Cutting Education Budgets

An education is an essential necessity for all people to have. All over the United States our government is making drastic budget cuts in our education system. Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed cutting $680 million from the education budget, and is also asking schools to make cuts around $1.4 billion near the end of the school year. Should the government be making such large budget cuts, or even making them at all?

Personally I think it's a bad idea to get rid of school funding, for it is the back bone of pretty much everything these days. with out school we would have no doctors, no lawyer, not scientists no businesses, etc etc. Also things like music, and sports in education are very important for the development for children and there children. "to save education is to have one more doctor which means one more life. To have one more teacher means another to help prepare a child in life."

Cutting the education budget is the last thinkg we should cut. Children need education more now then anything. They can cut money else where. Educating a kids should be the first priority to keep not the first to cut. They may need to cut extra staff at schools but, not teachers. Teachers are the school they make our kids what they are today. Without them how do have a future for our kids? Cut money from other sources like the goveners pay check! Dawn Smith

I think budgeting schools is the worst idea you can do, people who do not have a degree tend to fall into the wrong path. Money problems start to happen, stress levels rise, and then people start to make poor decisions. By cutting down costs for schools these chances are going to increase dramatically, and right now that is the last thing are nation needs. So many people are unemployed and by taking proper schooling away from kids that is only going to make matters worse for us. We are gonna be the ones relying on the kids today in the future so why take away their education when we are going to have to depend on them years to come?

It's an awful idea, our education creates the basis of our society, our future knowledge. To what reason are we cutting our funds? Since a lot of our government still has a "throw money at shit" mentality and if anything should be cut it's the pay of those in charge of deciding where money goes so they have a greater understanding of what's going on to people, especially teachers.

It is terrible to cut a schools funding because the children are the future. If the youth coming up do not have a proper education we will be doomed in years to come. In twenty years these youth will be the new workforce and the lack of education will be reflected in their work. What makes it even worst the government is trying to cut essential budgets so they can fund things like war, which they are spending entirely to much money on every year. I think we should be paying our taxes to put a book in a kids hand and not a gun.

no, the schools need the money for programs. people are going to lose their jobs and then what? the recession will get even worse. they wouldnt need to make all these cuts if they were spending the money they had wisely. i drove down the road the other day and a whole construction crew were just sitting around chatting not doing anything and a guy was actually laying out on the equipment under an umbrella. they were doing the same thing when i drove back an hour or two later. thats what our money is being spent on, seriously?

I think thats a horrible idea. Thats making teachers lose there jobs and everything. Thats what i'm want to be when i get older, is a teacher so its cutting me out of a job. Its also cutting kids out of here education. They won't have to many classes to chose from if they cut down the budgets on the schools which isn't fair to the kids. I want to be able to help the kids learn new things, and i wouldn't be able to if they goverenment is cutting education budgets.

Today education is just so important, that making education budget cuts is a really, REALLY bad idea. The school I went to laid off every teacher's aid and student's aid, but somehow can still afford to pay for two principals and a superintendent! Since the government is making budget cuts, school have to be more thrifty with the money they do get. I think it's horrible that they government can bail out theses big banks and other companies, but will let the school funding go! The cuts of the education is just a bad idea, but so is giving a bank a ton of money then the bank giving that money to a CEO as a big Christmas bonus. Some things just don't make sense.

If i were the governer, i wouldn't. Education is really important to our society and with the bad economy, you can't really get a job if you don't have a higher or good education. The children need teachers and they shouldn't cut out extra curricular activities completely. If they just cut down it would help the school financially, but kids needs sports and music. It's part of their developmental growth. If people aren't being educated, employers would hire anyone to get the job done. And if a person can't think for themselves, they have a good chance of messing the buiness up if he or she doesn't know what they are doing. Education is the only thing that is going to get us any where in life.

Although I believe that education is essential today, I also understand that everyone in this economy must tighten their belts. Just like a home budget, when funds are limited, there are only so many things you can do. You are forced to choose priorities and get creative to make the funds you have cover the needs.Sometimes we even have to do without. In many areas of education, as well as government, there are areas that can be trimmed. Even though we don't want to hear that OUR programs or benefits are being cut, we may all have to contribute for the overall good. (Closer to home: this year Parkland had an extremely high number of scholarships not even applied for. Why not?)

The other side of the coin that also must be considered is where are those funds coming from? The funds used for government and public education comes from the money we pay for our taxes. How can we keep saying, "lower our taxes", and say, "increase funding for education" at the same time? Every area (governmental, educational, infrastructural...) paid for by tax funds must tighten their belts and cut spending. If other arenas using taxpayer funds cut back, education might have some of those funds available also. It seems Education simply gets the most publicity since it's so near and dear to our hearts. Often times too, political figures use this issue to their advantage to push through their agenda or hold support.

Waste in schools has always been a problem. Administrators are now forced, like all of us at home, to look for the best, most cost effective ways to meet needs. Whether this means recycling, reusing equipment or resources, using books longer or limiting improvements and expansions, school/college boards will have to make some tough calls. We can do our part by supporting them in those decisions.

I hate that the government is making budget cuts on schools. Education is the most important thing, and I feel like some states don't value it enough. In my high school we didn't have enough books to go around, which made it harder for me to learn. Also I hate that most students are canceling there art and music programs, music and art are necessary for children to get a rounded education.

Cutting education budgets is not a good idea because its not fair for the students or teachers. Students need to learn while teachers need to be paid for the services that they are providing. Being a teacher is hard work they spend more time with the child then the parent does on a daily bases.Children deserve to have the best when it comes to a great education. Yes we know that the Government are going to make cuts but education should not be where they do it.

i dont think the government should be messing with this money for schools. i think it should be free to go to school because many students may not have no one to go to for help. it makes it so hurt to get into school when you have to pay. the fact the government is taking money from the schools is going to really make it hard for the students becasue they have to pay more money. i think as long as kids are going to school then there should be a free charge for school. i know people that has no one to help them and they really want to go to school but cant becasue without info the school will not let them in.

I do think that the actions in California are extremely short-sighted and will backfire on their state when those students who are being overlooked now have to enter the work force with a reduced education. But I think that rather than saying that we need to spend more on education, the focus needs to be on how effectively we spend each dollar. Our school system is begging for a massive overhaul of a completely outdated system. Most Americans aren't farmers unlike the 1800s when our current school system was originally designed, so perhaps letting kids out for the entire summer isn't the best idea anymore. There are some studies that suggest kids lose as much as one third of their knowledge from the previous school year over the summer.

On a positive note, one of the recent financial bills that congress has passed lately make college more accessible. It makes getting and paying off student loans much easier thus providing more incentive for students to go to college. This is an example of the concept more effective spending on education rather than debate more/less spending, and I think that before we start getting upset about reduced money going toward education we need to understand to what extent the money that is already being spent is wasted.

No, the government do not need to cut education. How do they think people are going to better themselves: if it is hard to go to school, lack of resources, and programs. The government is making it had for people to live. You can not get a job today, without an education. They are cutting money from healthcare and education, the things we need to live. Children need more programs to give them motivation to succeed, not less. This is why violence is raising, lack of resources. The government need to reevaluate what is important in life.
