How far is too far?

In the days of our grandparents, people with tattoos were something of an oddity. Today, men with piercing and women with tattoos are not really that big of a deal. A new subculture has arisen, one far more extreme than has ever been seen. Gauges and other odd piercings, subdermal implants, and in some extreme cases amputation of certain limbs. What do you think is going on? Are people going crazy or should people be allowed to truly do what they want with their bodies?

Thanks!

People have the right to be who they want to be. But, I believe that people that go to the extreme in body piercings, subdermal implants and amputation are screaming for help. Somewhere along the line they were neglected or made to feel badly about themselves. So they do whatever they can to get people to notice them. When people point and stare it gives them gratification somehow and so they do more and more and more. Again I am talking about the extreme cases, like the one shown in the picture with this blogg. He needs help.

Yea i dont mind some tats or a few piercings but wtf is that guy doing? does he really think that he looks good like that? People that do this kind of thing to themselves are crying out for attention from others. Let me tell you your not gunna get much attetion looking like that.

It is a fact that we all just have to face there are crazy people in this world!! I agree and feel that the guy in the picture needs some attention and that is the wrong way to get it but it might be other reasons to. I have a friend who gets a tatoo everytime he feels depressed. He told me that he likes the feeling of the pain and it just helps relaxes him. Honestly i rather him get a tat rather then cut himself or try to commit suicide. So who really knows the real reason why people do things, I just say we all pray!!

Well you stumped me man. Now i have a tatoo but i have it because it is a memorial tatoo. I dont have a problem with people piercing only god knows what, but it does make me think lower of them. Now amputating a limb that is somthing that should not be alowed. and why the fuck would you want to do that. God only gives you one and trust me there are alot of people out there that would love to have all of their limbs.

I think that society is loosening up when it comes to excepting people who express themselves. I think strict religious views stopped our grandparents from expressing themselves in the way of body piercings and tattos. I think that if people want to do this to there body for attention then they should be able to. Im not going to stop them.

Let them be how they want to be. As long as they don't get irrational when people look at them oddly. It is odd to me why people can't just accept themselves the way they are.
It may just be a phase of our time like heavy drugs in the 70's. Maybe they want the attention. Maybe they have friends in a big city and the only way they'll ever find eachother when walking down a main street is to have earlobes down to your shoulders, JK, but whatever the case, let them do what they want.

This is the land of the free, and our bodies are ours. We can do whatever we want with them. I think amputation is a bit severe but hey if that's what you're into..

We have a freedom of choice and people are just doing what they want, what's wrong with it? This is only going to get more popular.

i do believe that people can do whatever they want to their body. it's theirs and i have no say in the situation. i am a firm believer in that whole "God created me for what i am and I'm not gonna change that" saying. i have vowed to myself never to have plastic surgery because i think i should be ok with myself. i do want to get another piercing on my ear and maybe a small tattoo in the near future. i think those things are harmless, but taking things too far, i find quite unattractive.

If people wanna go around looking like an ousted member of a defunct clan of the ZuLu nation I say let them.I pitty them tho because they obviously lack the intelligence or social skills that they need, to express their diversity in a way that is more socially acceptable.I also think they must hate their mom and dad. When people start getting implants, crazy face tats and other extreme forms of self expression,I think there should be a law requiring them to change their last names so as to save their parents/relatives embarassment.

I think there is a limit to everything you do. But i am not about to go tell anyone what that limit it. I believe it is your body. go nuts. I would never do anything like that, and sure, if i saw that guy on the street, im gonna give him a double take. i know alot of people that have a ton of tattoos and a ton of piercings. One of my best friends is loaded. So i don't look down on it. And there isn't always an explanation for getting things like that done, except for they like the way it looks. I am not talking about getting limbs amputated and such. That i don't feel is right.

