Trust your government?

Cancer is the second largest reason for death, and in 2007 alone 7.9 million people all around the world died of cancer. By 2030 it is estimated that the number will be 11.5 million.

Considering that people like you and me know these facts, then the government must know them as well. Do you think that the government is hiding things from average, everyday Americans, such as a cure for cancer? If so, why? And if you don't, then what is it that makes you put so much trust in the idea that our government does everything they can to make life safe for us?

Over the years the world is getting overpopulated. That could be the case that the numbers of disease increase. As of now, their are around 6,697,254,041 people around the world and scientist belive by 2050 we might reach around 11 billion people around the world.

Honestly I think it is a mixture of things One of the bigger problems is the fact that we can patent things like cancer. We can even patent peoples DNA. The problem with that is it makes it so no one can really openly work on finding a cure do to the fact that only certain company's are able to work on it so that makes it even harder to find a cure for things like cancer. Also there are some treatments already that can prevent some cancer. Granted not all are treatable yet, but I have faith that we eventually will find more information on how to decrease the risk even more of getting cancer

Screw the government, like everyone has been saying the government is so corrupt they do more harm then good. look at Illinois are governors are being thrown in jail and arrested for stealing money. I think our government has the cure to cancer but they cant release it. Cancer is the number one killer in this world and we need a balance. Without this balance of life and death our system (economy) wouldn't work the way it is suppose to. If we had the cure no one would be dying and people would be popping out babies left and right. Are planet isnt made to support all that life at one time. It sucks but knowing that we can die and not be saved from certain things gives life an exciting meaning. How exciting would life be if you knew you couldnt die from anything, if everything was curable, you wouldn't beable to enjoy the actual meaning of it. Im not saying i dont want a cure for cancer because i would love it, it's just that it would almost do more harm than good if we had a cure for cancer because so many people would be living longer, and we definitely do not have an unlimited supply of resources on our planet.

Who knows, the government may have the cure for cancer and are holding out on the American people. These days the government is so corrupt that it would not surprise me if that is what they are actually doing. Some people say that the government is responsible for 9/11, and if they are capable of doing that I am sure that they would have no problem holding out on people who have cancer. The only reason that I would think that the government would do such a thing is because of overpopulation, which keeps increasing rapidly. It seems like a wild idea to think that the government has the cure for cancer, but the government does many things that the normal people in the United States have no idea about, so it could be possible that they actually do have the cure for cancer.

Trust them? No way! They are just a bunch of crooks! I think they do more harm then good. They have built themselves up so high and mighty that they don't really see the common peoples problems. What's this crap about them sewing Arizona for passing a law to tighten border control. Yeah because that makes sense right?

I guess it's possibly a cure has been found but imagine the current population multiplied by who knows how many? If the government(Obviously being impersonal) must have a way of population control cancer does not choose a specific race or gender (for the most part) and causes suffering to almost everyone, rather to one specific group. If, rationally, we must control our population growth I'd prefer it be cancer than some type of massacre.

I love my country, but I do not have any faith in the government at all. I think they have all types of information they keep from us and they tell us it is for our own good. They believe that Americans can't handle the truth or they are just trying to cover their own ass. I do not believe that the government has a cure to cancer and if they are trying that would be something that is very complex that would take a long time to perfect. And if they ever did perfect it i'd imagine it would be just as hard to get as the cure for AIDS.

I think the government is closer to a cure for cancer then they let us know about. If they can have a man walk on the moon then they can find a cure for cancer. I think they don't want to let us know if they find a cure for it just yet. The government makes alot of money from people who have cancer. All the drug and medical needs of the patients help them make money, if they find a cure and no one needs those things anymore then that is lost money for lots of companies. They need to tell us more but, it's the government they don't need to tell us anything. It's sad because they could save a lot of lifes each day from cancer. Dawn Smith

I believe they are hiding certain things from us. Some might say there not, but i think they should tell us everything not keep it from us. Whats that showing us. Can we trust the goverenment? Can they improve our lives by changing everything? I think in some parts they did good changes and then they did bad changes. I don't think we should trust them for anything. If they can't find cures for certain things then how can they help people survive cancer.

Of Course they hide information from us. The government has restrictions on media and i honestly think that we are better off not knowing some of the things. I don't think they would be hiding cures for cancer from us. Even if they did, the person who develpoed the cure for cancer, would be quiet about it. he would be a billionaire. They might be hiding stuff like top secret underground neuclear plant to build neuclear bombs to defend our country. We'll never know. but they probably keep certain things from us so we don't panic.

