Why are there so many great musicians in the world that have never been heard of? It seems these days that the only way to make it in the music business is to have a large amount or cash or a professional connection. Why can't an unknown musician just go to a radio station and have them play their music? The cruelty and deception of the music industry conglomerates has, somewhat, scared away good artists from merging into the mainstream scene. The amount of undiscovered artists is unimaginable, but why is it so many?Much Appreciated,

I totally agree I have a friend and a cousin who has so much talent but its so hard for them to be heard. It seems the only way is American Idol or some reality show. I guess money is power.

I know exactly what you are talking about it gets me upset when I see people who have record deals that have no talent but just because they have surtain look they have a record deal but yet people who have the talent and because they are over weight or something they cant make it anywere.
I know many unknown bands and musicians. They play bar to bar trying to get their selves known and they have the talent just don't have the looks. I have listen to other radio stations in other areas and I hear more love for the local music scene there. I'm curious why not here. I know if you listen to 99.1 on certain days you can here a local metal/rock band's song, but I wish they would do more than just one song to support them. I know if I ever had the money or ability I would defiantly support the areas musicians a lot, but now all I can do is make it out to a rock show and bring along my friends and cheer them on.

When it comes to the music industry they are not looking for people w/ talent. What they want is a good looking puppet that suites the fashion of what ever theme is the hottest, or whoever can buy their way in or call in the most favors. Sadly this is the music industry and I doubt it will ever change.

There are so many who have never been heard of because they are lazy and will not pursue their dream no matter what it takes.An unknow musician can go to a radio station and if they got any talent they will get air time the truth of the matter is they probably suck.Just because some confused white boy knows how to scratch a record and maybe spit a beat he heard on a tarzan movie doesnt mean hes some great undiscovered talent.Most of todays musicians got where they are now by persaverance.Im sure they didnt sit around smokin bud tryin to see who can sag the farthest,just hoping the man from death row will knock at the door and give em a contract.You speak of the cruelty and deception of the music industry congloms. Dude you need to open your eyes cause its a cruel and deceptive world.
I dont know why there are so many undiscovered artists. I guess who you know really does matter.

The reason is simple you either need to know people, have money, or just get lucky. The music industry is so competitive that you need to have one the three or more than one. The days of the self made artist is over thanks to american idol in my opinion. Everything is about money, do you have or can you make it? If you dont or cant they wont even look at you.
The music industry is a very tough road to travel. You travel the circuit, do the nightly gigs and hope and pray that you are noticed. It has been happening for generations and will continue to happen for generations. Some make it, most don't. Does that mean give up your dream because you don't have the money to buy your way in. Nope. It means that once you reach the ultimate you will have earned it. It may not be right but that is the way it is.
I agree they should be able to just go to a radio station and play their music. People got to hear about it somehow and if they like it, they'll buy their music and support them. It does take either money or a personal connection to get into the business. Nothing is free of course but you have to pay for everything yourself and thats a lot when your trying to work on your music career. It's hard to have a job and still practice your music. Artists should not be talked up or down like the media does. There are plenty of unheard performers out there but nobody will listen because the media doesn't portray them as cool. There is a girl in my town right now that is trying to be a singer. She is a really good singer and is 17 at the moment. She's been singing since probally around age 10. She's in school but her parents drive her all the way to Nashville to sing and hopefully make it big. Once again, it's the lack of money.

I think it's stupid that in order to get any sort of recognition in the music business, the musician has to have a ton of money or know somebody. I completely agree with the fact that there are millions of musicians that have a ton of talent and are never noticed. Occaisonally, if the artist(s) get lucky, their music makes it onto college stations. Major props to the Parkland radio station for exposing us all to the great and wonderful sounds of indie bands! I really wish more indie artists could break out and be heard!

The world revoves are round who you know and how much you got. Most jobs people get are by knowing somebody that know somebody. You need connections in life to get on top and this is true with anything you try to do.Its easier now to get out there and get sighned, you have the net to help put music out there. Right place right time.
I totally agree with you!! I think that the only way to be is to know someone who's famous, be born famous or have a lot of money/power. I think that things shouldn't work this way, they should give opportunities to everyone. Some people that are amous today aren't even talented, they just are because they where born from a famous, which I see wrong because all they have to do is sign a paper. As in for all others, they really do have to work very hard. If there's a lot of undiscovered artist is because they really don't want to, I mean, they should try to be heard from someone that is important and someone that is really seeking for real talent. And honestly, there should be more to about this because all they play in the raidio these days are songs that you get tired of hering them over and over again, specially if the song is a piece of crap but just because it comes from someone real famous it has to be good.

But if you're chosing to be in the music industry you have to have the mentality that there is always someone one step ahead of you, so you have to work ten times harder.
This is so true. In order for someone to even think about playing an unheard of musicians music is so hard. Musicians everywhere are turned down because they are nobodies. Obviously people don't understand that everyone was once a nobody, until someone finally said forget it and gave them a break. There are so many unheard of musicians who have so many things to offer, and no one ever once to give them a break

I disagree with you entirely, It used to be just as you describe. It used to be that radio stations and recording studios had all of the say but that is just not so anymore! Thanks to websires like myspace music, and itunes, and becuase of gadgets like an ipod it is making the music industry alot more affordable for artists to create their own music and record their own songs. software like garage band, and others that do the same thing or more are now available to the public. Thats not to say that the music industry isn't a hard industry where everyone cannot come out on top. But I think that technology has gone a long way in bringing music back to the people.

I agree that there are a lot of talented musicians that haven't been heard of. A lot of people don't want to give new people a break. For whatever reason you have to know someone in the industry or you have got to have a lot of money to make it.It's sad but that's the way it is; really the industry is causing us to miss out on good talent.
You don't have to have money or professional connections inorder to get a record deal. The biggest way to get noticed is to send a demo disc or put it on youtube. Hell that girl that sang for the Ipod commercial got a record deal when it was posted on that website. The record companies look at what kind of music is currently popular, the bands appearance, and if it is worth giving a record deal to or just a waste of time. And the issue about the radio station, the owners don't have live bands come in because they risk the stations reputation.

I think that so many people are doing so many things nowadays, it is real hard for one person to make it big. You basically have to be amazing.
