Sound Violations

Should our local governments have control over the noise we make?

Most cities have no way of accurately measuring noise levels at a party, your stereo or the exhaust system on your car. Its all done by rule of thumb and they leave the judgement up to officers to say if its too loud or not. That being said, Officer A and B may have 2 completely different opinions on what's loud, and that can be the difference between whether or not you get a ticket and/or a fine.

Should we have these laws?

If so, should they be different for weekends as opposed to week days? or Night and day? When should the laws be applied? Music? Parties? Cars? Motorcycles? Construction zones? Children outside early on weekend mornings when some neighbors are trying to sleep?

Hell yea they should people dont want to hear your loud ass music coming from your car 2 blocks away. Im not saying that if a good song comes on that you cant turn in up some. But there needs to be a line drawn somewhere.

yes there should be and there are ordinances resricting loud music. If the music is so loud that it disturbs the neighbors and they call the cops then that is the definition of too loud and sombodys ass needs a ticket. If the liscense plate is ratteling because the bass is so loud in your car then someones ass needs a ticket. There shouldnt have to be noise laws but since there has been a major breakdown in parenting over the years, especially the part where they teach kids to respect other peoples right to have peaceful enjoyment of their lives. There should be no difference in weather its a night or weekend. What do people think, you can turn the knob up louder and people wont hear it because its a weekend.Noise is Noise and whoever needs music up that loud in order to enjoy it needs to seriously think of having their hearing checked

Normally I would say no, they shouldn't have the right. But unfortunately, people do not know when loud is too loud. For instance leaving school every day I have to listen to someone else's music because it is blaring from their vehicle. I love music that is not the issue, the issue is that I have the right to not hear that music.

Partying is okay, we have all done it but why should your neighbor be subjected to your noise? He has the right to be in his house and listen to whatever he wants to listen to.

If people would respect others than this would not be an issue.

there should be noise laws. that is bull that ohter people will put three 12inch sub woffers with a 1500 watt amp in there trunk. when i am sitting a home peacfuley only to hear some jackass driving down the road with his music so loud it shakes my walls. it should be the same for loud cars. i have been pulled over for my car being to loud, and i thought the officer was right. there is no reason that my car should be that loud. i fealt bad that people could hear me comeing thru the neighberhood. it should be the same for all automobiles and motorcycles.

i think that thre should be laws but to an extent because i dont see any thing wrong with having loud motorcycles or car, or car stereos. but at night when people have to sleep and go to their jobs i think they should be respected. and if people can be up all night partying i think that theres nothing wrong with kids out early playing out side nick warstler.

There should be sound violation laws, but they should be changed. The law should be applied to weeknights for the reason being that many people have to get up early in the morning on week days, but for weekends I say party on and let there be noise. I would also apply this to Harley riders (no offense) because I really don't feel like hearing those rigged up or custom pipes late at night while I'm trying to sleep. I think the tickets should be issued based on how many people call and complain.

i dont know if you have ever heard of sound level meters, but they can measure sound, and cops can use them. loud exhaust can be metered by it. house parties on the other hand is just judgement. but usually its a complaining neighbor that calls the police.

I think there should be sound laws but they need to make them more even. It should not be in the opinion of the police officer because some cops have grudges with some people and dont treat everyone the same. as cops they really shouldnt do that. It also depends on what the sound is, if you have loud music late at night in a quiet neighborhood then yes you should have laws against that, but if u like to wake up early in the morning and mow your lawn or something then people need to quit there bitching.

Sound violations are a good thing. If you don't want a ticket TURN DOWN THE FUCKIN MUSIC! There is nothing worse than pulling up to a stop light and having a lifted Cutlass with 44" rims on it next to you and your mirrors start shaking. If you can get a ticket for no front license plate, then you probably should get one if you are being a dumbass and have the music on full blast.

