Who Gets the Giving

Do you think that Americans and the U.S. government give too much to other countries in their disasters than they give to disaster victims in the United States?

Do you think it is right that the U.S. gave so much to Haiti when there is still a lot of recovery left for the Katrina disaster?

Did you give to Haiti relief or Katrina relief? If so, which one and why? If you didn’t give, why didn’t you? If you could give, which one would you give to and why?

I think its good that we helped out with the Haiti disaster. But would they have done the same for us. When 911 happened no other countries came and helped us clean up the wreckage. I do think that we should help other countries when they have a disaster, to a certain extent. I believe we should just provide food and water not donate millions and millions of dollars. I did donate a few dollars to the Haiti relief, mainly because I was forced to. I think the US government should stay out of other peoples business, and let them fix their own problems.

I do believe that we give more to other countries then to ourselves. I feel that it is because we are worried that if we don't help then they won't help us. I feel that it is wrong that we help other countries more then we help the states in our own country. I didn't give any money to either of them because I didn't have any money. But if i did, i would've given money to both of them because when people are struggling we should help because it is the right thing to do. I feel that no matter what country is in need that we should help them because they are human beings too and everything comes back to either haunt you or help you. But I do think that we shouldn't let it stop us from giving help to people in our own country. If we can help out another country so much then we should be able to people in our own country just as much.

I just thank God that we have the ability to help other countries. If we would not have gone to Haiti's relief, think about what would have happened over there. The government was completely gone. They would have been forced to turn on each other to survive. The United States is nosy, but when it comes to helping after a disasters, it is a good thing. I did give to both Haiti and Katrina. I agree with Justine that if we have the ability to help we should. Pay it forward and good will come back to you.

I think that it was good that we helped out Haiti but I don't think it's fair that when 911 happened or the Katrina disaster happened that we didn't have the help like that. I do believe that the U.S. government is giving too much to other countries when we have plenty to help with our disasters as well. We try so hard to help other countries but we don't get any of it in return. I didn't give to Haiti relief or Katrina relief, but if I had, it wouldn't have been a lot. I don't think we should have to donate millions of dollars to other countries. Sure it's nice, but it's not our problem. We have to deal with our disasters without the help, why should we help out that much and get nothing in return.

No, I don't think the government gives to much to other countries. We are a giving and caring country, so therefore we have to help others out. I am very glad that the US gave to Haiti, those people have nothing at all now. They needed help and we are doing what we can, and I think that's great. Katrina was kind of ignored which does make me very mad but we didn't have a very caring president then, i guess. But, Haiti is now the ones in trouble so they need the help. I did not give to either relief. I wanted to more than anything but money is tight and it has been for awhile. If i could give I would have helped both out. When you give you will get back.

No, I don't believe we help other countries more than our own. That is a good thing that we want to help people that are in need. No, I didn't give to the relief funds, because I didn't have it to give. If I was able to give I would have given something to both of them. What happened to both places was a terrible thing and if we are able to help then we should. Just because other countries didn't help us with 911 or Katrina, we shouldn't be like them.

I do think that we give too much to other countries in their disasters compared to our own. Every time you hear about a disaster some where on the news you hear about people donating money. At the stores you go to you see posters for donating money for that disaster. America is in debt, why should we give other countries money that we don’t even have? If another country has a disaster, that just sucks for them but we shouldn’t help them. We have to take care of ourselves before we can take care of problems that another country has. Nobody helps us like we help them. I think other countries expect our help because they know we always help others in need. I don’t think we should help any more countries with money until we are out of debt.

Yes we give too much to other countries! When we are in need are the other countries going to remember that we helped them out? Our country has the most freedom and more money than the other countries so I think that we would be left to fend for ourselves if a disaster was to come about in our country. We are in so much debt because we help out so many other countries, maybe if we took a look at our own contry for a minute and took the time and money they put into other countries we wouldnt have so many homeless people on the streets and our country could possibly be a bit stronger.

I think that the government does give some countries too much money. I have heard that in some countries the money ends up in the pocket of the government officials and not in the hands of the people that really need it. We need to take care of our own people first. We send billions of dollars to other countries and we have things we could mix here is this country for that much.
I don't give to most relief efforts. I do give to one run by my church. I feel confident that the supplies actually get to the people in need.

I think it's good we help other countries with their disasters but I also think it's more important to help America first. Sounds selfish but if we can't help each other here first how do you think the people in Katrina feel that Haiti are getting so much more than them. I'm sure they understand everyone needs help but why would you not help America be strong again before we take on the world.

I always agreed with this. Sometimes i think the U.S. is worried about helping others when were are in need too. OUr economy is not the best right now, and we are in a war. This all cost a ton of money but will still aid to others even though we are in debt. It is good to help out but I think with what our country is going through we should make our selfs a first priority. It was right for what we did for Haiti but was it necesarry when we were in need? We should have taken care of all of katrina first because those are our people of the United States.

I think it's good american care about other places but i don't think they would of give us anything, just thinking when 911 happen no countries came to help us. Maybe we need to stop being so nice and let them be. I guess doing good things and helping people out is the way to be even if they don't help you. Kasha Topps

The U.S. is the most powerful nation in the world and I think that trying to help other countries when they have disasters is a good way to use that power. Now I am not so sure about donating millions of dollars but at least they are trying to help. A lot of the time the worst thing you can do in any situation is do nothing at all.

I think that it is hard to say our country is going through a hard time. I do think that it is good that our country helps other countries. We do have more than lots of countries. I think that maybe we should help, but help a little less.

I have no idea, I am so politically ignorant about things like this. I do know with the help of Lois that yes we give too much to other countries and a lot of that money doesn't even get to the countries people, it goes in the governments pockets.

Yes I strongly agree that our government gives way to much money to other countries when they are in need. When we do this, and we have a natural disaster those countries do not have enough money to help us out.
I did not give any money to either relief. The people in the south region where Katrina hit had enough time to leave so why benefit their stupidity with my hard earned money.
