Every day animals are put into a humane society or become stray because of an owner abusing their pet. Cats and dogs are heard of the most by being a number one pet for many. When an animal gets abused the owner may go too far and kill their pet. Do you think it is right to let cats and dogs stay with someone and not get treated right? Is it fair to let a dog stay in a cage or any other animal get put to sleep for no real reason? If you have comments on any other aspects of the animal abuse issue, please let me hear those, too.

Treat others how you would want to be treated, I think this statement holds very true to animals too. Animals can feel pain, and they can also have psychological damage from it. Dog's may attack people more frequently if abused or cats may spray or claw Everthing within there reach, just examples of how animals can be forever changed due to lack of respect and abuse. I beleive it's very hateful and wrong. Amy Marx
I firmly believe that animals(pets)should be treated like another human being in a way. They need love and affection, food, and good shelter. If an owner abuses an animal either physically or by giving them a lack of their needs then that animal deserves to be taken out of there and treated right by another owner. When it comes to the humane society putting pets to sleep for no real reason (except the fact that no one has bought them in a certain quota of time) and leaving them locked up, I do get very upset. These animals are good animals and they deserve to live, be loved, and to have a home. But unfortunately, humane societies only have so much space and volunteers to keep all the pets that need homes, and some pets have to be put down for that reason. It's tragic, but I guess it's our way of dealing with the ones not wanted. Animals deserve to be treated better, they deserve love.
Nigel Knop.
Putting an animal into a humane society is the best place to be besides a home that the people will love and respect an animal. The people at the humane society will provide them with as much love and respect they can muster. The last thing they want to do is put an animal to sleep for no apprarent reason other than the animal is unadoptable. But it does happen and I wish there was a better way of handling the over population of the shelter. They do the best they can with what resources they have to provide the best conditions for the health and well being of the animals in their care. If keeping them in a cage keeps them from spreading disease or hurting themselves or other animals, so be it. The animals don't have sense enough to know when they can hurt another animal. We do though and so therefore it is our job to make sure all the animals are kept safe and healthy. Leaving an animal to fend for themselves as a stray is abusive and the animal deserves better than that. Anyone who abuses an animal in any form should not have that animal or any other. They obviously have some severe issues and are not capable of handling the responsiblilities of caring and loving an animal. Linda Francis
Animal abuse is very wrong. As a lover of animals, I see shows like animal precinct and have seen how awful some people treat their pets. To me these people should receive very harsh penalties for abusing a pet. Though I see how euthanizing animals is very wrong, it sometimes is the only choice a shelter has. Without more donations to these facilities to pay for food and shelters for animals these places have to euthanize some of them. I believe that we should make it a law that everything must be tried, whether its moving a pet to another shelter or finding a foster home, before a pet is euthanized.

I don’t feel that animal abuse is defined adequately by the law. I believe that the law should be more specific. In my eyes, the law does not give an outline of the crimes and their punishments.
Last year my friend Cody adopted a dog came from a home that had 50 abused animals. The dog was blind in one eye and partially blind in the other because malnutrition. He also has a verity of diseases because of the amount of feces that the animals were living in. The person that was in position of the 50 animals was never charged with animal abuse.
I think that this crime should require jail time as well as a huge fine. I feel that the person that is convicted of animal abuse should have to pay for the medical bills for the animal. As well as that they should never be allowed to own a pet again.

This is one of those issues I know little about but still want to throw in my 2 cents. I am embarrassed and ashamed about how people treat animals, and yet I do nothing about it. I don't even find out what it is exactly I am so repulsed by. I just don't have the time, I guess. I think it's beneath humans to treat other creatures as we do just because we CAN. We should strive to be like our creator or like His son and not harm Earth's creatures. Using them for testing as we do is a disgrace. Maybe decades from now people will finally recognize that animals can be our friends and that we don't have to control them or dominate them or mistreat them but just let them walk the Earth in peace.
God told people that we have dominion over the creatures of the Earth. For Christ's sake, I can't believe we translated that to mean we can do whatever we want with them. We're supposed to take care of them! Man has dominion over his wife, and he TAKES CARE of her; man has dominion over animals, and he breeds them for mass consumption and laboratory testing. There's something seriously wrong there.

I have to respectfully disagree with Mr. Horath. How does he know what God meant when He gave us dominion over the other creatures of the Earth? I know that Jesus himself was not a vegetarian, which tells me that it's okay for humans to use animals for the betterment of human life. No, we should not torture animals for no reason, but if we can improve human life by breeding, eating, and experimenting on animals, that is most likely what God intended when He gave us dominion over them. If people start crying about animal rights, what comes next? Plant rights? Rock rights? I think animal rights activists need to understand that humans have gained their status as #1 by being the strongest and smartest of all the species. That's what life on earth comes down to, survival of the fittest, and we have proved ourselves to be the most fit being for the planet.