Wow, that picture was definitely scary, but people should have the right to do with their bodies as they like. I'm not for that extreme behavior, there must be something else going on in those people's minds to put themselves through that.
My tattoo means something to me and I hope that when others get peirced, inked or whatever they're doing they have thought about it and it means something. I understand maybe a rebellious act or two and trying to get some attention but subdermal implants and amputation seems a little out there. Also, in the end, I'm the one having to look at them, so why not respect others eyes as well as your own?

people are given one life 2 live & if they choose 2 express themselves in a wild any crazy way I can't say anything about it that's their buisness, but on the other hand, they need 2 think about geting old & having their bodies already stretched out with self made things made for decorating their bodies to another level besides tattoes, earlobe, nose & lip piercings. those things might not be the thing to do if you realy care about your appearance on earth as a human being... classmate T ware

I have no problem with people getting tattoos and piercings, I mean it's their body and they should be able to do whatever they want with their body. But, there should be a limitation to how far it goes, like the picture on this blogg. When stuff like Gauges and other odd piercings, subdermal implants, and in some extreme cases amputation of certain limbs should be stopped.

people are trying to break the mold of the "ideal culture" that has been set as the standard for the way they should act in society by their parents and grandparents, which has resulted in seperation from this "ideal" image. i don't think that people are going crazy as you put it but, they may be taking it a little to far when they start to amputate limbs.

I think that some people are definitely taking tattoos and piercings too far in this day of age. Personally I think that ear piercings and belly button piercings are ok and actually look cute, I suppose facial piercing are not that bad when you only have ONE on the face but I personally would never get a piercing on my face. I also would never get a tattoo, but like piercings I think small tattoos are ok when you only have one or two (especially when they have a significant meaning, such as a memorial for a friend or family member who has past away) but when people start getting more then 5 that is just gross and ruining your body. I certainly think that the people who go to the extreme cases with piercings and tattoos are crazy and just asking for attention. They are disgusting to look at and seriously ruining their bodies, obviously they have to know that it is not cute nor attractive; they are making themselves a freak show.

I think you should be allowed to do whatever you want to your body. I think tatoo's and piercings are beautiful to a certain point... Myself i have 7 piercings and i gaged my ears. Now i'm not sayin that i would ever want to go as far as that guy in the pic, i'm happy with the way i look, and i don't need to change anything else. In some cases, i do think people go to the extreme, but sometimes they cant help it, when u get a piercing or a tatoo u get this rush of endorphines which can become addicting. Now amputating a limb, i think thats just crazy, i would never do that, and i don't see why you would ever want to do that to yourself.

the public may have other things to say about it still, but the world is so "politicaly correct" now-a-days that people can do whatever they want to there body and noone will say anything, which is how it should be since its your body.

let people do what they want. if we start telling people what they can or cannot have peirced or inked in their skin it will turn into how you dress or cut your hair. by putting limitations on what people can look like you are helping turn us into a nation of BLANK AMERICANS i encourage people to be different or you will turn out to be D Bag

This is a little hard to answer because while I think that people should be able to do whatever they want with their bodies, disfiguring yourself is disgusting. I wonder how someone with tattoos all over their face will feel someday when their grandkid asks them why they got it? I think people that do those things are only focusing on how they feel now and being their own person, doing whatever they want because they can. Maybe they're trying to shock the older generation. For whatever reason, they aren't really thinking about their future. I don't know how much of it has to do with their own self-consciousness, because people who are down on themselves are not always going to try to draw attention to themselves. I don't judge people with tattoos or piercings, but sometimes I do wonder what the real reason is that people get them or go to extremes with them.

People are going to do what they want. If they want to change their body then so be it. i dont think you should worry about what other people do with their own body.

I don't believe that any of these body alterations should ever be made illegal. People should be allowed to do whatever they want to do to their bodies. Do I think these people are crazy? Definitely. What person in their right mind wants horns coming out of their head? What kind of job are you going to get with those? Things are getting way extreme but if looking like that’s going to bring you joy and fulfillment, I am not going to stop you.

I think people have the right to do whatever they want to do with there body. Many people think of it as artwork they are doing to their body. Some others do it for attention, but whatever the case they should have the right to do whatever they want to with their body. I do people can take it too far by getting every inch of their body tattooed or getting horn implants or something along those lines, but again that is their choice.

People have the right to alter their bodies in whatever why they wish. Extreme piercing, amputations, large gauges and whatever else should never be made illegal. Do I think the people in the images are crazy? Yes, who in their right mind would choose to look like that but if that's what they wish then let it be.

i think people do it for attention. i dont see a problem with tattoos, but some piecings are fucked up and wierd. as long as people keep talking about them they will keep doing odd stuff.
