Buddha, Meet Jesus

Would Buddha and Jesus hang together? What would they talk about? Did they have similar values? What are some of the big differences between the beliefs and views of Jesus and Buddha? Did either one of them influence the other, or did they even know of each other?

What can we learn from Buddha that we can't learn from Jesus, and what can we learn from Jesus that we can't learn from Buddha?

If you don't know much about Buddha and his similarities to Jesus Christ, you might check this web site: http://www.heartlandsangha.org/parallel-sayings.html

Thanks for your input!

I do not think that it is proper to believe that buddha and jesus should be used that calmly. Jesus was the son of god a perfect man that did no wrong and died for us to bring about the great plan and the salvation of man. This is in no way what buddha did in his life he did not live and die for men nor did he live a perfect life. He did how ever live a good life and brought about a different way of thinking but him and jesus are not and should not be considered the same.

I think that they may have hung out at one point in time. they may have even worked together. maybe they sit around and decide who's number is up next, or maybe they play pingpong or cards waiting to start a thunderstorm at the right time. probally not but you never know. they have very same qualities i believe, they both probally have created sins like everyone else and also have learned new things from eachother. they are pretty much the same but they are from different cultures, nationalities and races. thanx audrey p.

I feel Budda and Jesus have nothing in common. Budda is an idol that people praise upon and worship. Jesus gave his life so that we could have a chance to live on earth. due to the fact that Adam and Eve sinned. Jesus is much more powerful that Budda and I think they would have nothing to talk about.

Budda is the way to enlightenment, and jesus is the path to righteousness, both have similar underlying themes but as it was previously stated "jesus prays and budda thinks"

Buddha's teachings are fairly concise in comparison to Jesus'. Siddhartha Gotama outlined four basic "Noble Truths." He pretty much summarized that suffering is a part of life caused by craving but that happiness can be attained by reaching a state called Nirvana. Jesus has thousands of messages to share. Many of his teachings closely follow the Ten Commandments.
I somewhat doubt that Jesus and Buddha would have hung together since Buddha is about 500 years older. If they had, they probably would have both talk about their beliefs and offer a reason for converting to each other's faith. They had similar values, though thousands of differences can be found if analyzed properly. We learn similar things from each, though we learn from Jesus that eternal life in heaven is attainable. Buddha's belief is in a worldy state of perfection of Nirvana.

I have a problem comparing Jesus to Buddha. It is not my belief to worship any other idols. Darcy Cekander

I don't know very much about Buddha so I will use what I know about Jesus to answer your questions. I think that if Buddha wanted to chat with Jesus, Jesus would allow it. Jesus never was and never is the one to turn people away. I am sure they would have deep conversations in which both would reason out their point of view, although I firmly believe that if they had hung together, it would be clear that Jesus' views are the right way. Obviously on some points Buddha would be right too, as they share common beliefs, but all in all, being a Christian, I see Jesus as the right path. No, I don;t think they knew of each other because of how far apart they lived both in place and time. However, since Jesus was the SOn of God, maybe he did know who Buddha was, but I won't know that until I get the chance to see God face face if I get to Heaven.

I dont think that Buddha and Jesus would have a problem hanging with each other seeing that they were both peacefull guys. I think they would be pretty open minded. It just sounds like Buddha wanted people to know about nirvana and being in that state of mind. And Jesus tought about God and died for our sins. I dont think that either one of them influence each other. They had similar beliefs but I dont think they influenced each other. Aaron Royse

I looked at the website you provided, and some of Buddha's teachings and Jesus' teachings are similar. But, that is just about as much as I know about Buddha. What I would really like to do is steal Adrianna's comment, because I think she says exactly how I feel. Jesus wouldn't turn Buddha away, and they probably would sit down and talk about things, but I don't think I could ever compare Jesus to Buddha because Jesus is the son of God. I don't believe that we can say that they influenced each other because Jesus was put on this Earth by his Father and he did God's will.

I know nothing about Buddhism at all, but from what I know abut Jesus they would hang out together. I say this because Jesus did not discriminate, he hung out with the poorest of the poor and the worst of the worst so I doubt if he leave out Budda.

I don't know much about Buddha, but I doubt that Jesus and Buddha hung out together. For one thing there was a huge age difference, and also, they lived in different parts of the world. Although they might have had some of the same ideas, I don't think they could be compared. Jesus is the Son of God and was sent here to save all of man kind. I don't think Buddha had that much impact on mankind.
