I think smoking bans are great, personally. I am not a smoker, and I know that second hand smoke can be worse than smoking, so I think that all the smoking bans that are taking place are a step in the right direction. I think it should include bars, and I know this is rediculous, but unless the bar is only for smokers and non-smokers aren't allowed, smoking should be banned in bars. I think that smoking bans don't infringe on the rights of smokers because they can smoke at home. However, not putting in smoking bans infringes on the rights of non-smokers because it's one thing if you want to kill yourself slowly, but don't kill me too! ~Adrianna

My feelings on the smokeing ban is that it would be a good idea to help peole have a more enjoyable eating experince. However I think that bars should have a diferent set of rules. No because if it is done right it will help everyone involed Yes I think that the ban would infrinhe on the rights of non smokers becasue of health reasons and the reasons to go out to eat and be in a clean fresh enviroment.

I am not a smoker, so I do not have any idea how frustrating it can be to not be able to smoke in public places. But, coming from my point of view, I think it would be a great idea for smoking to be banned in public, family-oriented places. I want to be able to enjoy myself whenever I go out and about, but when I am around smoke I get light-headed and sort of queasy.

I do not think there should be a smoking ban in bars, however. If you were to watch a movie, or pick up a book, the bar scene is always the same:smokey. Non-smokers should know by now that a bar is going to be smokey. It is where people go to sit down, enjoy a beer, and possibly a cigarette. I believe that the bar scene would change significantly if there was a smoking ban.

So I guess, I do think that smoking in public places infringes on the right of non-smokers just because I don't smoke, so I don't want to be around it. But, I also can see how a smoking ban could infringe on the rights of smokers. I'm still a little unsure with my feelings on this issue.

I am not a smoker so I think the ban would be wonderful. Cigarette smoke makes me very irritated. There is nothing more frustrating than eating a nice dinner and then being interrupted by cigarette smoke. I think that the bars are a whole different environment. They aren't really a family place, so I don't think that they would need a ban on the bars. I think that smokers just need to remember that smoking is a privilege and not a right.

Coming from a non-smoker, I think that a somking ban infringes on the rights of bar and restaurant owners. I feel as though they should be the ones in charge of their place of business, not the city or town they are located in, and should be able to make their own decision to adapt a smoking ban if they want to. Then the smoker/non-smoker would have the right to choose whether or not to go to a smoking/non-smoking bar or restaurant.

I like the smoking bans because i am a non-smoker. i think that if someone else wants to slowly kill themselves then whatever, but don't involve me too. If people want to smoke then they should do it ont their own time and in their own place... who wants to walk around smelling like smoke, especially if you are a non-smoker and just had to sit next to a smoker. i also have asthma and cigarette smoke really bothers me so i hate it when i go to a restaraunt and their "smoking section" is 15 feet away from me.

I am not a smoker so i think that the smoking ban is a great thing for me. I do think it is kinda wierd that they get rid of smoking in bars of all places but i guess it is because the smoke travels everywhere. not to mention smoking includes second hand smoke which has been proven to cause lung cancer. So for this case i think it is a good thing that the state is making laws about smoking in bars.

A smoking ban in public buildings would be great. I am not overly fond of the idea of getting lung cancer through second-hand smoke so a ban would be a liberating ordinance for all non-smokers. Bars should definitely be included in the ban. Smokers should still be free to light up in the comfort of their own home and make their own mistakes. This would not infringe upon their rights and protect those who do not smoke.
I suppose not all public gathering places could be included in the proposal. Businesses that rely on smoking to support their funds should not be included. This would primarily apply to hookah bars. Right now I am going to take a breath of FRESH air and call this response done.

I definitely think smoking bans are a great thing! When you are in a nice restaurant, enjoying an expensive meal, you don't want to smell cigarette smoke. Also, second-hand smoke causes lung cancer, and quite frankly, I don't feel like dying because of someone else's bad habits!

When it comes to bars, however, I don't think they should ban smoking. Like Lindi said, "It is where people go to sit down, enjoy a beer, and possibly a cigarette." When people drink, many of them like to smoke, and that may cause bar owners to lose business!

I feel that not having smoking bans infringes on the rights of non-smokers. They don't choose to light up a cancer-causing cigarette, so they shouldn't pay for the smoker's mistakes and bad habits!

As a non-smoker I would like to see bars go non-smoking, BUT I do not agree with the government making it law. I say this becuase bars are privately owned businesses an they currently have the option to go non-smoking or not if they like. If a non smoker like myself goes to a bar we should expect smoke and if we don't want to deal with smoke then we can just go to one of the many bars where the owner has CHOSEN to go non-smoking.
I think that the people that complain and talk about their rights are being hypocritical because they want their rights but what about the bar owners rights to run his/her business the way he/she chooses to. If you ask me under the current law non-smokers have more rights now because they can go to smoking and non-smoking places where a smoker can only go to one, so it sounds as if these activist are taking away their own rights, But since the law did pass I am not going to argue with it.

The smoking ban was needed, i know for me personally i hate the smell of smoke and being around it makes me sick. When you go out to eat you want it to be an enjoyable experience. They might have had a smoking an non smoking section,
but honestly that wall that only goes up half way to the ceiling isn't going to do a thing to stop the smoke smell, and the smoke itself from getting over
to the other side. I can understand how smokers might be upset about it but it
makes more people uncomfortable than it makes people comfortable. If your so addicted to smoking then you will have a lot of determination to find somewhere else to go smoke rather than in a place where their is food and people who are trying to enjoy that food.

I think that overall the law is great and will make a lot of people happier and more comfortable when they go out to eat.

I think that the smoking ban is a terrible idea. the government makes 30% or more on just ciggerates alone. i would have to say that i am for the ban in resturants because who wans to inhale soke and a steak at the same time! But as far as the bars go, smoking should be alowed. thats why they were created, when you go to a bar you go there for two main reasons, to drink, and to smoke. so yeah i think it is dumb but somewhat necessary.

Im not a smoker, so I wouldnt mind it being banned. I grew up with friends that smoked and I just got used to it. Now I work nights as an aircraft mechanic and all my co-workers smoke in the office, and Im use to that. But I would like to enjoy a meal without hearing my girlfriend complain that the smoke is rolling over into the non-smoking section. I also think that it is wrong when a child has to go with its parents to the smoking section and has no choice but to sit there. I think bars are another thing though, people go there to relax and chill. I think those types of places are different, because you dont usually bring your family there. Aaron Royse

Well, I am around smokers more than I would like to. I understand that it is their own decision to smoke, but I just don't know why people would want to shorten their lives. I have heard that it relaxes some people, but it definitely does not relax my sinuses! Most people in bars usually smoke when they drink, so I don't see why it would be banned in them. The ban of smoking could infringe on the rights of smokers, so I think that there should be designated areas for smokers. I really think that smoking in resturants isn't a good thing because it seems to seep into the food. I've had a bad experience! As long as there is designated areas for smoking, I don't think that it infringes on the rights of non-smokers to be in a smoke-free environment.

the smoking ban is a really good thing to happen with law making in a long time if a person wants to shorten their life span and kill themselves its their own decision, but doing the same thing to another
person sitting across the table from you isn't right and i am glad something was finally done about it, however i dont think the ban should include bars
