Go To The Big Leagues, Or Go To College

Do you think that there should be a rule that states that all baseball players need to go to college for at least one year before they are drafted and move on to professional baseball? For Example: The NCAA has put in a rule for basketball and football that the athletes must be in school for a year before they are drafted and go on to professional basketball or football. Do you think the same thing should be implemented for baseball?

I don't know much about sports, but I do think that it should be inforced that baseball players go to college for atleast a year. I believe this because if they are injured they will need something to fall back on. If they don't have anything to fall back on then if or when they get an injury they will have no way to get some income.

Yes I think that everyone needs a college degree. No matter what sport you go into you should have more schooling than just high school. Some high school students are not mature enough to move up so quickly. It can take their lives in a new direction and then it could get out of control if the person is not mature enough for the big leagues.

well yes if it helps the players but if it does not help the players or the team and it is a wast of time then no i would say.

I personally think that going to college is very important for everyone to do. I think since the NCAA has already set the rule for basketball and football players to be in college for at least a year before they enter the pros then it should be the same for baseball players. They are no different or more special then the rest of the sports so why should they be exempt from this rule too. I personally think that athletes should try to go to school as long as they can just encase something like a injury happens to them while in the pros and they can't play anymore. This way they can still make money and support them self.

I think that college is a choice that is not for some people. Everyone should go, but some careers, like certain trades, don't require college. Someone could be a terrible student, but an excellent athlete and why should they waste a year in college when they could be making good money doing what they love? That should be a choice they make with the help of their parents.

Yes, it's always better to have a college degree. They will also have something to fall back on after ball.

I think no because if you got a talent and you're good enough why not go to the pros school isn't for everybody period.

I think that all athletes that are planning to go pro some day should have at least one year of college. Or when they are in the pros they should attend online college classes so they at least have some kind of degree.

At first, I was going to say no there shouldn't be a rule. But when i kept reading I saw that basketball and football had this rule, so yes baseball should have it too. That's only fair. On the real, none of them should have those rule though. If you are good enough to go straigh to the pros out of high school you should get that chance. It may not be there after you do school for a year. You can go to college at any part of your life after high school. I'm not a pro athlete could find a way to make this happen.

I think that it is a great idea. For one thing, someone just out of high school is only 18 or 19 years old at the most. They may think that they will play pro sports for years, make a ton of money, retire from sports and become a highly paid sports announcer. The odds of that happening are not very good. I think it would serve them better to have an associates' degree than just one year of school. That way if things don't work out in sports, they have something more substantial to fall back on.

No they should not make a law stating that baseball players should go to college for one year. They should make it a law stating they should get a college education in any subject while they are playing in the big leagues just in case of an injury or some other falling out. There should be some sort of a back up plan or a money management plan lol. This should be implemented for all atheletes no matter the sport.

I think it could be a good idea for them to be in college for a year before they are drafted in a way. Just because you become a professional baseball player or whatever doesn’t mean your going to stay one for a long time. You could be one for a few years and get injured to where you can’t play anymore. If that happens, you would already have 1 year of college done and you could continue from there. Maybe you could be in the sport for a long time and quit with enough money to spend the rest of your life. In that case, that 1 year of college wouldn’t really matter. It is only 1 year of college, I don’t think that would kill anyone.

Yes, it is okay to have them go to college for at least one year. Players should have something else under their belts beside sports. They will need something to fall back on if, they where to get hurt playing a sport.

Yeah, why isn't it if basketball and football are? Doesn't really make sense to me. But if you are going to do that why not make it two years? I guess it should be up to the player but I just don't know why you wouldn't go to college and get an education and play at the same time. Then go to the majors and when you are old and can't play anymore you have something to fall back on. Something that will never leave because of age but will allow it to be used whenever you need it.

I not really a big sports fan but yeah it should be inforced for every sport. Why single them out?

I have never learned the rules of baseball I dont even know how the game goes or anything. But I agree that the pro. Sport players should have some sort of education because you dont only get education to get a degree. You get education to speak, act and learn how to act in public and out in real life.

For some people love baseball that it is all they know. Going to college for at least a year would be a good thing for some but for some who take that year college and aren't able to play at that college then they may not be able to stay as sharp. So I think that if a baseball player is practically being forced to go to college for a year then they should almost have a guaranteed spot on the college's baseball team.

Yes I think that it should be made a rule that all professional sports players should go to college for at least one year. If they don't go to college and end up getting hurt and can't play the sport anymore having one or two years of college will be very helpfull in finding a job or going back to college.

I think baseball should still be able to go straight out of high school. Just because the way the sport is, when you sign that contract it is gurenteed money no matter if you get hurt and can't play. So in a way you have a back up plan even if things don't work out. Most player out of high school start in the farm league so they have time to develope. Football is also 3 years out of highschool. Either you go to college for three years or if you want to try out you have to be out of h.s. for 3 years.

I think all athletes should be required to go to school. if they get hurt and can't do sports anymore then what are they going to do? They need to have some education to fall back on and maybe build off of.

I agree with one year minimum of college before going to the big leagues. WIth the exception of those in poverty who have scarce means to fund their schooling.
