The Speed Limit

I have gotten two tickets since I have been driving--one was a speeding ticket when it wasn't me who was speeding. Although I was able to take traffic school so these tickets would not affect my insurance payments, I have to worry about speeding for the next year because any more violations will go on my record.
What does everyone think of the fact that Illnois is trying to cut down on speeders on the highway by sending tickets in the mail or even tracking your average speed from toll both to the next toll both? Nearly everyone speeds sometimes, and many people speed all the time, so doesn't that mean most people think it's okay to speed, at least in some cases? This being the case, should speeding laws be made tougher or lighter in your opinion?

I think it's great that they are trying to cut back speeders on the highways. But I think it's bull shit that they send the tickets in the mail because the problem with that is, say the post office lost this ticket and you never recieved it, that means when it comes time to pay, the cops will be coming after you and suspending your license. To add to it, the monitoring from toll booth to toll booth is not really accurate from my point of view.

What is everyones need to speed all the time, there is no need for that. If you plan ahead, it gives yourself extra time to get where you are going and drive the speed limit you wouldnt get speeding tickets. If people would slow down and drive smarter then police wouldn't need to be cracking down on us so hard. Take the time and slow done. It ain't rocket science!

I think the speed limit laws are ok like they are.Why do you only think you have to worry about speeding for a year,do you have a majic cloak that will make you invisible all the rest of the time you drive.A speed limit is a law and if you break the law there are consequences to be paid. And if your ticket gets lost in the mail so what, you wouldnt have to worry about it if you wasnt speeding. You can tell which people think its ok to speed they are the ones with all the tickets or worse they are riding the bus.

If it wasn't you speeding then who was driving? I am a bit confused. We have speed limits for a reason. That reason is to keep people safe. The higher rate of speed you go the more likely you are to kill or be killed.

I am not worried about Illinois sending me a ticket in the mail or tracking my average speed because I do not speed. I allow myself enough time to get where I need to go at the posted mph.

Breaking a law is breaking a law.

iagree that timeing people form on place to another is a crock. if they want to cut down on speeders tell them to get off ther lazy ass and go out and clock some people. there are some people who speed everywhere they go. those are the kind of people that need to get caught and loose there car. if you can't go the speed limit and follow the law you should end up with a fine. for the rest of us we should not have to worry about it. in my opinion the less i have to deal with cops the better off i am.

i think that there is nothing wrong with the laws it just depends on what kind of mood the police officer is in when he stops you.

Speeding is one of those inexcusable penalties. Oh I didn't know I was speeding. Ya Bullshit, everyone knows that they are speeding. I think that speeding tickets are a good thing, it helps to cut down on the dumbass drivers that pass you in the right lane doing 120mph on the highway. How is this not a major penalty?

I think the speed limit is a good thing but they should not be able to catch you on camera and send you tickets in the mail. Just because it is your car does not mean you are the one driving it. I know I speed pretty much wherever i go but if they want to catch me doing it, it should be a real cop pulling me over to write me the ticket because like i said how do they know if the registerd owner of the car is driving it or not?

Here's the thing about speed limits. They are there for a reason, whethers its driveways off the road, schools nearby, or maybe a lot of cars on the road they are there to protect you. In case you never knew this little fact, street limits are set to work with the stop lights. Timing is set on most of them to allow drivers to smoothly move down the streets and prevent buildup of traffic from one light to another. Try driving the speed limit and see how much shorter of time you have to wait from one red light to another. Besides there is no point in driving fast to get to to red light. As for the speeding tickets in the mail, you do not have to worry about them if youre not speeding. As for people thinking it is okay to speed, there is a time and a place to go faster than the posted speed limit. In a commercial or residential street, no, go the speed limit. If you are on the highway and other cars are zooming around you and you feel uncomfortable, then yes, I believe in this case it would be all right to increase your speed to prevent an accident because it is more of a liability to have one car going 65 while everyone else is going 75.

Speeding in town and speeding on the highways are two different experiences. In town it's a lot more dangerous because of other cars, residential areas with free roaming people, street signs, skinny roads, houses, tracks, cats, dogs, stop lights, concrete barriers, fences... sapeeding isn't safe in town at all. On the highway, much different. In execption to holidays, the highways are pretty clear. There really isn't a reason to be cracking down on highway speeders. Highway construction of course deserves consequence. Actually, they should put the high spped limit at 75 and then see who speeds... if people are still going 20 miles over the limit then maybe we can talk cracking down.

I did get a speeding ticket recently for going 6 miles over speed limit. I do think laws on speeding are pretty tough, but you know, a law is a law, and laws must be followed. Speeding can kill, and people need to stop speeding. I learned in traffic school that speeding actually doesn't increase how fast you get somewhere. Its something like every 10 mph over you are, cuts like 12 seconds off your time. So why is it hard to follow the speed limit?

I don't like the idea of getting a ticket in the mail when you weren't pulled over in person by a real officer. I think the law should still have to catch you in the act. One of my friends was sent a ticket in the mail with a picture taken by a stoplight and it was hard to tell which family member was driving the vehicle that day. How are they supposed to know who was driving? It was sent to the parents because they owned the vehicle. If they were pulled over by a police officer, the ticket would have gone to the driver. But, I have noticed that the average speed on the interstate is slower than usual, so the tickets must be effective.

I think that we have a speed limit so that people will have some kind of guideline to follow. It would be chaos if everyone drove how they wanted to. I see the speed limit as something you should be around but you dont have to be exact on. If you are a few miles per hour over, then you are doing nothing wrong. If you are even ten miles per hour over i dont see that as being a big deal on the interstate. I do think that Illinois police officers are trying to keep the roads safer by cracking down. I think that Illinois law is fine right where it is. I dont want it to be any stricter or lighter then it already is.

i dont see a problem with tracking speed between toll booths. You know the speed on the highway and you know the effects of speeding between the booths. So thats simple dont do it. The camera taking pictures of a car running a red light is kind of crappy but, it is the law, and you should follow it. And im not saying im not a speeder i have had a ticket before. some people are horible drivers and dont even need to be going 65 down the highway. So all in all i say if your going to speed be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out for the boys in blue before they spot you.

i think in town the fuzz should be stricter on the speed limit than on the highways or interstates. i think speeding cameras and red light cameras are stupid. if they dont see you do it first hand how can they justify writing you a ticket. another factor should be wheather conditions. if its dry out an sunny let em speed. if its snowing and icy slow down. it only is common sense.

I do believe that many speeders should be stopped. I know there some times when you feel that you should go just a little faster because of an important event, but that does not mean that you should go like 20mph or more over the posted speed limit. I do believe that if you are going that fast you should be stopped and given a ticket. Many of the drivers that speed do not care about most of the other on the road they just care about getting where they are going. I feel that they may not need to be sending out tickets in the mail or even tracking your speed between tolls. If they care that much about speeding they should have a greater presence of cops on the roads to show that they are cracking down more on speeding.

thier should be a vote in every town to see wether the law of speeding should be thougher or lighter.
