Is hunting wrong?

Is hunting ethical or unethical? Why do you think so? What about people who only hunt for sport and not for food? If you are a hunter, please explain your reasons for hunting. If you're not a hunter, why aren't you? Are you against it? Do you think others shouldn't hunt or is it just a personal preference for you?

Thanks for taking the time to give me your input!

I think that hunting is unethical unless people are hunting for food. I just don’t see the point in killing animals unless you need to meat to survive. I’m not saying that I hate when animals get killed for their fur or if someone enjoys eating deer meat so they hunt deer occasionally. I just don’t see the point in hunting every weekend for sport like many people do. I am not a hunter, and I don’t think I would ever be able to go out and try to kill an animal just for the fun of it. I don’t care if people go out and hunt, but I do think that there should be more restrictions on where they can hunt, and how often they can go hunting. I hate hearing gunshots less than a mile from my dad’s house because some morons see some deer running around in a small wooded area that is less than 2 acres big.

I believe hunting is somewhat ok. Although sometimes people hunt for show, people also hunt for food which I think is perfectly fine. People that hunt for a sport and not for a food must like the thrill of shooting a gun. I, myself, am not a hunter, and have never hunted. I have shot a gun similar to one that people hunt with, and it literally took my breath away with the force driving back into my shoulder. I believe that I am not a hunter because honestly is really does not run in my family. We are not big hunters and never have been, although we do have a pheasant hanging in our living room of our lake house. I am not against hunting at all and I do not despise of people that do hunt. I believe people that are irresponsible should not be allowed to hunt. I also think that a hunting license should be renewed every year, as well. And I believe there should be some type of limit to the number of animals killed by a single person. By doing this, it would keep a restriction on hunters, and help keep our animals from being endangered.

I think that hunting is unethical. In the past hunting was used for survival, they had to eat, but when people are hunting just for sport it is not okay. I am against hunting for many reasons. There are plenty of other activites to participate in that do not involve killing innocent animals who have no defense. If you do not need to eat the animal in order to survive, there should not be any reason for you to be hunting. I am against hunting completely, it doesn't seem fair that first we destroy the animals land and their food sources so that we can have roads and places to shop and then on top of that we kill them just because it's fun.

I am not a hunter, nor have I ever hunted. If someone is hunting for food I don't think it's unethical. What is unethical is when it is turned into a sport. I know there are limits as to how many deer one hunter can kill in a season and I'm glad it's that way. There are some hunters that would gladly kill as many deer as possible. I know in this area they say deer hunting is necessary to reduce the population. That may be true and if so, again, at least there are limits as to how many can be killed. I definitely don't think hunting should be a sport. The animals are defenseless. Animals are part of the life cycle as well as human beings.

well, I think that hunting animals is ok. Although I don't think that killing animals is right if your not doing it for the meat. I am a deer hunter and most of my family hunts. I have been hunting since I was ten and I can't recall anytime we haven't eaten what we have killed. I do hunt for a sport but also for food. I'm not really a meat person but my family eats it. I maily do it for a sport, it is a big adriniline rush and is fun. Its not like im going to go out and start shooting people, because I have been taught that is not what guns are used for, but it is fun getting to shoot things and the achomplishment that it is to actually get something. Althought I don't understand when people who are against hunting but eat meat. How do they think the chicken that they eat for dinner got to the grocery store?? Meat eaters really can't say their against hunting, because in some since they are just having someone hunt their food for them. I understand theirs some people who just can't handle the actual shooting of a aminal which is fine, but when you are having someone do it for you and say your against it is a different thing.

If your just hunting for fun and yor not going to eat it than it is unethical. But if you hunting and you are going to eat it than that is ethical. I am not a hunter but the people I talke to they do it for the sport of it. They also say that wild meat has a different taste than tamed meat. I don't hunt because I don't have to and it is dangerous and I really do not like cleaning the thing just to eat it. Am not against it if you do it and plan on eating it. If your just doing it fun than yes I am against it. I think it is a personal preference. Some people like and I am one of those that don't I ever do it.

I believe the reason why pepole hunt is becuase it makes oyu feel like you are alive and are not living a dull life. Back when pepole used to hunt they hunted for food and it was a passing into manhood (not saying that girls can hunt) but back then only men hunted becuase that what it was like back then. I'm not a hunter becuase i came from a porr family that didn't own a shotgun or went hunting becuase it just cost money to buy the gun, get the permit, and to drive out to the middle of nowhere just to onle see a doe. I think that if you want to go hunting then just try it out and if is not for you then don't go hunting.

Hunters are one of the main reasons there is still animals around. Hunters for groups that help the wildlife by planting and doing reasearch to see what can be done to better the wildlife. It is stupid for antihunters to say that we are killing the wildlife. What are they doing? Nothing at all. Hunters are the ones doing the work to help preserve wildlife.

I never hunted in my life but I would like to because not only is it helping the wildlife and giving us food, it lets you be out in the fresh air with nature and people can relax and forget about thier worries. I live out in the middle of nowhere where in the mornings I can wake up and see deer outside and sometimes if your not careful, they can come into your house. I think these antihunters are like the people who think eating meat is bad but they do it anyway. Those antihunters want something to complan about.

