Smoking or drinking?

Is smoking marijuana safer than drinking alcohol? If so, why do you think weed is illegal and alcohol is legal? Do you think the side effects are the same or different?

To tell the truth I don't know really anything about smoking Mary Jane. All I know is that both alcohol and weed are probably not the best alternatives to a good old fashioned lock-in at the rec center. Either way, I've heard people say that since weed is so popular, maybe the government should legalize it and tax it. Maybe, maybe not, I don't really know what to think about that. I suppose that it is probably more expensive than beer, but less of it will get the job done. I'm not really an expert on the subject, so I apologize for not being of more help.

It doesn't really matter if marijuana is safes than alcohol because both are drugs and are harful for the body. For example, someone who drinks and drive while being drunk will probably get into a car crash and end up in the hospital or the graveyard. On the other hand, someone that is high off of marijuana will get into a car crash as well. So, marijuana is no safer than alcohol because someone can still get hurt if they are under the influence. The side affects are probably different, but in the end you will still be messed up from drinking to much or smoking to much.

I believe marijuana should be legal. First off, it does not impare your ability to be coherent even half as much as alcohol. It does not make you lose your innabitions and do things you would not normaly do. I believe we should always focus on keeping children and young teenagers off of drugs, including alcohol and marijuana, but as an adult I should have the right to decide wether I want to go to a bar and drink beer, or go to a bar and smoke a little pot. I just watched a speech that was given on this subject and the speaker gave many scientific sources that proved it's affects were minimal, especially when compared to alcohal. It provides cancer patients, aids patients and several other kinds of patients with benefits that could not be attained in any other way and still be natural.

I think that both marijuana and drinking are about equal in safe-ness. I mean both of them can severly impair your judgement and make you very drowsy. I think that weed is illegal because it has more lethal effects that that of alcohol, i think that it may also take affect more quickly than the same dose of alcohol. I think that it takes more alcohol to get the same high that weed may give you. the effects are probably along the same lines, but as a person that has not tried either I can tell you I am not an expert on the subject.

Pot is illegal because America wanted a reason to persecute Mexicans. It remains illegal b/c it's so profitable to the government. My mom drinks 3 beers a night, I don't think it's a whole lot different than smoking a hitter. The side affects of alcohol are stronger than any other substance we abuse for recreation! Look it up, I know. Pot still isn't good for you though, but neither is the food at the grocery store or the water we drink. I think pot could have been legal once but it seems to late to change it now, even though some ungodly amount of people smoke in varying degrees. If pot were legal I think it should have all of the same laws as acohol e.g. not at work, not while driving.

I think that the effects of using alcohol and marijuana are similar. I have used alcohol before, but never marijuana, so I am not that sure how strong the effects are. From the people that I have talked to that have used it, I know that you are more relaxed and basically just want to sit down and eat. The most serious effect that I can think of from the use of marijuana would not be the immediate effects, but the long-term consequences. I think that the use of marijuana could possibly lead to increased use of other drugs; such as cocaine, heroin, or meth. It is very possible for someone who uses marijuana all the time to become bored with the drug and look for something stronger to meet his addiction.

Let's face it: drugs and alcohol are bad for you! With that being said, I could see both sides of the story on this one. I personally don't like being in "nanny state" where the government gets to tell me what I can put in my body. If I want to drink Drain-o I think I should be able to under the law. Alcohol is very bad for you and society but will never be made illegal due to the liquor lobby. Marijuana is more complicated. I watched some documentary that basically stated that marijuana was made illegal to combat immigration. I guess the issues never really change. I have no idea why marijuana is illegal now.Partly becuse of the intertia of conservitive America. Partly because it really is not good for you. I do believe that marijuana should be legal. Not because I think that marijuana is harmless; but because I believe that anything that any adult of sound mind chooses to to to himself behind close doors is that person's buisness and no one elses.

