What is your opinion on the smoking fifteen feet from any building entrance? I can understand around parks or family places but, what is wrong with people smoking in a shop or where there aren't that many people around?

i am a smoker, i can actually understand the reasons behind the smoking ban..i mean come on, who wants smoke blown in their face while you are enjoying a nice meal?
other than the above statement, the rest of the no-smoking law is crap. if you are in a bar or a shop, you should expected there to be smoking..so quit your bitching.

I like the law because second hand smoke is worst than first hand. I feel if I was to die from second hand smoke I mind as well start smoking know. It's nice to be able to go to the bar and and not have all that smoke around you. It is a right of every person to be able to breathe fresh air.

I find nothing wrong with smoking in or around buildings. I understand that people should be respected if they do not want to be smoked around. But i beleive iut should be up to the owner of the building weather smoking will be permited or not, or have certain smoking sections.bob burnard
I think that smoking fifteen feet from an entrance is a good idea, but I dont think it should be banned and I think in the shop is ok.

I believe that it should be up to the owner of the property on whether or not that smoking should be allowed. I believe that there are some more family-oriented places, such as high end resturants, that smoking should not be allowed, but there are other places that are more relaxed and most people didnt have a problem with people smoking there before the ban was put into effect.

i agree that smoking in resturants is going to far but smokers are already forced outside in the cold and in chicago smoking is banned on the beach and in the parks. I think by letting the government make these small changes from year to year they are slowly forcing us into a lifestyle that may not want to be a part of. if a person makes a concious decision to do that to themselves the least we can do is cut them a little slack

I am a smoker and i understand where the non- smokers are coming from.The fifteen feet rule seems fair to me.As does no smoking in public places with the exception of bars.I mean come on man your in a bar trashing your liver and your gonna worry about a little second hand smoke.I dont think smoking should be allowed in an auto shop even though I spend a lot of time in one.I think its too much of a fire risk and Id kill someone if I went to pick up my Beemer and there was a burn hole in the seat that wasnt there before

I completley agree with the smoking ban as far as restricting smoking inside of buildings. I don't think that those who choose not to smoke should have to be exposed to second hand smoke when going out to a bar or resturant. However I don't agree with the 15 feet away from a building rule. If we are making the smoker step outside, they should just have to step outside not move downt the street. Take green street for instance, the entire street is lined with bars and resturants so in order to follow the law smokers would have to smoke in the middle of the street.

I do not have a problem with smoking fifteen feet from any building entrance. Non-smokers have the right to stay clear of my nasty habit.
However, I do have a problem with non-smokers making snide remarks when they walk into an area filled with smokers. You don't want to be around it then stay away.
The problem with smoking in a shop is because non-smokers will be walking into that shop at some time or another and smoking stinks. Plain and simple. Plus it is now against the law.
Personaly i think there is good and bad to the smoking ban. I can see it being in a good thing in family resturants and places like that but i think smoking bans in bars and in private work places is a bunch of bull shit. If you dont expect to go in a bar and it be smokey then dont go in. Even non smokers like to have a smoke every now and then when they are drinking and im sure some of the people that were for the ban did do just that. when they were in the bar im sure at some point in the night they bummed a smoke and smoked it. As for work places like a shop, i understand there can be dangers in smoking in a shop but you just use common sense but how are you harming other people if you are smoking in your work area. Customers are not suppose to be in your work area anyways.
i smoke and understand what they are trying to do. the less people are exposed to smoke the better off they are. there has never been a study showing that smoke has ever brought anything good. it is much better walking into a bar and not hitting a wall of smoke. the next day you smell better and do not have a bad cough. some day it will be banned everywhere it is just a matter of time. I am for the smoking ban to a certain exstent. I believe smoking should be allowed, except in restaurants and theatres becuase no one wants to smell smoke from other peoples cigarettes while trying to enjoy a meal.

why should my health be risked because some guy wants to chain smoke in the bowling alley. it is so much nicer when you can leave a bar and not be able to smell that you have been there. im completely for the ban, i think it was a great idea.

I believe that the ban was a good idea. Why should I have to pay for someone else's bad habits? How much work is it to stand 15 feet away from a door? Honestly. It is nice to go into a bar or anyplace for that matter and not have to deal with all the smoke from all the other patrons.

I think that the smoking ban is perfect. You shouldnt be aloud to smoke near people in a public place it doesnt matter if there isnt that many people around. It causes health problems that non-smokers avoid by not smoking and if they are around people that smoke then they are still exposed to these health risks and they shouldnt have to be.
I can agree with part of the smoking ban. People that dont smoke want to enjoy their meal in a nice restaurant without smoke being blown in there face, and thats fine. But outside of there the govrnment should not try and regulate where people smoke. Smoking doesnt bother me. I was raised around it and dont really give a shit.

I think that smoking should be allowed in some bars but when i am out to eat i dont want to smell that shit.

I don't think smoking should have been taken out of bars or pool halls, but working in a restaraunt, I'm glad it is out of there. I'm not a smoker, and being around the smoke makes me sick and not feel good, so I'm glad it was taken out of places like that. But bars and things like that, it was fine there.
If there is anyone around who is opposed to having smoke blown in their face people should be considerate. Which is what the ban is doing. You don't know when someone is going to be in your shop, or walking into the store or restaurant. While you may want to put these toxins in your body, not everyone wants the unfiltered toxins put in theirs. So it's best to put a standard across the board, 15 feet away from where people will be entering and exiting. The no public smoking law is a wonderful thing, don't like it, move to Indy.
I dont smoke but I think its stupid that people cant smoke in bars or sports bars. Those are about the only places that dont make sence to me. If you go to a bar, most people expect smoking, drinking and swearing. Why would someone subject there kids to that. Bowling alleys, restaurants and other family places where children could be around, those places should keep the smoke outside laws.
I don't smoke, and when I'm in a crowded room with lots of people who smoke, it makes my head hurt. I for one am glad that it is illegal to smoke in Illinois businesses now. I think it will get to the point where the younger generation doesn't know any other way, and it will be natural to step outside to have a smoke. As for being 15 feet from the building, I think that's just a certain number that was set so people wouldn't be a smart-aleck and stand in front of an open doorway. I also think that would be hard to enforce unless there are lines on the ground!
i can't stand smokers. it's unhealthy. why would you want to shorten your life? but whatever. i hate having to breath in smoke even if only for a second. it makes it hard to breathe for me. i'm all for it being banned everywhere. i completely agree with the smoking ban. it benefits way more people this way.
As a non-smoker i hate it when i eat around someone who is smoking. I understand why the ban is in place for restaurants, but anywhere else i dont really mind it. I think the ban is a good thing though. I havent really been around a lot of smokers and i think thats why dont mind it.

Yea i also agree with the smoking ban to a point. I dont want to go out to dinner at a nice resturant and have smoke blown in my face by people around me. Although, i do not think that the goverment should be able to tell business owners and bar keepers that people cannot smoke in there establishment. I think it should be the choice of the business. The people owning the business understand the pros and cons to having a ban in the buildings and should be able to determine themselves if they want a ban or not.
i think that it is perfectly acceptable to not smoke around entrances and hostpals and shit tlike that. but for it to be in a shop is just stupid.
well it pervents the smell from getting in the building.