I agree i ride with my music loud at times and have yet to have a problem with it. I think people should be warned that there music is too loud and if they dont do anything they should get a ticket.

i dont have a problem with any loud music, pipes or any of that shit, but i know, and by reading the blogs now completely understand that alot of people like to bitch about it, i personally dont care if people have their music cranked to the giga watts with there exhaust hacked off at the manifolds. but i guess thats what happens when u like to party.

Im totally against the laws off sound violations. Having a stereo system in your car that can knock pictures off your walls when you pull up in your own driveway is considered badass some people. It is a way to be different or let some anger out. Even When im working in my garage the stereo is cranked to max and the knob is ripped off. Cops shouldn't be able to give some one a ticket without others complaining about the noise. Everybody just needs to grow up and start bitching about gas prices again.

The laws that we have for sound violations seem fine with me. The only reason that someone should be in trouble for it should be if they are beligerantly being dissruptive. People like to have parties and play music loud, have loud cars and trucks. Im a big fan of all that stuff. Its about respect. If you cant respect the others around you who might be sleeping at 3am, or the old lady who dosnt want to hear "Fuck the police" at the stop light, then you are just drawing attention to yourself and deserve it.

No it shouldn't be in control over music, it should be about public respect. I have 2 12" Subs on an 800 watt amp and I like blaring it. If I end up at a stop light I turn it down, my music is quite offensive. If I'm out past the legal curfew of others, I turn it down a little. People should be able to handle someone driving by with loud music, it takes like 3 seconds. I've pulled up next to officers with my loud music and sometimes they look at me and signal to turn it down a notch, and other times they bob their head. So cops shouldn't be able to crack down on it. I honestly have no opinion on party music. If you have an understanding with your neighbors then you should play it at a respectful level for them. Basically be respectful.

I do think that there should be some type of sound violation law, for the simple fact that I live on campus on the first floor and the kids above me party super hard, sometimes on the weekdays when I have to get up for class and it gets rediculous. If people would have the common courtesy to keep noise down, there would be no need for laws. But alot of people are assholes and don't care about those around them and want to make all the noise they can.

Yes, i think maybe that there should be laws against violations of sound, but where should the line be drawn? I have seen officers pull plenty of my friends over for having to loud of an exhaust or too loud of music. Then they give them a ticket, but for what. What exactly is too loud. Just because 1 officer thinks it's too loud is it? If there are plenty of people complaining about any noise, then yes it should be handled.

The amount of noise you are allowed to make should be based off of common courtesy. I agree that there really is no way to measure the amount of noise but there are neighborhood codes and regulations that state what amount of noise is acceptable. There should be certain hours when noise should not be able to be heard from next door and those hours should be decided upon by the neighborhood as a whole.

I think there should be some regulations on the loudness of music. I hate when i am trying to sleep and my neighbor is blaring their music. I have a 3 year old little brother and love him to death, but i also love my sleep, and when he is up my whole house is up. I do think some cops have bad judgement on what is too loud or not based on whether they like the people or not.

i understand the idea of having a noise ordinance, especially if your living in an apartment building. i dont think there should be a noise ordinance on car exhausts. thats stupid. i think writiing a ticket for noise ordinance is stupid. whats the point. people will play there music as loud as they want eithor way.

I feel that there should be sound violation laws but they should be changed from how they are now. Some officers may not like how loud something is so they go and give a ticket based on their opinion. I feel that some tickets should be given when other people make multiple complaints about something. If more than one or two people have complained about a noise from quite a distance away then something should be done, but when someone is given a violation just based on one officers or just one persons opinion then i believe that is just pointless.

to an extent i think that the local arm emforcement shoulk dhave some say in the sound levels. if you really think about it... it can come down toi the way you interacte with the police, if you are nice to them and go along with it you will be ok. I dont know how many times i have been busted with loud music at one of our ford asset party's. and we were cool with them and everything and they jsut told us to turn it down and thanks us for going along with it
