Too much violence?

What are your views about violence in the media? Do you think it affects young people in our society? Do you think violence in the news is a good or a bad thing? Please explain. Do you think there is too much violence on TV, in movies, and video games? What would you change about violence in the media? Since violence apparently sells, is there any way to cut down on media violence without changing censorship laws? Would you support tougher censorship laws, or do you think such laws violate our rights?

Many studies have shown a likely connection between media violence and increased violent behavior in viewers. Please read some of this article for more information before you respond (reading just the first few paragraphs is probably enough):

I think violence in the media is being blown way out of proportion. Violence is part of the world as we now see it. I think it is a bad thing, but I don't think there is much we can do about it. As for the violence in TV and the movies, this is what sells, so producers make these types of shows or movies because this is what people want to see. I also don't think video games cause more violence, people are more violent now than they were is the past because the way children are now raised is different that before. There is much more violence tolerated in childhood than before, I think this is because people don't think it is hurting anything. I think the cencorship laws are fine for now. I think some people are just more violent than others because they weren't taught that you don't behave this way around other people.

I think that on caetain T.V. shows that yes there is to much violence. But if they are children then they shouldnt be watching that show in the first place. PArents need to watch what there kids watch and monitor what they are doing on the computer. They also need to teach them that what they do see on T.V. is fake half the time and be able to tell the difference betwwen right and wrong. Now what is on the news no one can do anything about. That is true life stories, they have to be prodcasted to the public, but if parents think it is viloent then dont let their child watch it. Lastly for video games there are ratings on them. Must ameicans can read and if parents allow their child to play an "V" for viloent or "T" for teen video game then thats on them. I know parents cant be around all the time and control evrything that their kids do, but they have to have some idea when their child is up in their room for hours everyday after school playing a game. Go see what they are doing take a interest and monitor waht goes on, it is part of being a parent.
I think that a law should be that if it is rated "T" then you should have to show a form of ID to buy it. Just like being carded at any gas station or bar. So no ten year old can go buy an adult murdering game. But mostly i leave it in the parents hands to deal with and control. If their so worried about it then watch what your child does.

Whats wrong with violence? I would change nothing about it and if it were taken away it would defenitly effect my censorship laws, so in otherwards i would not support tougher censorship laws. I think that some of the violence we see on t.v. connects very little to most of the school shootings and stuff like that. Those kids get picked on in class and wanted to do something about it. If you cut violence away from the t.v and newspapers no matter what violence will always be there, whether it come from your home or from a couple crazys down the street. I dont think it makes people insane, it just makes for good entertainment.

Violence in the media is not bad to me, its just some people can't handle it. The media and everything it does affects all people, young and old. Violence accures everyday and all main violent events are shown on the news to inform people. Some of these violent acts are warning signs. For example after the Columbine and Virgina Tech shooting people are paying closer attention to people that they are around. There is to much violence on TV, but in movies and video games, no. You can control what movie you watch or game you play, but you cant control what pops up as you flip through the channels. Since violence sells its really no way to cut it down. Tougher censorship laws would be helpful, but not helpful enough without the lawas going overboard.

Violence in the media is getting worse and worse every year, on the news, television shows, movies, on the radio, etc.... It's all either dirty language, fights, guns, and knives plus others.
Kids at young ages look at this as something that people around them and that they know do on a day-to-day basis. In some cases this is true, but in most it's just what they see or hear from the media. Even cartoons sometimes go further than they should with the above mentioned charatoristics of violence.
In the past when people would watch the news, they wouldn't show on the Air what they show now. Now it's "Normal" to see that kind of stuff. Some is worse than others, meaning that some of it is okay to show on the Air but there has got to be a limit within studios.
With the world being and becoming very violent, people that produce these movies, t.v. shows, video games, etc..should drw the line somewhere so that they can at least try to prevent this bad stuff from continuing.
It would have to take an act of God to stop all of this violence in the media without a cencorship law. So, in order for violence to change, there would almost have to be a law. It may violate few rights but not many by coming up with this law but I beleive that it is necesary.