I do strongly belive in hunting. If you dont hunt you will have a wildlife over population. You will have deer running wild and tons of accidents not to mention all of the good meat and food we all get from hunters. its not even just about that kind of stuff, its been the way of life forever.

Hunting is not the reason why animals become endangered. I think that if hunting was stopped there would be more accidents involving people and animals. People have done research on how animals live and they have figured out that most habitats can not support all of the animals. There will always be people that voice thier concerns about things that they have no clue about. so those people just need to shut up and talk about things that they know for sure.

They say alcohol and drugs are the leading causes of death in car accidents, but if there wasn't hunting, overpopulation would be the leading cause of death for sure. Hunting helps balance out the amount of animals making it a more stable ecosystem. Even with hunting being legal, there are millions of car accidents a year caused by deer. Just think if it wasn't legal!

Hunters play an important role in the frickin circle of life. If their weren't hunters, than habitat and food would grow scarce and their wouldnt be enough for all the animals. People think it's cruel because nowadays it's held for a sport. I figure if it's helping out the environment and maintaining animal populations, why the hell not make it into a sport. I do feel that illegal poching is a problem. Killing panda bears and polar bears, and other animals that are almost extinct, thats definately stil a problem. That's the only hunting I could see being against.

There are people who overhunt. I don't have anything against hunting though I don't hunt. Hunting is a good thing a times especially when a place is experincing overpopulation of a certian species, for example the deer at Allerton Park by Monticello have been growing rapidly, this has caused the destruction of plant life that other species live on, so the park opened the itself up to a limited hunting season. But like I said earlier there are hunters/poachers who have hunted species of animals to the limit. To say that none of the hunters are responsible would be a lie, but to say that are is also a lie. For there is always someone who follows the rules to the T.

I don't really know much about hunting but i think hunting is alright i guess. As long as people don't go out just to kill for the fun of it, that would be wrong. All hunters should be licensed and if it is helping the wildlife in a positive way then there's nothing wrong with that.

I never hunted before but hunters basically provide the meat for people to eat. Without them you wouldnt be able to have steak, like most people like, or cheeseburgers, or anything like that. Hunting is fine with me.

Being the backwoods boy that I am, I would say that I am all for hunting. Actually, I hunt myself. I think hunters play a key role in the preservation of wildlife. What you said about hunters being the number one supporter is correct. Hunting does help with overpopulation. We hunters dont just go out and kill when we feel like it either. Some people like to think so. We have seasons in which we only have a certain amount of time to hunt for a particular species. I enjoy hunting and I support it.

I dont feel like there is anything wrong with hunting, as long as you eat what you kill and aren't just doing it for the hell of it. I do agree that if people weren't hunting animals, such as deer, there would be way too many running around, which, can cause accidents as shown in the photo. I've seen many deer ripped apart on the roadways and its not a pretty sight. We need hunters to help control the animal population. Men have been hunting since before time. So why get all pissed about whats been going on for centuries? It's a means of survival, and in today's world, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I have mixed feelings about hunting. I know that it is neccesary to control over population, but I also feel like they are animals and they should not be killed for sport. I know that i could never kill a deer, squirrel, rabbit, pheasant, quail, or any other cute little animal. I do understand that it is needed, but I just know that it is not for me. Different people have different forms of recreation.

Hunting is good for popu lation control. It hepls keep the food chain in balance. it keep animals from over populating and moving into cities and harming people.

I don't understand why anti-hunters feel like hunting is such a terrible thing when really its helping the environment and maintaining animal populations. I agree with the research you had with what you said about hunters being the number one supporter. Overpopulation of certain species has been a problem in places because there might not be enough vegitation or plant life to go around.

I have seen many car accidents caused by deer and ever time the deer are fine and the car they hit is in bad shape.Plus how can people say that by hunting we are killing off all of the animals i see deer all the time and not jsut one or two but in big pacts.I don't thing that s a sign that they are being killed off.i also agree that anit hunters need to stop looking at hunting in a bad way and see it for for what it is and sport that many people enjoy and they don't use hunting as a way to kill off animals they use it as a way to have fun and take it easy.

i did not grow up in a hunting family. I do not recall hearing anything negative about hunting when I was growing up. Iit was simply that none of my family members had interestin it. Most of the arguments against hunting I have heard are based on how cruel it is. Well, once I started learning about how we grow, slaughter, and process our domestic animals I started thinking seriously about what is and is not cruel. I am a believer in allowing people to live their lives in the way they choose, provided they don't hurt anyone else in the process. Basically, my view is that if a person doesn't like hunting, he or she shouldn't feel like they have to do.

