Music Education is "becoming extinct" in some schools across the country. Studies show that students involved in a music class daily do better overall in their schoolwork. What is your opinion? Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Please explain your answer. If you are involved in some sort of music education class, please explain what and how you feel about it.

Music education is a great thing. It teaches self discipline and organization skills. That is if you had the music instrutor I had.
Keeping music out of the schools would be a horrible thing. Not everyone is good academically but can excel in either a music program or an arts program. The should have the right to feel good about themselves too.
I am music appreciation at the moment and like the class. I wish I had kept up on the instruments I played while in school because then I could participate the way I really enjoy, and that is by playing.
I have honestly done perfectly fine for myself without the influence of music in school. Music education is just one thing that can teach self discipline. My grades are excellent and I can guarantee it wasn't because of music, so I'd have to disagree. Anything constructive will keep the mind active, contributing to students doing better in school work.
I love music! I've been involved with music since I was really young and feel strongly that it is wrong for music education to be taken away from young people.
Music progams give kids places to go after school, somewhere to meet others and teach skills that may not be otherwise taught.
I was taught discipline, responsibility, respect, and so much more from music. It's not just about playing an instrument or singing. Music allows creativity to come out and makes an environment where kids can get away from problems and enjoy making music.
I will be taking music appreciation next semester and am extremely excited because I will get an in-depth discussion and perception of music today.
I have never heard much about the link between good grades and music classes, but I have heard that listening to Mozart makes babies smarter. That theory has been disproved, but I still think that classical music is relaxing to them. I have always loved music and been very involved in it. I would have been upset to learn that it was being taken out of my school! I want my children to go to a school where music classes are taught, and I think that every student should have to go through at least one music class so they at least appreciate music.
I think music programs should be in schools.Involvement in a music program teaches kids more than just how to use a musical instrument.Also some kids have a natural talent for music that would most likely go undiscovered if not for an elementry school music program
I have never been in a music class at school or anywhere, but I do think it is important to offer them. I play guitar, and it has given me something to work for and to get better at. The reason students do better at there schooling when they are in a music class, is the fact that they devlope the habit of not being lazy and have to work to achieve things. Learning an instrument is not easy, and you have to work hard to improve and get better, which can develope life long habits to work hard at everything you do.

I think that music education should be kept in schools. I was a trombone player in high school and i am learning piano now. I think that it keeps a person motivated and challenged when they play an instrument. If it was taken out of schools, i think i never would have tried to even play an instrument. I do think that music education should continue in schools.
i havent been in a music program for several years, but i do still think they should be provided. everyones brain works differently and if being in a music class helps you do better than power to ya.i think people just dont respect music classes like they do other classes because they have a mental steryotype, they think if they have a kid that grows up to be a musician they will somehow be inferior to someones whos child is a doctor or a lawyer or somthing so they are afraid to encourage their child to just live their lives. instead they try to live out there hopes and dreams vicariously through them.

I am not involved/was not involved in any music education class growing up, however I do think that it needs to be available to students who wish to be involved in music. I think by not having it available students are being robbed of thier education, they should have many differnt subjects to pick from and not be strictly isolated to just math, reading, and science etc..There is far more to school then just the academic side, programs like music give kids the opportunity to find something they love and is also a way for them to make friends with people who share the same intrests as them.
Being an individual who has been involved in band and choir since I was 12, I believe it should be kept in school. Having the ability to play and create music is an escape from the outside world. You have your own talent, and you can be your own person, so it just gives you time to be you. Some people use music to express themselves in a way they couldn't do without their instrument or their singing voice. Music education also helps improve things like organization skills, timing skills and foreign language skills. I would hope that it would not become rare in schools, so when I have children, they can be involved in it. SAVE THE MUSIC!
i participated in music education during high school, it was the first calss of the day. even if i was feeling a little mad after that class i was feeling much better. it was something about making the sweet sound of music that seemed to turn my day around for the better.

Music education is a great thing. It can teach lots of things that students wouldn't learn in a classroom. I think that the arts should always stay in school. They are important to many kids education. It always gives kids another option to excel.
I did Choir, Piano, Guitar, voice lessons, clarinet, and chello. I loved music and got a good well round expirece. I believe that these classes are beneficial in the same way that sports are beneficial to other students. It offers an incentive to students who particiapte to keep good grades and a good attendance record. So in that sense they are very beneficial. Music offers a productive outlet for those who may not accel in areas like math or science. It allows students to use talents they may not have known they posess.

I think music education is incredibly important. Music is in our lives everyday. And has been around since the beginning of time. It will never die and people will always make new kinds. The influence of music can affect all parts of your life. The fact that music is getting thrown out of schools just makes me scared for future and well-being of our children. Music has already come to an all time low. Stuff that is being played on the radio is just not as creative and personal as it used to be. People are letting go of their creative genius and just settling to be mediocre.
I was in music programs since i was in the 5th grade and all the way through high school. I made many friends from the programs. I feel that it does help students with other class work, i know it did help me. I feel the music program was a great program for anyone in it.
i didnt participate in music in school, but i did notice that people that do, have better grades and better academic performance. so i think music should be offered in all schools.