HILLARY FEARS...VIOLENCE IN THE MEDIA DOES AFFECT THE CHILDREN/YOUTH OF THE WORLD TODAY.VIOLENCE IN THE NEWS IS A GOOD THING I THINK ,BECAUSE IT GIVES THE YOUTH AN EXAMPLE OF HOW NOT TO ACT IN THE WORLD TODAY.WHEN MOST TENS SEE VIOLENCE ON THE NEWS THAT SENDS A SIGN TO THEM(WELL ME),TO THINK BEFORE THEY ACT.MANY TEENS ARE RAPIDLY BEING LOCKED. TEEN S SEE THIS AND THINK TWICE..SAYING TO THEMSELVES( I CAN'T KET THIS BE ME). THERE IS AN AWFUL AMOUNT OF VIOLENCE ON T.V. I DO THINK THAT THERE IS ALOT OF VIOLENCE BEING POTRAYED THROUGHT OUT MOVIES AND VIDEO GAMES. THOSE IMAGES BEING DISPLAYED, ARE SENDING A MESSAGE TO TEENS THAT VIOLENCE IS OK BECAUSE IT'S IN THE MOVIES. IF I WAS IN CHARGEIF THE IOLENCE BEING DISPLAYED IN THE MEDIA I WOULD NOT HAVE SO MANY GUN SCENCES OR BLOODY BATTLES IN THE IMAGES/SCENCES. MANY PEOPLE IN THE MEDIA ARE GOING TO DO WHAT THEY WANT, AND YOU CAN'T MAKE UP THEIR MINDS. YOU CAN GIVE THEM THE CENSORSHIP LAWS,BUT THEY ARE GOING TO DO WHAT THEY WANT; AND PUT WHAT THEY THINKS SALES INTO PLAY. I WOULD SUPPORTTOUGHER CENSORSHIP LAWS,BECAUSE I THINK THEY WOULD CUT DOWN ON THE VIOLENCE IN THE MEDIA.

I think that violence in the media fine. I think that people are making such a huge deal about this stuff. If there is violence on tv, then dont let your damn kid watch it. I think violence in the news is acceptable because its the news, they wouldnt be doing there jobs if they didnt inlcude violence. I hate when people try to say that violence in video games or violence in music affects kids. Its totally bullcrap, there are tons of kids that have played halo and listened to eminem and they have turned out fine, but once people found a couple of kids who were doing those things and then decided to be violent towards other people they want to make a case of violence in the media being a terrible thing, when in fact the person was screwed up in the head to begin with.

I think violence should remain in our t.v shows, movies, and in video games. Violence sells, so why are people complaining. By there being so much violence everywhere these days, i do think its affecting the children in our society. As a child, you really don't have a understanding about killings in movies and t.v shows. I use to think that people were really getting killed. Now you have movies that show people hurting themselves.(Jackass)How do you think children look at this? They are going to feel like its okay to abuse yourself, but there is nothing you can really do about it because violence sells....

I do think that there is to much violence in the media. I think that they do it becasue it is what most intrest people. The stories about shootings and murders are always the lead stories becasue the most people want to hear about them. The War in Iraq is the leading story in the country and has been ever since 9/11. I think that since the news is so centered around violence other aspects of the media such as movies, TV shows, music, and videogames do the same. I don't feel it is necessary for these outlets to use vilonce so much but it does sell. Some of the best selling videogames are shooters, and action and war movies seem to be coming out every week. The violence we are allowed to see on network T.V. in the last 10 years is amazing. Now I think you can place stricter restrictions on who can see movies and but videogames, but until us as a nation become less dependent and interested in violence it is going to continue to grow.

I do believe that Media does play a role in today's society. A lot of children are becoming more and more aggressive by watching Movies that has heavy violence. Some video games as well. Like Halo? I absolutely hate that game. Not only it takes my boyfriends attention off of me, it is just icky and gory. I don't know how children can play these types of games. Yes, it could be fun going around killing people who are just in a game. It could promote wrong.
I do believe that doing these types of movies, and video games do sell. When a game that is rated "M", some children that are not of age to buy it, ask for it for birthdays, and christmas. Their parents buy it for them, then when their children turn out bad, they blame it on other things. I think that there should be tougher laws on being able to sell games like these. I am not sure what they should do, but something has to be done.

by the way, I couldn't go to the website.

Wherever you go there is going to be violence. Its a part of some people and its how some are going to think and want to deal with things. I dont think violence is the first answer but i do believe that sometimes people dont need to be talked to sometimes thats what they need a good ass whoopin and then they are in there place. The media takes it out of proportion though. They show violence so much in movies and Tv how could you expect not to have any. Everyone imagines this perfect world with no violence and but I just cant ever see that happening when we come from a past of violence.

I don't believe there is too much violence in the media. The only people that I think it affects is people who are mentally unbalanced and puts a bad name on other people. I believe that there has to be violence in the news because that is what ACTUALLY happening in the world. You can't be so "sheltered" that you think nothing bad is happening in the world or there is no violence. I believe tougher censorship laws would go again the 1st amendment of free speech. Plus, I think censorship laws are too strict already. Our society is because more and more easy to offend about little stuff.