One time when I went to Homer Lake, I saw a deer having gotten shot and just laying on the ground. I think that hunting should be around, but not let people shoot in places where wildlife grows much. God said that we can eat animals and so he provided us meat. When hunting could be a game for some, they should not allow to hunt because shooting an animal for no reason is killing a life.
Katrina Burkhardt

I am not personally into hunting but some of my family members do hunt. I believe that every living thing has the right to live unless it is dangerous to surrounding people. I know that hunting is considered a sport. I was raised in a small farm town and over half of the boys in my school went hunting. I really do not have anything against hunting but I just do not understand how someone has the will to kill an innocent animal. In the other hand I understand how people are worried that some wildlife are overpopulating and are causing car accidents that have caused some deaths. As I said before, I'm from a small town and there is nothing scarier than driving in the country and there is a herd of deers on the side of the road and you not knowing they might cross your way. So, in conclusion I say if someone really likes to hunt then thats fine with me. But I just think I don't have the heart to do it.

I believe hunting is a good thing. It is how our ancestors have survived for years. Hunting has so many resources: food, clothing, tools, and etc. I believe people against hunting just don't like that fact of killing animals, but faced with having food, clothes and things or not surviving i would choose to survive. I don't think killing domesticated animals is okay like cats and dogs, but cows and pigs are resourcful.

I am not against hunting. My father was an avid outdoorsman, hunting every season. When I was little we would eat whatever he caught during that season. I do not feel this is cruelty to animals. This was the way of life centuries or decades ago, this is how people survived off the land. We can't even do that, because people want to judge or try to stop hunting.

I think hunting is perfectly ok. Not only did God give the animals to humans as a source of food and to use their bodies as much as we can. My grandpa goes hunting evey year for deer hunting both bow and shot gun. He and other members of my family always bring back enough deer meat to last most of the family the whole year. To him it is not just a sport but a way to provide his family with some food to last them a while. Hunting is also a way to keep the deer population down. If people were not allowed to hunt deer they would be all over the place. I do not agree with hunting for sport. I saw a show on ESPN once and they were hunting, but after they shot the deer they just left it there to die. I started to cry becuse I don't understand why some one would kill just to kill.

I don't hunt but I know alot of people that hunt and not a one of them do it for sport. they eat there kill. hunt is ethical and a natural cycle of life. There is no differance to me between killing an animal in the wild or lining them up in a barn. I think I don't hunt because I'm lazzy, I don't want to hide in a bush and wait. I recomend the deli any day but thats me. If I were an animal I'd rather be hunted than huled into a death machine with cattle progs.

I'm against hunting. Some people who are into hunting say that if not for hunters some species would overpopulate, but this is only the case because humans have decimated the natural habitat for these species. Deer in Illinois once had thousands of miles of wooded area to run in and live on. Humans have taken most of the land away from them, and then we have the gall to justify killing them when their numbers become too big for them to survive on what little land we have left them.

You ask if hunting is ethical, and I'd say No way. Unfortunately, humans have arranged things so that hunting is practical now, however. There's truth in the argument that if we don't shoot some animals, they'll likely die of starvation. That's the hunter's best argument (that I know of), but they're fooling themselves if they think that makes hunting ethical.

I'm not a hunter and am against killing for sport or pleasure. I hope one day guys like these dudes in the photo (50 dead birds between them!) get the tables turned on them to see what it feels like to be shot in the belly.

I don't think anyone should hunt unless they can't get to a grocery store. Hunting for sport is especially wrong. It's disturbing that some people get pleasure or an adrenlin rush out of cutting another life short.

I lived down south for a year and i think what i have learned is that hunting should be only for food through certen times of the seasons. Down there hunting season people got a paid day off at work, because the companys act like it is a holiday. The only way it should be right is if it is that season and the animal popluation is getting large. That is when you will see more and more animals on the road running. Causing acciddents and hurting themselfs at the same time. Now if it is out of season you are not allowed to hunt and if caught doing so you will be fined and possible jail. Also very stricked laws on carrying a gun.

Lots of good comments here . . . here's one more thought to add to them. In the Bible God says that man will have dominion over animals. What God might have meant is that we should take care of these other species and help them survive and thrive. Too bad so many people have understood God to have meant we can do anything we want with animals because we're superior to them. To "have dominion over" doesn't mean we can breed animals just to slaughter them for our dinner tables. I think God is probably very disappointed in humans, and this misunderstanding is just one of the reasons.

I'm just glad that when God told Adam that man also had dominion over women that Adam didn't interpret that to mean he could put an arrow into Eve and eat her for lunch.

i am a true country boy. i have been a hunter and a fisherman for many years. i can not understand how people think that hunting is wrong. where do these people think food comes from? meat doesnt grow on trees. i am all for the hunter safety courses and completely against the poaching situation. there are rules for the limit of animals killed and not every hunter follows those rules. in taking these hunter safety classes there are privelages. in order to hunt or even buy a weapon today you are required to take these classes. i dont see how this is a problem. if it wasnt for hunting there probably wouldnt be any humans on earth. i will keep hunting and so will my kids and then theirs. pita needs to eat some of my meeta.

Hunting is a way of life to some people. If your hunting for food or just the thrill of it, most hunters will eat the meat themselves or give it away for someone else to enjoy. I have never wasted any animal i have ever hunted and i have had the best time of my life doing it. There is a big adrenaline rush when you get the chance to shoot one and it makes the long day of hunting all worth it. I am not against hunting unless someone goes out and shoots something and leaves it there to die. Plus if there was not hunting there would be so many recks due to the animal population. So im pro-hunter on this subject.