I don't really know which one is safer. I would probably have to say that they are both equally dangerous. Both cause you to be impaired and make stupid decisions. Both cause you to do things that you wouldn't normally do. Why weed is illegal and alcohol isn't, I don't know. It seems they both do the same thing to your body. It looks like they both have the same affects on the brain. The main reason I think marijuana is illegal is because it is a gateway drug. A lot of people who do the more serious drugs, such as cocaine and heroin, started out using marijuana. Since marijuana wasn't giving them a good enough high, they wanted to find something that did. Marijuana leads to more dangerous drugs. I don't think that the side effects are the same. Weed has a lot more adverse side effects than alcohol does. I have read that marijuana weakens the immune system, quadruples your chance of a heart attack in the first hour after smoking it, and distorts all the fuctions of the brain such as memory, learning, and problem solving. I believe that alcohols side effects are much less severe than those of marijuana.

Honestly, I have to say that I don't think marijuana is that bad. Yeah there's some negatives with it, like how it's known as the 'gateway' drug and stuff like that, but everything has negatives. I'm thinking that it should be legal. There's really no reason as to why it shouldn't be. I feel like it's right around there with alcohol. So overall, all i have to say is that if alcohol is legal, than there's no reason as to why marijuana shouldn't be.

Hmm... well, I'm not quite sure if I think smoking marijuana is safer than drinking alcohol but I do know that you can't overdose and die from marijuana. Yes, there are alot of negatives to marijuana, like all of the tobacco in it and how it lowers the sperm count but then it is also used in medicine. You can overdose and die from alcohol and it is number one in hurting the liver. I think people just decide that alcohol is better because it is a depressant and after a while you will wire down and with marijuana it takes a while. Marijuana also stays in the body for like 30 days after smoking it. I know that the side effects are different for each drug so I cant really distinguish which one is worse. Alcohol does the body bad at the time, and after a while marijuana starts to hit. So in the long run they are both bad, and I really don't know which one is worse.

I honestly could not tell you the difference between the effects of alcohol and weed. However I do know that alcohol you can over dose and die from. Weed on the other hand you can not OD on. So I would think that is one benefit to weed. Also if it was legalized then I know that you would have several individuals abuse the privledge. Marijuana does have medical effects to for chemotherapy and glaucoma patients.

I feel that marijuana provides less side effects than alcohol. I do not believe people lose their inhibitions like they do with alcohol--especially in the instance of sex. Illinois lost the medical legalization vote by 8 counts. I am glad it looks like we are on the right track to making medical marijuana legalized. I know people personally (cancer patients) who use medical marijuana to relieve some of the symptoms they are suffering. In reference to the harmful effects on the body, people have many ways of doing that. We eat too much, we smoke cigarettes, drink to much caffeine and alcohol, etc. I do believe in educating teens and younger kids about drugs and alcohol though, but for adults it should be free choice. It's your body.

Drugs and alcohol are both bad for the body. They can both kill you, and make the body do crazy things. I don't know much about marijuana, but I've heard it can take people into a different state of mind. Alcohol can do the same, but it might take awhile to build up the tolerance equal to that of marijuana. I think the marijuana should remain illegal. We have enough worries and frustrations with trying to deal with people who are alcoholics, let alone adding pot into the mix! People just need to be smart about what they're doing when they're trying to fun. I think alcohol can be just as dangerous as pot if enough is drank. So, either way the body is going to suffer in the end.

Really I dont think people should smoke weed at all period. Smoking is not good. It kills your brain cells. Why would you want to kill your brain cells? Alcohol is bad for you too. Alcohol eats up your liver. Personally i wouldnt do either. Weed is illegal because its a drug and alcohol is not illegal because its not i guess... I'm not exactly sure about the side effects because I dont want to find out what they are, therefore I chose not to do either one...

I think that marijuana is way less harmful than drinking. It's impossible to smoke so much pot that you die. On the other hand too much drink and you're dead. As for driving, being under the influence of either of these drugs isn't a good idea, but I think that being high would be safer. Think about it, when you high you are more aware of the things around you, thus if you were driving you would be driving your best because you would notice everything. On the other hand we all know drunk driving is just about the worst condition to be in.

English student said...

