How do you feel about Barack Obama being our next president?
Do you think President-Elect Obama would have won the election if he were a white guy?
Do you think that a large percentage of African-American voters would have voted for Obama in the election if he were white?
Or do you believe that some people voted for him just because of race?
(P.S. I'm not trying to start a racial issue here--I just would like to hear other opinions on this.)

I think that a large amount of people did vote for him just because of his race. I don't really follow the debates and what not, but my thoughts on him winning is that the Black population wanted him in there. But, hey, you never know--he might suck or he might be good.

There most likely was a large group of Black people who had an effect on him winning. It also had to have had a little push by the general public thinking they need a black president. Once people heard he was getting somewhere, they started rooting for him.

I think it was a horrible idea because i really don't agree with some of the changes he wants to make. Yes, he would have been elected if he were white. No, I don't think African Americans would vote for him if he were white.
First of all, I think if Barack Obama was white McCain would have had no chance at winning, even though he already got killed in the election in electoral votes. Although Obama only had like 51% of the votes from voters the electoral college are the one that chose barack as the best man for the job and next leader in chief. You can always say there was a large black population that voted for Obama but there were a lot of Black people who voted against him too. I think for Black people voting for barack, the fact that he was Black was another reason they chose to vote for him but not the sole reason they voted for him.

I think any man white or black would have won over McCain especially the way the past 8 years have been.If he comes through on even half of his campaign promises i think it will benefit the working class man.I do believe that if he makes it too tough on the rich white people in high places he will be assasinated.I think the C.I.A. has a black man in a basement somewhere right now where they are brainwashing him to do the job. That way they can say a black man killed him when they need to.
i have no problem with our next president. i would not care what color he is our if a man of women. if you can really do that much work and get that many people to trust and back you power to you. there is no way a dumb person can get that far. with all the travling, campaining, and speaches is not easy for anyone. if you want to go thru all of that for all that power, go for it. ther is no way i could ever do it. you have to be nice to everyone and take all the blame when things go wrong. so like i said ealier i don't care if it is a man women, or race power to them.
I beleive that people need to quit complaining and give the man a chance. If you listen to some of the people around the school or just around town they are already condeming him to be a horrible president just because he is black, and if you ask most of these people if they watched the debates or any of the campaign they havent. they are just writing him off because he is not the same race. personally to me that is wrong they should shut up and see how his actions speak for him. If he fucks things up, if you can fuck them up more than what busch did, then they can say something but in reality no one knows what he will do or if he will help or not.
Yes i do think black people voted for him because he is black but what does that matter, he was also voted on by white people. It is not the peoples votes that really count anyways it is the electoral votes that matter and if you look I bet the majority of them are white. So with that said i do beleive he would have been elected whether he was white or black

it is such a big deal to have the first black president in the office that blacks that want rights would have been stupid to not vote for him, so i think that the majority did vote in his favor for that reason.
Our economy is so fucked up right now that change is necessary. Who cares if black people wouldn't have voted if he were white, we need a change and what better time than now?

I find your question offensive and barbaric. It makes no difference whether Obama is black or white. He has addressed a lot of issues that we need to have addressed.
He has a very hard task in front of him. Bringing the United States out of this recession and providing badly needed jobs is not going to be an easy thing to accomplish. And guess who got us into this mess? President Bush who by the way is white.
What makes the difference on whether African Americans would have voted for him if he was white? He won by a land slide of electoral votes, it took a lot of people, black, white, green, purple and yellow to get him in office. It does not matter what color you are or whether you are fat or thin, what color your hair is. All people are created equal.
i think that obama can do allot for this country, im glad he was elected president and i cant wait to see what he has in store for this country, as long as bush is out thats all that matters

I feel obama got elected because he was black. I feel people who never have cared about who the president was before came out of the woodwork and voted for him because they are the same race. If he was white he would have lost. I think Jerry Reinstorf is right about the CIA going to have him killed though.

I think it is great that he is our president!!!!!! There is going to be so much change and so much hope with him as our president. Of course there was a higher percentage of black voters, people vote for someone they can relate to. But he didn't win just because black people went out to vote. The margin was so crazy. I voted for him because he is about change and hope and partly because he is black. Sorry to say, btu we need something to look at other than an old, white haired, white man. Time for a change people!!!
I feel very well about Obama being our next president. And if he still made the arguments he made as a white guy then he would have won, but not by so much. Obama definitely grabbed a lot of black votes for his race. But his race also neglected him quite a few votes as well. Also McCain's campaign management took the wrong route to try to win. Palin was a bad choice. Choosing to neglect the issues and attack Obama was a bad choice. Spending $150,000 on some damn clothes and make-up was a bad choice. His race did spark an interest in many many voters this election. Because he was an african american on the big ticket a lot of people actually listened in on the issues, and paid attention to what was really happening. This created a better vote. People made judgements based of what they heard. I've asked people why they voted for Obama, some reasons where that he was black yes, but majority of people could actually tell me the issues, and recite Obama's plan to fix them. So he would have won...solely on the fact that he has a different vision than the 8 year reign of Bush's administration.
I didnt vote, I havent since ive been able to. I dont know any stats on African-American voteing this election. Yes I think he still would have won if he was white and I dont think it would have mattered to Blacks it he was white. I do think it helped him being black, but i dont think that is the only reason why he did.
pam you really need to read the blog it was in no way offensive or barbaric just a few simple questions im not making this a racial issue i even stated that on the original post you flipped for no reason!
I dont care much for politics so it doesnt really concern me to much as who becomes the next president, but i do feel that just because someone one that people should think they won just because who they are. There were many people that may have voted for Obama just becuase of his race and i feel that people shouldnt vote for someone because of race, but more for what their campaign is towards and what they will try to achieve as the next president.
i dont like a president that will not tell me where they are born or same the pledge the alliegence to the flag. i voted ofr mcain and i aint saying no more.
I feel he does not no what he has gotten him self in.
