Sports Today Vs. Sports Back Then

Are sports today exciting as they were back in the 90s? If not which ones? Why are they boring? Have our lives became so busy we don't have time for them anymore? Why? Are they just not fun to watch anymore? Is it because of the money? Fame? Advertising?

i personally dont have a definate answer for this. i think that back in the jordan era sports were more fun to watch in a certain aspect. players were playing the game because thats what they loved to do. Now all you hear about it where is the money. Its hard for me to follow sports lately because all you hear about are these big name guys wanting more money and complaining that they dont feel like they are appreciated like they should be, then later are wanting to be traded. It seems like every other day you hear bout some drama like this and it starts to get to you. these people cant settle for 8 million a year. they have to have 10 million or they want to be traded. These people are so caught up in the money that they have no respect for the game. I wish i could have a small 500k a year salary like most nfl bench warmers let along a five year 80 million dollars deal like some mlb players. One thing i will say about sports now is that they are more exciting to watch for the fact that they are coming up with new stuff all the time. Crazier dunks, huge homeruns, so on.

Some sports stay the same and some sports change which keeps them interesting. Football changes because their are diffrent styles of play. Baseball gets to be too much stratagie and becomes boring. Soccer has always been poeple kicking a ball. I think that contact and the amount of intensity keep the game interesting. Money is making games boring because the stars are to worried about money than how well they play.

First, i think it depends on what level of sports you are talking about, college or pro? Also each person has there own preference as to what sports they like and whether its collge or professional. Personally, i think sports are just as exciting as they have ever been. Ya some of the same athletes aren't competing anymore, but that comes with the games and there will always be new and younger athletes stepping up to the challenge. I understand why some people might not like them because of the amount of money involved with them or how much advertising they get, but i think if you're a person who loves sports, or a certain sport, you're not going to stop watching it no matter what.

I actually thought about this not too long ago. when I were younger, I liked to watch the games that were on TV and collect hundreds of baseball cards. I remember watching Micheal Jordan dominating the court for the Bulls giving them 6 national titles. I remember seeing sluggers like Ken Griffey Jr. and Frank Thomas blow the competition away. That was during a time when we all had a few less worries.
Now, I have far more things to spend my time thinking about and much less time on who is having a good season this year. I just don't have the time anymore to pay attention to sports. They also don't carry with them the same excitment as they did when I was a kid. I may have just become tuned out on this sort of thing. I do think tha one reason that people could become less inticed be sports is due tothe snowballing controversies that some of the players are creating. They are not portraying the same image that they did ten years ago.
I hope though that parents don't get too turned off by some of the things that these players are doing because sports are a good learning enviornment for kids. They can learn patiece and dicipline along with working well with others. I think that some things will need to be changed in the world of sports to ensure that people will continue to watch.

I think some sports are exciting today, while others are decreasing in excitement. For instance, professional basketball has taken a major turn in excitment since Jordan retired. Fewer people watch the playoffs or even any basketball at all than they did when Jordan was around - he was a legend who made the game exciting. Now professional football and baseball are taking off once again. Both sports are HUGE now - they even have fantasy teams. The sad part is, both are hardly watched for the love of the game - they are mostly watched to see how a person's fantasy players are doing. Nonetheless these 2 sports are very exciting and very big right now. However, I do believe that with athletes egos, money issues, and on/off the field issues - these sports will decline, much like basketball. Players in every sport need to be human beings and play for the love of the game, not the money or fame, otherwise people will turn their backs on watching them - and then the money and fame won't even be there. Athletes need to grow up and be respectable mentors to everyone around them.

I don't have a whole lot to say on this really, as I stopped watching sports a while ago.

But, to a point, I do think that sports back in the 90's were more fun to watch. Jordan, Shaq, Malone...I'm sure there's a lot more but those are some of the ones I liked the best, those players I just liked a lot more than some current players now. As for why they are boring...I don't have a real definitive answer. I suppose just that, how the players play today, isn't like what it was in the 90's, if that makes sense.

And I do think that people are becoming more and more busy in some respects. People going to college, while they certainly do have time to watch sports occasionally, they will want to dedicate their time to studying as well, so they can go through college and get a degree and do what they want to. And doing what they want to will undoubtedly be using up a lot of their time as well.

Also, and this is only in my opinion, that sports just don't have the "glory" that they once had. It just doesn't seem to have the "jazz" that it did in the 90's.

I keep saying the 90's because that's the only sports era I'm familiar with in some respects.

I think that it is very hard to compare sports now and back then. Back then people had to work harder for what they got. They did not have the luxuries as we do now. Also they did not have the money flashed in their face as they do now. Back then i think that people played the game because they loved it. But know people have more to look foward to if they do well in a sport. Back then teams kept people around because they were a good clubhouse member. Now you hear a lot of people saying its just a business, thats not right.

i think sports today are not as exiting as the years before. today athletes play for money not for the love of the sport. in todays day athletes makes millions of dollars just to sign a conteact. if one team offer less money to an athlete, they reject that team and go look for another tream who will pay more money. as in the years before, athletes play for the love of the sport. money is not a big deal therefore there are more competition. when you play a spot you like you will do your best, but if you only doing it for money, you know you getting pay and you won't try as hard as you will if you are playing it for fun.

I really think that the sports back in the 90's were a lot more exciting then they are now. For one example, I think that back then professional atheletes played for the love of the game and not all for the money. It seems as if today's atheletes are not playing for a pupose but more for a dollar. In fact the last olympic games the United States men's basketball finshed very low when they should have finished first. In the 90's when Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman played with the Chicago Bulls they were a team. When Jordan went to the Olympics, his team won gold because they played for the love of the game and not just for fame and money. I think that we pay professional atheletes way too much money nad that effects how they play the game. I find that I prefer watching college sports over professional sports now, because there is more heart. I blame that on the idolistic nature that we give professional atheltes now.

There are still die hard, loyal fans in the world today. It seems there really isn't as much hype for the athletes of today. The era of Michael Jordan, Ryan Sandberg, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGuire are part of history. For baseball, I think the fans are still involved. I used to watch NBA basketball, and NFL football, but I don't anymore. I think it is because I have other important things to do, other than sit on the couch for a few hours watching the games. I think people can relate, and miss watching the games. It doesn't seem to be a necessity, plus the Xbox and PS3 are taking priority over watching the real thing.
I think that some of the athletes are there for the money, but the fans are with them.

I dont think sports are as enjoyable as they used to. Today you always seeing sports stars showing off and getting into fights. Back in the day very few got into fights. I used to love to watch the bulls. I was hooked on them. But after they all broke up i lost interest. After seeing sports on tv and after every pass or ok play in football someone has to celebrate or show some sort of emotion to the crowd. i just wanna scream at them " WHO CARES!!!" "YOU DIDNT MAKE HISTORY" "SHUT THE F*** UP!" but i cant so...i dunno maybe i'm alone on this one....
