Several years ago studies were saying that video games were bad for you, caused violence in children, but just recently a few studies are showing that games are good for you; help you with critical thinking and learning skills. Do these studies hold any proof or are they just full of hot air? Do video games cause violence in players or are these players already violent to begin with?  Do you think video games, even violent ones, have something to offer players in terms of something they can take away from the game into the real world? And children that play these violent games have bought these games by themselves or do you think the parent is to blame, because they are not paying attention to the ESRB rating, with them having access to these mature games?

Do college athletes deserve to get paid in more than just scholarships?

Do college athletes deserve to get paid in more than just scholarships? Do you think it's right that some colleges makes millions off of their student athletes and only pay for some of their tuition? Should college athletes get paid off of their jersey or ticket sells like the pros do? What are the advantages and disadvantages you see to paying college athletes? Do you think college sports will become less intense if they get paid? Would you pay them for all sports, or just the money-making sports? How much should athletes be paid?

Media: How Do Cartoons Affect Youths?

All children love to watch cartoons on the television while growing up. But with cartoons that the youth watch today why do they all have a hidden message for the youth? Most of what I tend to notice a lot of in modern cartoon is the idea of sex, the use of drugs to take them to other states of mind, and the idea of obesity. Do you feel that cartoons should have a regulation on what they convey to the minds of our youth? Is there anything that you notice in cartoons that youth should not see?

Marijuana vs. Alcohol

There has been a large debate on the comparison of two different “drugs,” alcohol and marijuana, neither of which in a controllable manner is that bad for you. But one can be much worse than the other when being abused. Alcohol has been proven to cause more accidents and deaths than marijuana and is all around more harmful. Why is alcohol legal to people of age when marijuana is outlawed to almost everybody? Why are there people in prisons for smoking a little weed when we have crazy alcoholics roaming the streets every night?

Over-Medication of Elderly

Do you think that doctors are over-medicating the elderly? Do they do it because family or other medical professionals suggest it? Is it a way for pharmacies to earn more money? Do you think nursing homes over-medicate? Under-medicate? Is over-medicating a way to control pain or behavioral issues? Do you think some elderly are being under-medicated, due to lack of communicating or ability to express feelings? What are the effects of getting the wrong medication? Dose of medication?

Trayvon Martin's Case

As I'm sure everyone has heard of the Trayvon Martin case, I myself feel a little guilty because I've just recently started following the case yesterday. While watching Nancy Grace on TV, I saw that she asked the mother of Trayvon if she feels as if justice has been served and whether or not she (people in general) think the judicial system has failed over the years.

I just want to know some people's views of the case. Do yu think Zimmerman will get a fair trial? Do you think second degree murder is a tough sentence for him? I personally believe that he should have been charged with first degree murder with the death penalty as an option. I say this because of his background and the way people that know him have described him to be.

Digital World

845 million people are active users on Facebook as of December 2011 and over 145 million users are on Twitter today. Are we relying too much on the Internet for social contact? Are we addicted to our electronic devices? Do too many people spend too much time online or on their phones texting and tweeting every day? Is it ok that we are connected to everyone at all times? What do you think are the benefits of all the digital connections between people? Are there also drawbacks to people living in an online world?

How much time do you spend on the Internet daily? How many times will you check your phone in an hour?

Plastic Surgery

Do you think it is wrong for people to get plastic/cosmetic surgery? If so, why? Do you know anyone who has had plastic/cosmetic surgery done? Have you had this kind of surgery, or do you plan to? What do you think is the main reason people choose to get plastic/cosmetic surgery? What are the advantages, and what are the drawbacks for getting plastic/cosmetic surgery? When do you think someone has crossed the line when getting plastic/cosmetic surgery done?     Slade (Noon)

Television Shows

Are television shows such as "16 and Pregnant," "Pretty Little Liars," and "The Secret Life of an American Teenager" influencing the younger generation to have babies, become liars to their friends, get married at a young age because of having a baby, and sleep around with different guys? If you think so, do you consider this a problem? Should TV stations be held accountable for glamorizing lifestyles that can influence the behavior of young people, sometimes leading them into long-term problems? Should parents allow their children to watch these shows? Are these shows that you watch, or have watched, regularly? If so, have you been influenced by watching them?

Thank you!

You only live once.....

Millions of people run the same routine of life every day and take a vacation every two years. Wake up, go to work, come home, eat, and sleep. This may not be the cycle for everyone, but you get the idea. But what would it be like to do as much as you can with the few years you have on this ever-changing planet? We all get bored with our daily routine, and we all want to try something new. Everyone feels it, but the issue is everyone is scared to come out of some sort of shell they are stuck in and do it. So the question I ask you is this: Do you have enough courage to break free from your daily routine and switch it up every day? This might consist of wearing something you have never worn before, walk into that store that you stare down when you are with your friends but never have the courage to walk in, sit down and talk to a homeless person so you have a better understanding of them instead of seeing them as a failure and no need to give them money because you thought he put himself in that place.

We all want to break from this daily routine in some sort of way more than others. We are all afraid to take risks because we don't know where they will lead us and where we will go from there once we get there. I don't expect everyone to take a major risk, but something minor, something that has always sat at the back of our mind but we have been to occupied or to scared to pull it out and do it. So what I'm really trying to ask you will you take a risk? If not, why not? What do you see as the risk in taking a risk?

College or Career

Do you feel it's better to go to college or start an career? With so much competition in the work force, is college the better choice? What if your family needs your financial support right away? What if you don't have the money to cover both school and living expenses? Does a college degree guarantee you more money? In your own opinion, do you suggest college after high school or entering a career? Do you believe that people who choose college will be better off in life in the future? Why or why not? Is it possible to succeed in our society without a college degree or certification in a specific area? Any other thoughts on this subject?

Do you feel that the laws for statutory rape are fair? Do you feel that the laws are harsh enough for people convicted of  statutory rape? Do you think sexually active minors should be covered under this law? And why do you feel that way? Do you feel that parents use this law to hide their shame of their sexually active child? If a boy or girl had just turned 18 and their lover just turned 16, do you feel the 18 year old should be charged with statutory rape? Why or why not?

Alcoholism and it's effects

What would you do if someone close to you was an alcoholic, and every time you tried to bring up the subject they instantly got very defensive? Would you pursue the problem, or would you stop bringing it up so as to not agitate the person?

What are the main effects of alcoholism? How does it affect the person and the people around them? Why is it so hard for people to acknowledge their problem and start to treat their problem? What can other people do to help?

Controversial Behavior in Kids Younger and Younger

Besides pregnancy, what type of behavior do you think is happening in kids in middle school and even elementary school? Do you notice a change in kids even just out in public? What do you think is a main cause for kids acting 'older' the younger and younger they are? Do you think parents play less of a role in kids' life nowadays leading to a change in behavior? Was there a certain point in time when you noticed a major change in behavior with most younger kids? Why do you think kids are developing more maturely younger and younger as the years go on? Is there a way to stop this or will it continue to be a downward spiral?
