Recycling: How will it change our world?

I am studying to become a landscape designer and through my studies and work experiences, I have come to respect nature more and more. Our society as a whole has become so wasteful that it is getting harder and harder to find space for landfills. Last year I went on a field trip to the St Louis Botanical Gardens. After a day of seeing beautiful flowers and themed gardens we drove past a large what I thought was a natural hill. Upon asking the teacher that was with us on the trip what it was I found out that it was a landfill. This landfill was massive and took us miles to pass. It struck me as so sad that land was being used to cover up trash. So my question for you is: If recycling and water conservation were to become mandatory, what effect would it have on your daily life? Do you feel that making the committment to recycle as a nation would cost us money or save it? Do you even care about recycling? If not, why not? (Be honest!)

I will admit that sometimes I do not recycle when I should, but I do recycle. I have been doing it for awhile now and I mostly do it out of habbit. Sometimes I don't care about recycling that much, but I do think that it is wrong that people don't recycle that much. I feel that we should do more to protect the earth because it is what we were put on earth to do. I just hope that the damage that we have done is reversable or at least that we will be able to act quickly to find out away of making it possible to stop all the landfills from being so full.

Most people today are finally realizing the importance of reduce, re-use, recycle. A lot of towns are offering to pick up a person's recycling with their garbage or offering a place for them to bring it and dump it for free. It would be nice if it was mandatory, but some people are just too lazy to separate their garbage.

I would love if recycling become a part of everyone's life. My roommates and I recycle and its so easy its just like throwing garbage away but putting it into a different bag. I wish everyone knew how easy recycling really was then maybe it would be everyone doing it. I don't think it cost me money at all. I mean yes I do have to drive to drop it off but if everyone starting doing it then there would be recycling pick ups just like trash pickups. I do care about recycling. I think every little bit counts and if one person can do it so can everyone else.

I also think that our world is so wasteful. They don't make trashcans for nothing. I don't really think I would have a problem recycling and conserving water. I already freak out about elecetricity. I feel like it would save us money and time. Yes, I care about recycling. Not as much as I should, but it does sound like a good idea.

Recycling is an awsome thing to do but somethings about it are not so good. Government agencies will tax us higher because it will take more energy to recycle meterial then to just toss it in a landfill. From my experiences of seeing multiple landfills is that when they r done filling the land they usually make that property into a park with a sledding hill or some other recreational area. The cost of recycling will increase but for the better of our natural world. We will not be so dependent on digging deep for that extra peice of coal or chopping down that faraway forrest. It will be good to go green but the companies will have to lower costs and the government will have to lower taxes.

I have actually been to the St. Louis Botanical Gardens and I think I know what landfill you are talking about. It was huge and got that big in less than 20 years. It would be weird for me to recycle in my daily life. I am always busy being a full time student and having a job. That would be just one more thing I’d have to worry about. I think that it would save us lots of money and make the world a better place. I don’t care about recycling and never think about doing it. I’m not a passionate person so I don’t care about a lot of things like recycling. It would suck driving to beautiful places and seeing landfills everywhere but the world is going to end one day and were all going to die anyways. I’m glad you care so much about recycling and want to make a difference though.

I don't think it would hurt if we were made to recycle. Recycling is a good thing for us. I do recycle my garbage; it is not hard the garbage company picks it. It is not hard to put recycled goods into a different can. We should think about recycling more to help save the country in the long run.

Are world is very wasteful!! When I lived in urban recycling was free, they came to our house once a week or once every two weeks to pick it up. Now I live in Champaign and you have to pay for it, it’s not that we don’t have the money. It’s just why should we have to pay for recycling and trash pickup? I know that if it was free, a lot of people would do it and help out without even thinking about it.

i don't really ever think about recycling...but i do think it would be a good idea if everyone would start to do it. it really wouldn't be a hard task, all you'd have to do is separate it, and once you get in the rutine of doing that, you won't realize you're doing it. i think that it should be for free though, then i don't have a doubt that everyone would start to recycle.

I don't ever think about recycling when i throw things away. I do think that it would be a good idea if we did. I don't think it would matter if we were made to. I've noticed a whole bunch of trash over by walmart and 150. Paper bags everywhere. It's sad to know how much our world is being wasteful. It would't have any kind of effect on my daily life I don't think. I also do think that it would help out our nation and would save money as well.

I need to recycle more often then I do. Im one of those people who says its ok to throw it out of the window its biodegradable. Which is wrong. Recycling could improve the world and mainly the U.S. We Americans are terrible recyclers and need to keep this country clean. If we plan on living on this planet we need to respect it and take care of it.

i think manditory recycling would be a fantastic idea. i have also seen a land fill that was absolutly out of controle and took up a couple square miles. when i saw that it worried me alot. another thing i think we need to really start working on is biodegradeable plastics.

i do not recycle but i do know that it is very important to do. It just takes so much time to seprate things and i am so busy doing so many things i have no time for it. It would make the world a better looking place for sure, but not everyone has the time for it. If someone could invent something to separate all the trash as they trow it away it might make more people recycle. But i think most people think that it takes too much of their time and energy. We all should recycle but there needs to be a quicker and easier way of recycling at home that is time efficent.

I will say I don't recycle but I do care about it. I just don't think about it. If it were mandatory for us to recycle I would obviously do it. I think in the end it would save us money, but like anything else it would probably start off slow and after a few years it would take off. Recycling would help the generations to come, and we should think about things like that. We want our kids to have a good life and their kids to even have a future so we should help as much as we can now.

I have no idea what this is about, I personally do not care about recycling what so ever. I am a smoker and regardless of where ever I smoke I throw my cigaret around. Ive never had the time to sit down and think about recycling, and I am not a nature person so thats all I knew!

I think that commitment would be very helpful and do our country good. It is just a matter of doing it and getting people to do it. Some people just throw everything in one bin. In their own house how can you stop them from doing that. I know that i had to pay for recycling in our house but same places are free, if they were all free i think that it would save money but i do not see this happening anytime soon.

I do recycle some of the time but not as much as I probably should. I think it would help alot if everyone started recycling more but their are always gonna be people who are just too lazy to do it or just don't care very much. Mandatory would recycling would be great for the planet.

I do not normally recycle. But, I think that I need to start because of what I have heard on t.v and read in the newspapers about how polluted out planet is becoming. My family and I used to recycle our pop cans at our house but we have stopped doing it for some reason. I think that more people need to start recycling or we need to find some other ways of getting rid of our trash. We need to stop using landfills and maybe have like a place where people can go and burn the trash that they have that can be burned or find some ways that we can reuse the trash for link compost or like an alternative fuel.

Recycling is a wonderful thing and something I as a parent want to instill into my children. I'm not perfect at it but I am concious of the harm it causes and try my best to recycle.

I think that recycling is a good thing. I don't recycle as much as I should. It is not that I don't want to I just don't think about it.

I think recycling would save us money. I hope water conservation does not become mandatory, I like to take long hot steamy showerz. I would totally make a commitment to a globally agreeable recycling order though.