You post several very diversified questions. First, do I always trust everything the government does, Firmly, NO. While there are things that must be kept restricted for national security, there are other things that should be made known to the public or at least balanced and fair watch dog groups that will hold government responsible.
That is something to keep in mind at the next election. Are we putting good people in office that will actually "look out" for our welfare and not turn into what we frown on as "politicians" people in it for personal gain.
From there, you ask about the cure for cancer. I have a hard time thinking that an actual "Total cure " has been found. Research has had numerous break-throughs that have made medicine today multiple times better than in the past. The time was when people hearing the dreaded "C" word would just curl up and quit. Today they have opportunities to fight back and life is often extended years after treatment.
Do I think everything is totally on the up & up with cancer research and information about it? Think about this. If there are billions of dollars going into cancer research, billions of dollars going into cancer treatments & medical costs or treatment facilities, what do you see happening if there was suddenly a cure? I would really hope that humanity has not gotten so selfish as to let money or greed stop them from helping their fellow man, but when I look around.....?

(To expand on several of the comments in your feedbacks.)
As to who you can trust...in the population control idea that is being tossed around; learn what you can about euthanasia. If you push abortion to stop the beginnings and euthanize those at the other end of the spectrum(seniors or special needs) so that the current "me" generation can focus on self...see where that can go? It's already starting to be a popular idea. Watch for it.
Not to create paranoia, but there has always been some information that has been held back. For our own good? Who knows?

I believe that if the government knew the real cure for cancer, they would not reveal it to anyone. Their ideas are not really established anyway, they are still trying to get the economy "fixed up". If the government were to get acquainted with their public like they should ,they would probably fare better. The public has the right to know about their own health issues; and cancer is some thing that one should very well be concerned about; my argument would be that if I were a smoker I would be angry at the little known facts, and get back to those days where you heard it on every t.v. in America - that cigarette smoking causes cancer, then I think I would show them a picture of the cancer to produce a visual aid. Why would the government be hiding the cure to cancer? That’s just silly. People who don't have health insurance and have cancer cost the government million of dollars a year, if they could cut down on the cost with a cure, why would they hide it?

Maybe they are or not thats something we may never know but I do like the fact that we support those that do suffer from this terrible disease by having different marathons and recieving donations to help in finding a cure. I feel that as long as we continue to do our part whether or not a cure is found then we can't say we didn't try. I do feel that the Government does the best that they no how to keep use safe but we all are human and there will be mistakes we make that we are not able to take back.

yes i do think the government is hiding things. i think there is a cure for cancer and they are not telling americans. i know billionaires pay there way out of cancer just like any one else with alot of money its just the fact of that if the government let it be known that its a cure it would be a big descion on how to help people with cancer. the fact that the world is getting over populated can be other reason why dieases are getting separated around.

First, of course the government hide things from the American people. They admit to it every day. There are levels of classification on information that the government controls that strictly dictate who is allowed to see what kind of information. That said, no, the government does not have the cure for cancer.

Secondly, it isn't the government's job to do everything it can to make life safe for us. Life is inherent in risk. The only way to reduce that risk to nothing would be to put everyone in a cage and not let them out. That is ridiculous. The government's job is closer to balancing and regulating the general sentiment of how much freedom vs safety that American citizens want out of life. This varies from year to year and decade to decade, and laws get changed accordingly.

Also, the government doesn't conduct cancer research. They merely provide money to researchers and institutions so that those people might try to find a cure. The closest thing to control the government has over the information is to have a small panel of their own experts look at each research proposal that comes to them and determine whether that proposal has enough merit, and is thought out enough that it deserves a massive government check.

Third, I question if you really understand what cancer is. Cancer isn't "A" disease, it is a single term to refer to many many kinds of disease where replicating cells in the body don't know when to stop growing. The cells in the body split and continue to replicate until they are destroyed or they overwhelm vital organ systems and a person dies. This happens constantly to all of us everyday and the body has redundancy systems in place to destroy these wayward cells before they get out of control. Yet when the redundancy systems aren't effective enough a tumor grows and a person is diagnosed with cancer. Potentially, there are as many kinds of cancer exist as there are replicating cells in the body. The cure to cancer would therefore be different for each kind of cancer, and because everybody's body is a little different, it would vary from person to person.

Depending on where the cancer originated, meaning what kind of cell went haywire, you would have to treat that cancer completely differently from another. Liver cells are going to absorb different drugs than skin cells. Also, the location of the cancer would dictate a different approach to treatment. If you find a skin tumor early enough, before it has spread, you can just cut it out of the body. This option is far more limited if the tumor is in the liver or brain. Also, each person is different down to their own DNA, and one kind of drug might be completely toxic to one person, while being completely inert in another. The idea that there is just one miracle drug or process that could take all these factors into account is just ignorant.

I dont believe that they are keeping the cure aways from us, but I do think we could put money into the programs to help find them. Now trusting the Government is a whole diffrent thing. I can't trust people who are covering up killing, and pulling out troups that need to stay there.