I believe that animal abuse is wrong, and that people should take care of their animals or even take care of the ones that you see roaming aroung eveyday. Animal abuse is wrong, and it needs to be stopped. There should be more people reporting animal abuse , and maybe it might stop, and there won't be as much abuse, or killing animals eveyday.

I don't think it is right for anybody to abuse their pets. I could never see myself mistreating my dog. I don't understand why some people who do abuse their own pets have them in the first place. I honestly think that they might have the pet just for the sole purpose of abusing it because they have nothing else in there life or occupy there time with or nobody who care for them or that they care for. Basically, i don't you should have a pet unless you are willing to give it the right amount of attention and care as they do for you.

I think animals are property, but they are living property and therefore deserve a certain level of respect just for being alive. You can't kick a dog like you can kick a car. The dog is aware of being kicked, while non-living property is not. I don't think a person who will mistreat an animal should be allowed to have one. It's simple, if you can't respect something you don't deserve it. I don't think putting an animal in a cage is a big deal, but it can become a big deal if left in the cage for extended periods of time.

Since i live and work on a livestock farm i think that there is no reason for animal abuse. They do nothing worng that you have to become violent with them. They do not know any better, and there is nothing that they could do that would make someone hurt them. Also when people do not feed their animals that is just wrong, when i work my motto is they get there meal before i get mine.

I am against animal abuse. Now I dont like cats at all but I love dogs. I dont see any reason why someone would want to abuse them. The animal should get taken away from them and given to a family that will care for that pet.
Josh Kaufman
I feel no animal should be live with someone who abuses or neglects them everyday. I think it does irrevocable damage, especially in dogs; they become violent, eventually attacking innocent people. I think this is wrong and mean to allow such abuse to animals.

Reports of abused animals come in everyday to animal control. Recently, there was a report of an abandoned home in the area that was full of abandon pets. By the time they were discovered the animals were deceased. The authorities were on the trail of the owners, to press cruelty charges and negligence. This is just locally, however. charges and violations are reported nationwide. There is an entire television series on animal planet that is dedicated to these reports. If there is enough reports to make it on T.V., there is a lot not seen. Humans seem to more negligent with pets than anything else. This is related more to the fact that pets are purchased for the comfort factor. Pets aren't purchased so the owner can have more responsabilities; this isn't desired, but is the case. We want less responsabilities and more comfort. Humans don't foresee that havig a pet requires a lot of responsability. Even dog owners neglect to train their dogs, which can cause harm to the dog and possibly the owner. Pets consume a great amount of time and finances from the owner, in order to train and take care of the pets. Not all owners are willing to offer the necessary amount of time or finances to take care of the animals. The problem is that the owners don't realize this until it is to late. Some owners are more negligent than this, pitbulls are often acquired strictly for dogfighting. This is pet cruelty at an extreme. They train the dogs to fight by: starving them, putting them through cruel beatings, and ravenous conditions. This has been a problem in certain areas of California. It has gotten so far out of hand that pitbulls have become illegal to own in some areas.
The authorities do take abused pets from individuals. They are rescued and put in homes that are willing to take care of them. This process requires a large amount of time. The dogs must be retrained and reconditioned. This is harder and more time consuming than it sounds. Everything that the dog has learned is wrong and must be learned the right way. This is so hard, because the dog will want to retort to its old ways. I believe that some people that rescue dogs are unprepared for this process.
Unfortunately, some animals are going to be put to sleep. This is why the humane society spays and neuters the animals that are adopted. It is a subject of over population. If we can reduce the over population, animals wouldn't have to be put to sleep. There are other countries that haven't controlled this very well and are paying dearly now. Mexico has had a stray dog problem for years, and in the wild the dogs acquire diseases. The diseased dogs now pose a threat. To avoid the spreading of diseases, they are being killed; they don't use the same more pleasant methods we do.
Australia has had a feral cat problem for years. They round up the cats and deal with them in a more humane way than Mexico. Thanfully for our methods, we haven't faced these issues that Australia and Mexico now face. Animal abuse is an issue we will continue to tackle, but we are handling it in the best means possible.

I think anything that involves hurting something else should be banned. Its ironic that people do all this stuff to animals and they dont want it to happen to them. There is no justification to cause pain to any kind of animal. Anyone one that hurts animals should be severely punished.
