YES! Gays should be allowed to adopt children and raise them as their own. Some of society seems to think if a gay person raises a child that child will become gay as well. I am an adult who has changed her life and lives as a gay woman, who has one bilogical child and a step daughter. Me and my wife raise them both to be open minded and to not judge people because of their lifestyle choices. If America would make it easier for gays to adopt then we wouldn't have to search in other countries when there are children right here that need loving homes. My parents aren't gay and I grew up to be, so that shows right there that just because your parents are one way you won't turn out the same. Shannon Black
I think that there is one obvious disadvantage to being raised by a gay couple: the child is being raised in an environment "outside the norm" and will be treated differently by his/her peers. This isn't very much different, though, than a child that grows up poor, or black in a white neighborhood, or any othercircumstance that may prove adversarial. Adversity, after all, builds character, right? So my short answer to your question is yes. With so many children throughout the world growing up without any parents it is just silly to deny caring adults the chance to adopt them. I don't buy into that "gay couples will raise gay children" theory.
I've seen some couples who have adopted children and they are not much different as any other parent. Some of the beliefs might be little different from what is taught between a man and a woman, problably more open minded. Disadvantage, regardless men or women I think you need influence from a man and a woman. David S.
I'm okay with gay adoption. If legislators would think of the children first, which seems the obvious thing to do in adoption considerations, I think they'd have to agree that being with a loving couple of Joes or Jills is way better than moving from home to home or remaining one day longer in an orphanage. I do agree that, ideally, children should have plenty of exposure to both genders, but they can get that in school, activities, church, friends' houses, and elsewhere. So, I'd vote to allow gay adoption, if anyone would let me.
Disadvantages? Really, the only disadvantage I see is probably a disguised advantage: that the child's growing experience will be different from the norm. I could see some tough times ahead for the kid in the short run, especially if he or she is being brought up in a smaller town, but in the long run, I'd think the lessons learned about acceptance of others' differences would be worth the bad times that come earlier.
In fact, if you plop a family with gay parents into a small town and tell the town to deal with it, enough good can come from that, long term, to make some gay parents want to move there and force the issue.
No, gays should not be able to adopt for at least another few decades. If we get to the point where there are way too many homeless children who need a place to stay, we can have another look at this possibility. The way I see it is that the more benefits and rights we give to homosexuals, the more they're going to think it's okay in our society to be homosexual, and that's NOT what we want to happen. On the contrary, we want to discourage homosexuality as much as possible because it can lead to the end of our species.
Yes! I think they should be able to adopt. If their in a commited relationship and a happy stable home they deserve to take in a child that needs the love that is not being provided. We all know that our child care services aren't the best and with all of the teenagers giving up their babies or kids getting taken out of unsafe homes of making it really crowded. If the only thing that is wrong with the couple is that their gay then people are just being prejudice and need to get over it. I mean foster kids get abused by appointed parents already and a gay couple might be less likely to do this with their daughter; if you know what I mean. Natasha
This subject is a subject that interests me I feel that this subject is usually very hush-hush, but I think it is time that we should be able to express different opinions, whether or not they agree with the subject. I personally think that gay couples should be able to adopt children. I don't personally think that being gay is a correct lifestlye, BUT that does not mean that I don't like the people. If a couple can provide and safe and wonderful life for a child then a couple should get a child no matter the sexual preference. A person is a person and a child is a child, if a couple can provide a lifestyle to love and respect people then whats the big deal if they like the same gender. What about the obese people out there. Should they be allowed to adopt? Should we really be splitting hairs when it comes to this matter. People feel that if a gay couple gets a child then they will put there beleives on the child. Well you could ask that qusetion to the people that are over weight. Maybe the overweight couple will instill there eating habbits on there kids. Does that seem far? So why would it seem right to question a gay couple. The point of adopting is to give a homeless child a home--bottom line.Your sexual liking has NO relation when it comes to raising a child. Rachel Kirby
No gay marriages should be illegal and stay illegal forever. there arent many states that it is legal in i think just massachusets, but i do know that certain counties, countries, and citys have legalized it. I dont think that certain states should ahve it and other dont, they should all be the same in the u.s. and it should be illegal. It also says in the bible that it is wrong.....if you need some more comments view mine b/c im covering the same topic.....good luck brit miller
I don't think it is fair to the children to be raised in that kind of household. I just graduated from high school last year and I know how cruel other kids can be. These kids with gay parents will get made fun of and they will probably suffer from it. An advantage of it is that these children will be more open minded and less judgemental because they know and love their parents for who they are. I think that gay couples will always want to have children but when it isn't physically possible for them to have children, then it is probably that way for a reason.
I believe that anyone should be allowed to adopt children as long as they are able to provide for the child, and they are going to give the child the love that they require and deserve. I don’t think the sexual orientation of the couple should be an issue so long as they are going to be good parents. The physical and emotional health of the child is the number one concern. I think that the adopting parents need to be aware of what the child is going to go through later in life as a result of having to gay parents. They should know how they are going to deal with all of the questions the child is going to have. David Floyd
I think that gays should be able to adopt a child if they can provide a good life for that child. I think that it really doesnt matter if you are raised by 2 people of the same sex as long as you are loved and taken care of. There are some disadvantages to being adopted by gays, which would be teasing at school and the lack of the mother/father experience. I dont think that living with gay parents will make you gay, I think that is how you are born. Jeff Still
I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my own weblog and was curious what all is needed to get set up? I'm assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I'm not very internet smart so I'm not 100% positive. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kudos
