Favorite movie?

I believe movies are the best type of entertainment in society. There are many different types of movies, ranging from expensive to cheap, short to long, funny to sad, and even silent to sound films. What are your three favorite movies of all-time and who is your favorite director? What made you enjoy these movies and if you have an all-time favorite why so? What do you like most about your favorite director?

Thanks for your comments.

My three favorite movies are:
1. Star Wars
2. Patch Adams
3. To Sir With Love
I don't really have a favorite director, but I enjoy George Lucas Films. I enjoy movies that tell us stories of how people should act in the real world. Patch Adams told us doctors should respect patients wishes of humor and respect. To Sir With Love told us of a teacher facing tough times and responding in a honest and good, tough choice of staying to teach the kind of kids that really needed him, instead of following the money. Star Wars is just great entertainment.

My three favorite movies are:
1. The shawshank redemption
2. Eastern Promises
3. Almost Heroes
I'm not real sure if i have a favorite director, but if i had to choose, i would pick the coen brothers. I really like the shawshank redemption because it shows the development of all the main characters. I like Eastern Promises alot because of the story, I think the story is the best in a long time, plus Viggo Mortensen is a badass. I love Almost Heroes because Chris Farley (rest his soul) is the funniest actor of all time.

My favorite directors would have to be Quinton Terantino and Wes Anderson. I like all these movies for different reasons. Donnie Darko is just so funny; it has the best one liners. Pulp Fiction is just so well made and has so many stories going on at once. Requiem for a Dream is very depressing, but also very well made. I like Quinton Terantino because all of his movies are so strange. There is no one else out there that directs movies the way he does.

Fav director: Terrence Malick

Malick directed Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line, and The New World. Maybe one other I'm forgetting.

Fav movies:
1. The Thin Red LIne
2. Once Upon a Time in America
3. Love Actually

The Thin Red Line is one of the most compelling films I've seen both thematically and artistically. One of the themes is the expulsion from the garden of Eden; another is how man's conflicts with nature; another is the effects of war--how diverse they can be from person to person. Some people find this movie slow and too "talky," but that's Malick;s way. He likes to add layers of texture and tends to err on the side of overdoing, making his movies lush, rich, and rewarding for those who watch them over and over. Others get frustrated when themse or character development seem to over0ride plot. But for Malick a simply lienear plot without a bunch of extras would be dull.

More to come on this good question . . .

my favorite movies are:
1.) the bourne triology
2.) the notebook
3.) shawshank redemption

george lucas would have to be my favorite director even though the star wars movies arent in my top 3. when i do go back and watch the original star wars movies i am amazed at his directing skills with the technology he had.i enjoy the movies in my top 3 because i could watch any one of those movies at anytime and enjoy them. the bourne movies i would say is the best trilogy out there because all 3 movies are excellent in my opinion. they are by far my favorite movies period. they are all just full of action and they have a good story line that makes people stay involved in the movies. then the notebook is just that girly love story movie that just makes my heart melt. lastly the shawkshank redemption is just a good movie all around.

1. Facing the Giants
2. Remember the Titans
3. The Terminal
I like a good movie with a purpose to it. Now-a-days I don't really care to see a lot of movies because most of them, I would prefer not to see. But I have no problem with movies at all, it's a good way for people to put their talents and skills to use.
As for directors; I don't pay much attention to who the directors are in the movies I watch.
The reason I like the 3 movies listed above, is because they either teach a life lesson or just because it's funny and humerous. Even though 2 of those movies are football movies, don't think that's the only reason I've listed them, cause it's not. Facing the Giants is a great film that brings not only 1 person or family closer to God, but it brings the whole entire team closer. Whoever directed this movie did a fantastic job. There are life lessons to be learned and fun times to be had in this movie.
I like a good comedy here and there, and a scary movie every now and then is okay too.

I have tons of movies i love watching. My top three would have to be Alvin and the Chipmunks,We Own the Night, and Gone Baby Gone. There are tons more but those are the most recent one that i have seen that i truly enjoyed watching and recommended to others. I cant really tell you who my favorite director is because i dont really know many directors. I guess if you made me choose one i would say Spielberg, if he is even still directing. I never have really paid attenion to who directed the movie i just look to see what actors are in the film. I mostly stay toward comedy and suspense. I like a good on the eadge of your seat movie, that always keeps you guessing.

My three favorite movies are:

1.From Dusk till Dawn-
Come on! George Clooney is super hot in this movie! I actually saw this movie with my dad when I was younger and ever since then it has been one of my favorite movies. I like Quentin Tarantino movies!

2. Crash-
The message in this movie is so powerful. I love how all those people's lives connect to each other and the quote that Graham the African American cop says in the beginning,"It's the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In L.A., nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something." When This movie was over I walked away feeling enlightened.

3. Requiem For a Dream-
You either love it or you hate it! Darren Aronofsky is my favorite writer/ director! I love this movie because it forces you to look at things in a new way. Darren Aronofsky really makes you think creatively in movies. I love the angles of his films, the messages, the dramatic music, the darkness of their context, and the emotion you feel when you watch his dramatic scenes. You can actually feel what the characters are feeling.

Three favorite movies:
Robin Hood(Kevin Costner)
Fast and the Furious
Indian Jones Movies
I do not have a favorite director. I enjoy all kinds of movies. It is a great way to spend time with your family. My kids and I love the Disney movies. If I had to pick a best type of entertainment it would not be movies, it would be reading books. There is nothing better then curling up on the couch and reading a really good book in my option.
