Should there be a laws about dog and cat breeding and spaying/neutering?

Every year millions of dogs, puppies, cats and kittens are euthanized simply because there is no home for them. Every hour in the U.S., more than 2,000 dogs and 3,500 cats are born, compared to 415 humans. Many of these wonderful animals are euthanized. It is estimated that at least 61% of dogs and 75% of cats in shelters will be euthanized. Most of illfated pets are do to unplanned litters and bad breeders. So should there be laws about getting your pets spayed/neutered? And should there be laws about breeding dogs and cats as well? Such as people that want to become breeders are required to go through the AKC (American Kennel Club) to get a special breeders license? And for those that don't want to have a breeding animal, just a pet, are required to get there pet spayed/neutered before their pet reaches a certain age?

It is absolutely depressing that animals have to be euthanized. Excessive breeding is a problem, but there really is no way to find every animal and tag it to identify whether or not the animal has been fixed. I am an animal lover and it really sucks to have so many innocent animals put down.

I am not an animal person, therefore I dont really have an opinion on whether or not there should be a law about breeding and spayins/neutering. But a lot of people love cats and dogs, so why take away part of people happiness.

yes i strongly agree that there should be laws requiring that animals be spayed or neutered when they reach a certain age .I think the gov. should pay for it too.If the gov paid for it i think people would be more apt to follow the law.If you are a breeder then you would be permitted to breed but they should be monitored so they dont overbreed

I agree with having animals spayed or neutered, but only after they have had a litter. Medically it is better for the female to have a litter, it prevents cancer in future years.

I do not however believe that a breeder should have to go through the American Kennel Club. There are many great clubs out there that actually do a better job than AKC does, CKC, AHC, APRI, and UKC to name a few.

We definitely need to get control of our animal population and stop euthanization.

There should most certainly be laws about spaying and neutering cats and dogs. The population will get out of control because of owners not knowing or caring about improper breeding. All owners should have to go through the AKC to get a special breeders license. That way nobody could breed unless they had the license and thats one way to stop the over population. The other is to have cats and dogs spayed and neutered so cats and dogs can't breed without their owners knowing. If these two things are done, it will dramatically decrease animals being born and then there won't have to be euthanization.

I feel it should be up to the owner. Stray animals in a shelter, should be spayed. If you can afford to take on a responsabilty by owning a dog or cat, and can be a responsable owner the choice is yours.

I think that there should be laws for spaying/neutering you pets. It is unfair to the animals if they are killed just because there isnt any room for them. I feel inorder to breed animals you have to have lienese and they have to follow rules and guidelines. And for having pets they should be spayed/neutered and if they arent then they should have to keep the all the babies

It's so sad that animals have to be euthanized simply because they don't have a place to live. I think that it wouldn't be a problem, at leats not enough to kill, to breed but there's always a limit to something. I think that there should be laws that say that it's illegal to euthanize animals because there always someone that want to adopt an animal. Imagine if they that would happen with humans, they don't get euthanized simply because they are homeless, right? So why do it to animals just because they can't talk. People should understand that animals have feelings.

I believe that there should not be laws against it, but rather that each organization should be required to inforce their own rules and regualtions. If you go to a humane society or a rescue shelter they usually have requirements already in place. I don't think that it should be a law that requires you to spay or neuter your cat/dog.

If only breeders are allowed to breed then that would eliminate all of the "muts" and honestly muts tend to be the best dogs. Breeding often causes genetic defects and other undesirable traits.

Breeding doesn't seem to be a relatively large issue. Some governments though have talked about having all animals spay/neutered when they are of certain age. I think that is impossible to track every last animal down and tag them to make sure they get neutered. I believe it should be up to the owner of the pet to decide that. If government does pass laws regarding this issue, then they should be held responsible for the cost of it. Some people cannot afford having this done, but they are not going to want to get rid of their pet because of it.

I do think people need to spay their cats and dogs because of the increased population of animals and the fact that so many go homeless.

I think that it'a a bad situation all around. It's sad that animals are put to sleep just because there isn't enough room for them. I think that if the regulations were followed to control breeding, the problem wouldn't be so out of control.

Yes, I think their should be laws for owner's to get their pets spayed/neutered because of the over popultion of animals. I've seen and heard stories of too many animals left in packs, in old barns and homes, andthey survive of each other, that is ridiculous. If there are ways to prevent this problem then I think they should enforce it.

I’m not for killing animals by any mean. But I have to say 47000000 cats and dogs roaming free would be crazy. We have to do something with them. I might be for enforcing nurturing so that we don’t have to kill so many.

If an animal is just going to be a pet with no intention of breeding then the pet should be spayed or neutered. There are always stray animals running the streets because they have no home or have been abandoned.

I think there should be a law when it comes to getting your pets fixed because it does help the pet population and makes the animal less territorial. All breeders should be made to take the classes in order to get their license.

There should be mandatory laws requiring pet owners to spay/neuter their pets. There is way too much over crowding in animal shelters. This result in hundreds of thousands of animals to be euthanized each year, because there is not enough space or money to keep them around. In order to not kill off these species we should have specific people breed which have to go through a licensing process. Then only allow a set number of people breed each specific breed.

I think that any subject on any animal is very touchy. It can go either way. One getting them spayed will no longer allow them to reproduce. That is wrong because they may want children also. How would a human like to be spayed. And as far as euthanizing them, if there isn't a home and there on their last life it's just a precaution that might have to be taken.