I have never smokes marijuana so i dont know what it does to you. I looked at a fact sheet and it said that young people who smoke marijuana heavily over long periods of time can become dull, slow moving, and inattentive. The only thing that the fact sheet said about alcohol is that it could lead to addiction and long heavy use could lead to high blood pressure, several different types of cancer, and lowered resistance to disease. Marijuana can impair or reduce short-term memory, alter sense of time, and reduce ability to do things which require concentration. So it will afect your driving just like alcohol will do to you. So if i had to choose between alcohol and marijuana i would choose alcohol because it has a lower impact on your body and mind.

I don't really know anything about marijuana and its effects. I have heard enough people talk about it though to get the assumption that it just slows everything down and relaxes you, where as alcohol makes you loud and fun. But I think that marijuana is illegal because it is the beginning of doing much harder drugs. Alcohol I think goes along with that. When people drink they completely lose their sense of right and wrong. They just want to do what is fun, whether it is safe or not. They don't think anything is harmful. I'm not sure why it is legal and marijuana is not. But I do think that the side effects are the same. You have no control of your body or mind, which can lead to very bad things.

Honestly, I don't know the side effects of either on a personal level because I've, thankfully, never had either. Both seem like a pretty stupid idea to me which is why I've kept my distance. Nothing good comes of either of them, why bother with them? It doesn't matter if one is legal and the other not, they're both bad for your system and people are going to do them both anyway.

Not a very focused opinion, sorry. But, I'm not the master of the subject.

I am not sure which drug is safer, but I do not that neither drug is safe. The both have their side effects and it depends on the how the user adapts to these side effects. No matter which drug you decide to use, you greatly increase your chance of getting into an accident becuase it messes with your tracking and perception. It is not the drug that is bad, people just need to be responsible when they do decide to take it.

I don't know which is worse. However, both of them are dangerous when under the influence. They are both harmful to your body and change your judgement. There is a reason that marijuana is illegal and does not have a legal smoking age. It is obviously not good for you. I don't understand why people find this so appealing. I guess the same matter of having fun and being cool. It kills your brain cells. Drinking is also dangerous unless you know how to handle yourself. I think underage people normally don't know what they are doing and will go crazy when they are drinking. That is why it is illegal until you are 21. So I don't know which one is more dangerous.

Why do either? From a personal experience I don't know much about either. I guess from what I've heard that marijuana might be "safer" rather than drinking. Drinking impairs you a lot. I've seen what it can do; I've even had relative kill himself because he was drinking. But either way it's not good for your body and if used long enough and excessively enough both can kill brain cells.

Sorry if this doesn't help, I really don't know enough about marijuana to answer well enough.

Smoking marijuana is not safer than drinking. I think that they have the same effect, but drinking takes longer depending on who you are and how much you drink. One drink is not going to effect you as much as taking two or three hits.
I am unsure why they have made marijuana illegal, but I would like to know. I do think that the couts need to have a stricter punishment for people who are caught behind the wheel under the influence of either alcohol or marijuana.

ok so i might have exaggerated just a lil bit...but my point is totally valid..

I think that both marajuana and alcohol should both be legal. I think they have different side effects but i dont understand why marajuana is illegal. Both drugs lead to loss of brain cells and have their own internal effects. Marajuana is illegal but i know A LOT of people that smoke weed. Ive never really understood why weed was illegal but I think its because the government has outlawed it and they dont want to turn around and be like ok well i guess we were wrong marajuana isn't really that bad so we will legalize it again. They are just trying to stick to one side. I think that its possible that marajuana might become legal in the future but i doubt it. People will just have to continue being secretive about it even though I think its easier for me to get ahold of weed than it is for me to get a person of age to buy me alcohol. Pretty sad but i honestly think its true.

I am not sure of whether or not smoking marijuana is safer than drinking. I am going to guess not because it is illegal and alcohol is not. I am sorry that I don't know more about weed; I would tell you what the side effects were if i did.
It must be good though because a lot of people go through the trouble of getting it, even though it is illegal.

