Should seatbelts be mandatory, with penalty of law?!

I have been confused by this since the day I first heard of the law being able to punish us for not doing anything wrong. If anyone out there can give me a good explanation on how you can cause damage to anyone else but yourself by not wearing seatbelt, please comment in.
Do you think the seatbelt law is a bad law? Why or why not?

Be confused no more because I shall enlighten you about how you could cause damage to others by not wearing your seatbelt.Picture if you will a four foot high concrete wall and on the otherside of this wall is a playground.I f you hit this wall goin fast enough your unseatbelted body will likeley be propelled through the windshield and slam into some children most likely killing one.and thats how not wearing a seatbelt could hurt or kill others. They should be mandatory

That first blog could happen, I guess, but the children would most likely be hit by sharapnel from the car than your body. Not wearing a seat belt would just be driving at your own risk. If you feel safe enough to not wear one then go for it, be a tough guy but people shouldn't be given tickets if they decide not to be strapped to the seat.

i think that seatbelts are not a bad idea because it does prevent people from getting seriously injured in car accidents but i dont think it should be law because its just taking way another one of our rights

you both have very interesting idea's about how our government is controlling our actions and the ups/downs. i do know for a fact that seatbelts save lives and i wont argue that but in the end its the driver and passengers. Not wearing the seat belt is a game of chance just like smoking or drinking but there is no law against those. the only people i think would benifit are children who often cannot make the that decision for themselves.

I dont believe that it should be a law that you must wear your seatbelt. I personally believe that you should wear your seatbelt, but that was the way i was raised. I know of many people that do not wear their seatbelt and that is their own personal decision.

I would have to go with the first blog. Seat belts should be mandatory because they do actually save lives.

Although we all hate wearing a seatbelt sometimes I think it can help you more than it can hurt. I agree with the fact the goverment is trying to be a big brother to all of us. i also think its into affect to protect other drivers from your decison not to wear a seatbelt.

Wearing a seatbelt is a good thing in my opinion. However I think it should be a personal choice i think that jerrys comment could happen but its very unlikely. SO wearing a seatbelt doesnt hurt others, its only to protect yourself. If you dont want to you shouldnt have to. I usually always buckle up. The thing that gets me is, in my town back in Centralia,IL i have seen police driving around not wearing a seatbelt. The the next day, same cop has someone pulled over and giving them a ticket for it....Sounds like if someone didnt have a Quota they wouldnt care.

If you don't wear your seatbelt and you get in a bad accident, and if your medical expenses cost more than your insurance will cover, it'll be my tax dollars paying for your health care. We're talking big bucks. I love you, dude, but I'd rather my money get spent on something other than keeping your dumb ass alive after you chose not to wear a belt while going 100 mph+ ... so buckle up!

First of all, I cannot for a minute understand why you would not want to protect yourself. When another car hits yours, or God forbid, you hit someone, that little annoying strap will help keep you alive or save you from possible severe injury.

This would not only affect you it would affect your family and friends. Why would you want to worry or hurt them when all you have to do is buckle up?

the only reason i wear my seatbelt is so i wil not get pulled over. if we had the choice i don't know if i would wear it or not. it is bull that they can make it a law. i believe it should be a choice if you want to wear it or not. the only person that you are putting into danger is youself.

i think its your own decision to wear a seat belt. the law is just a gay reason to allow police to pull someone over. its your safety and i think its your choise to live or die.

The seatbelt law is not one to protect other drivers but to protect yourself. The chances of surviving an automobile crash are greatly increased while wearing a seatbelt. In May of 06 my stepfather and I were clipped by a drunk driver and ended up nose diving into a ditch and prevented going through the windshield because our seatbelts were on. That night both me and him walked out of the hospital after that crash. The drunk driver, who had not worn her seatbelt, was badley hurt and barely survived the incident. I have seen many crashes as a EMT and those that wore their seatbelts are the ones that survived the most. The law is not one to punish us, but to encourage us to wear our seatbelts in the case of an accident. Don't be an idiot, just buckle up.

Whats the worst that will happen? the seatbelt saves your life! If giving out tickets helps saves lifes then it should be allowed and if you dont want a ticket put your seatbelt on.

I agree with JERRY on this one. I dont want your shit flying through my windshield.

I believe wearing seatbelts should be a personal choice because you are only hurting yourself if you do not wear it. I do always wear mine but in responce to some of the other responces yes it may save your life but it can also hurt you worse than the accident may have. I knew a person who was in a car wreck in which she had to stop very suddenly and was hit from behind and also hit the car in front, she would have been hurt a little but the seatbelt dug into her chest and sliced a her open pretty good, she did not survive so yes there are ways your seat belt can hurt you but it is very rare.

It shouldn't be a law, it's a form of protection and is a choice whether you want to use it. We don't get a ticket for choosing to to wear a condom. It's a good guideline, but I think it is just a way for the government to pull money out of our pockets. But honestly, it's not a big deal, plug the damn thing in and drive. But if you choose to be a rebel that's your choice.

I don't think it is a bad law. It is keeping you safe and could potentially save your life. What more do you need to know?

I do not like seatbelts. I have 17 tickets for not wearing it. I havent and probally never will. It makes no sence that we have to wear seatbelts but bikes are not required to wear helmets. I have heard of people dying from not wearing them but I know from my experience that I didnt fly out my windshield when I hit a tree. They can be good and bad. If were responsible enough to drive, let us chose to wear them or not without punishment.

i completely agree with this seatbelt law. this law is only trying to protect us! studies have shown that people are more likely to die without a seatbelt. it's very dangerous to drive without one. of course they should be mandatory. this shouldn't even be a question in the least. you wanna die? fine, but i'm not going to take any chances. i definitely think there should be harsher penalties for not wearing a seatbelt and maybe americans will finally understand.

I think that the seat belt law is a good las. the law is there to protect you from getting hurt while using a dangurous machine. It is a safty percaution, just like where goggles while welding to protect your eyes. I also understand why wearing your seat belt can cause you more harm.. i heard oif some cases where someone got into an accedent and if they had been wearing their seat belt, they would have been injurd or killed. I think that it is there for safty and is a good law.

i dont think seatbelts should be mandatory for adults. its there choice. until children/teenagers get there licence they should have to wear there seatbelt and then make there own decision from there. your only hurting yourself by not wearing it. let people make up there own minds.

i dont think that seatbelts should be mandatory b/c it is your own personal choice to wear a seat belt. i can honestly say i dont were a seat belt and i know the consequences nad the risk. so its mine choice.
