Why do some people believe that if they can they will screw Uncle Sam and not pay taxes? They believe that they should not have to pay taxes for something they don't believe in. They think, Why give the government more money and take away from my family?
But why do we pay taxes in the first place? Well, for a lot of reasons, such as to keep me and my family safe by putting cops on the street. In my opinion, the fact that I can go to sleep every night knowing that I am safe is worth paying taxes. When I drive on paved roads every day to work, I know the roads are paved with tax dollars, as are the street lights that guide me home every night.
So, should people who want to screw over the government go live somewhere where they don't have a government or pay taxes? Or should we take all these people, drop them in the middle of North Dakota, and tell them not to pay taxes and govern themselves? Or do you think sometimes it's legitimate for people to refuse to pay their taxes?

Little do the non-tax payers know about is that most of the stuff they do believe in is coming from tax dollars. Their kids education is coming from teachers paid by tax dollars. Fire fighters that put out fires and save kittens from trees are paid by tax dollars. They may not want to pay for stuff they dont believe in but why don't they pay for the stuff that they do?

I know our money is going toward all givin things that steve said. The people that do bitch about it most likely are taking everything for granted. They think they are getting ripped off by the goverenment becuase taxes are just taken from they. But, think about it, would they, or even you, pay the government out of your pocket they you didn't HAVE to. The roads and everything else around us that we do take for granted(simple luxuries) are all because of taxes. bob burnard
I agree. I believe that everyone who lives in the United States should pay taxes. Just about everything outside of your home is paid for from tax dollar, from everything from roads to city and state workers. The people that dont pay taxes hurt everyone else that pays because the taxes have to be raised to keep paying for all the things the money goes towars. If someone doesnt pay taxes i think that they should not be allowed to use just about everything that tax money goes towards.

I think everone should pay taxes because it goes towards everyday luxuryies that immigrants come here for and thats the american dream where anyone can be successful.Our tax dollars go toward education, social security and medicare and this country everyone can fail and come back to the top again

Not all people just try to "screw" over the gov. What if you had to struggle very hard to pay your taxes, for the police and new construction in the city, and you go home everynight to see the violence in your broken down neighborhood. If people were being killed in your neighborhood would you still feel like paying taxes to pay for the police?
Every American should have to pay taxes. Taxes pay for education, road construction, human resource services, medicare, social security and everything else we take for granted. The tax percentage taken out of pay checks really isn't that high it's around 20% depending on how much you make. But you get so much from that, people really shouldn't complain.

Yes i think taxes should be paid by all with the exception of those handicapped and tax exempt.I think some of the tax laws are in need of reform especially those that allow people making 200,000 or more to end up paying less than the working class.I dont know how to go about getting this done other than having a communist country where everybody is equal and everybody makes the same amount of money to live on.Maybe Obahma can fix it. If you work you pay taxes....if you buy groceries, gas, clothes, tires, cars, homes,etc etc etc, you pay taxes.
The Illinois Lottery was started to fix roads, and help our schools finanically have you seen any difference? I haven't. Illinois has some of the highest taxes, yet some of the worst roads in the United States.
Do I mind paying taxes, no...but when are we going to see some of that money used?
People just need to realize they have to pay taxes and get over it. If they think they can screw the government over it may work for awhile but you will get caught and prolly go to jail.

I cant say I can think of a legitimate reason to not pay taxes. That money does go tward all the things we do enjoy like cops, roads, street lights, hospitals, military personel..things like that. Just because some people dont want to, i dont know anything about North Dakota, i dont think we should kick them out to live somewhere else, but they do need to be punished for avoiding there responibilities to there community and country.
i think that taxes do suck but, you should pay for them, do you like the paved street out in front of your house? do you like being able to call the police or fire departments when you have an emergency? all of those things are paid for by taxes. SO PAY YOUR TAXES!