In a sense I do believe that smoking weed is safer then alcohol. One of the main reasons for violence is alcohol abuse. If you are a person that takes things to the extreme and always have to get overly intoxicated then it would probably be a better alternative to just smoke a blunt and chill. On the other hand if you are just a casual drinker and have no issues then there is no point in smoking just for the sake of killing brain cells, because no matter what anyone says if you are mentally stable you are always going to be able to function better sober then when your high. The reason I believe marijuana is not legal is because the government doesn't want this nation to turn into pothead central and they make more money off it in the judicial system rather then selling it at your local grocery. It's pretty much a lose-lose situation for the government if they legalize it. Although i have no problem with that.

I don't think that weed or alcohol are either good for you. You can become addicted to both, and both make you act differently than you usually do. Not that I think people are that smoke weed and drink alcohol are bad people. I just don't know why people think that they have to drink and smoke weed all the time. No, I really don't think that marijuana should become legal.

The health impact of any drug depends on how it's used, who's using it, how much is used, and under what circumstances. Comparing them directly is difficult. Each possesses the potential for unique risks or benefits. For instance, alcohol is known to contribute to liver disease, but studies also suggest that a nightly glass of red wine can help keep your heart healthy. Marijuana is known to cause trouble when trying to think clearly, but for certain medical conditions; such as glaucoma, marijuana possesses therapeutic properties. On the other hand, people using marijuana or alcohol to get high or drunk are more likely to experience consequences of doing so. Alcohol use may contribute to liver disease, heart disease, peptic ulcers, and physical dependency. Marijuana use may contribute to problems thinking clearly, memory loss, dependency, and smoking-related health problems, such as throat and lung cancer and respiratory problems. Both alcohol and marijuana are thought to contribute to mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety. One major difference is that it isn't possible to overdose on marijuana, while lots of alcohol in a brief period of time can lead to alcohol poisoning, an emergency medical condition that can be fatal. Honestly both are bad. What needs to be taken into account on both cases is how its used.

I think smoking marijuana is safer than drinking. Look at the statistics on deaths and injuries related to drinking compared to statistics on death and injuries related to smoking marijuana. I am outraged by the overwhelming numbers of people who repeatedly receive DUI’s yet seem to continually get away with it. Nothing really gets done until someone loses their life. I don’t know why alcohol isn’t illegal like other drugs because it to is a drug, it is addictive, and it can ruin lives. People respond differently to the effects of alcohol, but most people lose their inhibitions and become very impulsive, causing them to make poor choices. How many times have you heard of somebody getting high and killing someone or getting in a fight? I think both drugs have side effects, but the ones from alcohol are worse.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure if smoking marijuana is safer than drinking alcohol. I have previously had alcohol but I have not smoked marijuana. I have however heard a lot about it. From what I have heard it gets you "so high" What I don't understand is why people can't just play games and go out together rather than smoke marijuana. It is such a waste of time. Both alcohol and marijuana impair your judgement, therefore I think that both of them should be illegal, or they should consider putting MORE restrictions on purchasing alcohol. I don't know if the side effects are the same or different but from what I have heard they are not the same.

From what i have seen there both pretty much equal to me. Marijuana has ruined alot of my friends lives in high school. I've seen guys who could probably gone to play college basketball, but was sidetracked and dropped out of high school because all they wanted to do is to hang out with people that smoked Marijuana. I think alcohol should be illegal just like Marijuana is. Look, thousands of people every year are killed by some idiot who was driving drunk. Alot of peole don't know when its enough to stop drinking, so we should just make it all illegal and be punished with jail time if caught with it. Both slows your reaction time and causes you to do things you would never do if yuo were in the right state of mind. For example, back in 2002 , two guys i went to school with beat a homeless guy to death while they were high on marijuana. I konw those guys would have never done that if they weren't on drugs becuase they were not those type of guys.

Let's face it, as much as we try to justify one or the other, they are both hazardous to our health. However, if I had to dubb one "safer" than the other, I would have to say marijuana is safer than alcohol. I know from first-hand experience that marijuana doesn't impair you as much. And if alcohol is legal, then marijuana should definately be legal. In addition, the punishment for possession is much too severe. Heroine and crack kill people, not weed. I also think that marijuana's medical value is tremendous, and should definately be utilized as a form of treatment at least.
