The world has become to convienent, these days you dont even have to go to the store to buy groceries thanks online delivery services. Couple that with the amount of junk food in the world and the weight just adds up.

It is such a problem because parents let kids eat what they want when they want. It all starts when they are babies. Everytime they are hungry you feed them. Well that carries over when they're kids too. Feeding 2- 10 year olds whenever they're hungry. They feed them so they don't look mal nourished until they get to the point where they can't see thier feet. C'mon folks say no once in a while. Kids aren't going to starve to death. Feed them 3 good meals a day and let them have a couple snacks and thats it. It's so much easier to start young than to have them go through life fat and being made fun of in high school, not being able to play sports and then tyring to lose it all later in life before they get heart disease and die. It's a shame we do this to our loved ones.

I think obesity in America is a huge problem and should be taken very seriously. People and families are so busy that take-out food is in high demand. I like the way that McDonald's has revamped their Happy Meals. Parents/children can now choose apple slices, juice or milk. Now all we need is for someone to come up with a way to disguise vegetables so children will eat them, but not know it.

I'm form the old school, the goverment did not spray so much chemicals on farm land as they do today. It is what we eat that makes us fat not how much we eat. We have a bad heart desease rate going on if we don't take better care of our selves it will be more serious problem then we already have. My youngest son is over weight and the way he lives in Chicago, I taught he would lose some pounds but I quess not.

We have to many fast food restraunts , Eveybody and their families are so rushed to go here and there, exspecially during summer it seems like there;no time to eat healthy. Society needs to push healthier food groups;less pop and more exercise jhixson

I think Americans and people in other highly developed countries are still adjusting to having so much energy-saving technology around. Many people have realized that since they are not getting any exercise at their work they need to find other time in their lives to be active, but overall I think our society has been slow to respond the sedentary nature of many jobs.

Many people consider exercise unpleasant, the last thing they want to do early in the morning or after a full day at work or school. If activity is enjoyable, like playing with your kids or playing tennis or soccer or something, then people are more likely to do it, but many people aren't motivated enough to get out and find enjoyable activities.

On a side note, I know some large people who claim not to mind being large, despite the social and health implications. I don't really believe them, but some insist they'd rather eat and enjoy life than spend time jogging or whatever. For these people, I guess I'd say "More power to you, if you really mean it" because I think it's very difficult in our society not to care at all what others think of you.

More often, though, I see very large people and feel terribly sad for them because I know our society is not Fat friendly and that it must be very lonely to be extremely obese.

Sort of random thoughts--sorry about that, but I hope something here helps!

Obesity in America is a major problem. There are too many Americans that are extremely overweight and probably don't see it. Fast food restaurants, take out food, and pop in dinners are taking over our society and are primarily contributing to the problem of obesity. People from other countries and societies don't nearly have the problems that we do. They look at Americans and wonder why they look the way the do. Americans like to eat but hate to exercise. We focus to much on watching TV or sitting on the couch rather than getting outside and working out. We decide to drive everywhere instead of walk. I think as Americans, we need to realize that this is a serious problem and something needs to change. I don't think our eating patterns will ever change becase fast food restaurants strive off the way we eat. But, we need to realize that we should and need to eat in moderation.

We do less activity then we did years ago. Every thing in our society is about convenience. I have 4 TV in my house and each one has a remote control. I even have a control for the radio. We need to stress less fat and more excersise. Keep moving every chance you get, play ball, golf, etc.

I think a lot of the problem is everyone is in a rush, so they go through the drive thru on their way home from work or school. And we never have time to exercise, and if we do have some time to ourselves we just want to sit down and relax, becauses our lives are so busy and stressful that we know we should exercise we just don't have enough time and energy.

I think fast food has a good deal to do with the problem of obesity. I know there have been law suits against fast food places for making some teenagers overweight. We have become a society of computerism. We are also so fast paced that we don't have the time to make home-cooked meals that are well-balanced. Not only is fast food restaurants a problem but frozen dinners and pizzas that are quick to fix have just as much fat in them. Companies are trying to battle this bulge by paying for some of the fitness programs fees. They are also encouraging healthy eating by having salad bars and healthy choice entrees in their cafeteria's. This will always be a battle as long as we remain working 40-60 hours a week and don't make time to plan healthy meals and time to exercise.

i think alot of our problems is movie stars. everybody wants that movie star body and are crazy enough to not eat. another thing is the magazines. girls are always gettin these magazines and seeing these models that are air brushed like crazy. and finally we are just lazy. instead of starving yourself why don't you just go workout for an hour or so 3 times a day its not that hard

I had always active in middle school and high school: mainly in sports to keep my grades up. Today kids don't even want to go outside to play or just to run around: LAZY. I don't know what the problem is other than the parents not taking responsibly for their children. Parents don't cook real meals anymore; McDonald's get old after a while: and it's catching up to our children.

I think obesity is becoming more and more of a problem everyday. Parents have stopped making their kids eat as healthy and they have stopped eating healthy as well. I think that everyone has stopped caring and that is why no one feels the need to exercise. Everyone is too lazy to get up and exercise and try to be a little active to burn off some of the many calories they intake each day. Parents have stopped cooking the healthy homecooked meals and have moved on to the more convenient drive-thru's or take out. I think obesity will keep getting worse because there is no motivation to really stop it.

Most obesity problems are the fault of those who are obese. They decide to give up and eat what they want and not excercise. Society is trying to change by offering nutritional facts and restaurants and fast food places but most people don't care. Most of the people who are concerned about what they are eating are those who are in shape or have medical reasons. At most stores, McDonald's no longer offers to supersize. Those people who normally supersize will just order more, thus McDonald's in making more money, so are they really doing for our health? The only people doing anything about America's goal to get fit are most women who need to lose 5-50 pounds and not the obese who are supposedly being targeted.

Obesity in America is a huge problem. Kids are growing up on the wrong kind of food, and they arn't going to change their habbits when they get older. We have grown up on preservatives and don't like the taste of food that doesn't have it. I know it can be hard to get kids to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, but I think we need to start trying a lot harder. I grew up on skim milk and even though the majority of the population can't stand the taste of it, it is the only milk I like. I think another problem is the portion sizes we now have. I hate going out to eat because when I'm full, it doesn't even look like I made a dent in my plate. I end up eating untill I'm completly stuffed and then I still end up taking half of it home. Why can't they reduce the serving sizes a little? I can't say that I blame fast food restaurants because it still comes down to the choice that we make, but they do make eating unhealthy very tempting.

Good Luck,

America is like that because we are one of few countrys that have the means as citizens to over do every thing.People won't change if they don't think there is a problem.

I think obesity is a growing problem in this country because availability, bombardment, and laziness.
There is some much bad food all around us no matter where we go. It is in all of our gas stations, supermarkets, malls, in every city and town. There is just no escaping it. I feel that if we are surrounded by all of these unhealthy choices of what to eat, we are bond to become over weight as a nation.
The bombardment is what we see on TV, in the news paper, and on billboards. There are some many advertisements around us that there is no way that we can’t think about food. All you see on TV is advertisements for a Big Mac or a Whopper. If food is always on our minds, we have no choice but to eat.
I also think that our country is no longer interested in exercising. We would much rather sit around and watch TV or chat on the internet. There are tones of options for entertainment other than physical activity.
