on death row get put to out of their missery sooner. If the murder that was commited is severe enough then that person deserves what ever they get. Because no matter what we don't want murders' getting off on good behavior just to turn around and do it again.

I think the death penalty should be legal in every state, and should happen more often. They need to be revised and made more strict....people wont commit a crime if they NO FOR FACT if they get cuaght they die....and it should be the same law in all 50 states with the death penalty!!

Nothing, unless using capital punishment becomes more fail-safe. I belive that killers should be killed. Now i know what everyone says its not the christian way. Well i'm a christian and i believe in capital punishment. I mean look back in history and the bible, who started christianity as we know it today..pretty much the Romans..and who did the roman's kill..the son of god, even though he came to die for our sins the Roman's still killed him. Although i believe they should make it with 100% certainty that the person is guilty of murder, and if they are not 100% sure..even if they are 90% sure they should then just be sentenced to life without parole..(unless later deemed they were innocent)

capital punishment in the United States should be abolished. killing people because htey killed someone in barbaric and juvinile. taking another persons life for another life reverts us back to the time when an eye for an eye was the suprime law.

no, it dose not make any sense that some people are killed and others are not, which is the flaw in capital punishment. who is to say who dies and who is not.

I used to believe in the death penalty. Afterall, the killer didn't care when he murdered his victims did he? (heinously/viciously) The good old "eye for eye". I also figured that putting the murderers to death would be cheaper in the long run rather than keep them alive forever in prison. My opinion gradually changed. First of all, is the death penalty really a deterrment? I don't think it's made a decrease in the number of murders. I mean, how often do you actually hear about someone being executed. I don't think it happens often enough anyway for people to really be "scared" of it. I feel it's not right to turn around and kill someone--I know I couldn't be the one to actually put them to death. What about the people who have been cleared by DNA and other evidence that had been sentenced to die? Besides that, I think that being stuck in a jail cell for life, is punishment. Hope that helps some, Katrina Schoonover

I have a very strong opinion on the death penalty. I believe that if you commit a certain crime and convicted, you should automatically get the death penalty.
That is why I feel that the laws should be revised. I think that it makes no sense that some people get life in prison and others get the death penalty for the same crimes.
I also feel that the convicted criminals that are on death row spend too much time there. I believe that once their numbers of appeals are up they should be put to death at once. I don’t know why tax payers have to flip the bill to feed, cloth, and house criminals that have committed crimes such as rap and murder.
