Are television shows such as "16 and Pregnant," "Pretty Little Liars," and "The Secret Life of an American Teenager" influencing the younger generation to have babies, become liars to their friends, get married at a young age because of having a baby, and sleep around with different guys? If you think so, do you consider this a problem? Should TV stations be held accountable for glamorizing lifestyles that can influence the behavior of young people, sometimes leading them into long-term problems? Should parents allow their children to watch these shows? Are these shows that you watch, or have watched, regularly? If so, have you been influenced by watching them?

Thank you!

I do think that shows like these are influencing kids to act like this. I think it's a problem because of how high teen pregnancy rates are getting in the United States. Parents can't really be accountable for their kids acting like a tv show character. The stations only keep making shows like this because its what people want to watch.I can't say I watch any of these shows really, ive only seen 16 and pregnant acouple times but have never even heard of the other shows

The media will always glamorize things to the point where they are unrealistic in real life. The TV stations are businesses, they are out there to make money, and they will continue to sell shows that make them profitable. I personally would hate to see a program that was utterly boring because it reflected true life. Should they be held accountable? In my opinion, they shouldn’t. Children and young adults are extremely impressionable, mainly due to their immaturity. For that reason I believe that the parents should be regulating the appropriateness of what their children are watching. I am an absolute sucker for the CW shows, but I know that what they entail has no real effect on my life. They are there for entertainment purposes only, and anyone who is influenced by them truly needs some guidance.

Most of the shows on today that are not reality shows are not there to glamorize things and to influence people in bad ways. These shows are for entertainment and to show people what it would be like in those types of situations. If parents do not want their children to watch those shows then they should monitor what their children are watching.

If you do your reading, you'll see that teen pregnancy rates have gone down since shows like that. The point of the show is to show teens what having a baby is all about, that it literally effects every part of your life, and being a normal teen just isnt an option once you have a baby. I dont think many teenage girls want to be a mom, especially at 15. Maybe they love their child and would never give them up, but i doubt their goal when they were having sex was to have a baby. Not all kids have the sex talk or sex ed to teach them. Just be lucky YOU DO. Barbie dolls and teen mom are not the same. The point of the show is to warn teen girls.. and guys in some cases, not to tell girls that having babies are cut and fun. And as far as money goes.. well.. every girl/couple on that show struggle with finidng jobs and paying bills and paying for school and paying for their babies, I dont think their getting enough money to live on for the rest of their life. And besides, the money cant help the emotional stress they go through everyday. I think your getting the wrong message from the show, if anything, its like birth control.

okay okay
first of all
16 and pregnant is showing you WHAT NOT TO DO.
Do you want to end up like these girls? No, so be smart it also helps other girls who are going through similar situations already have someone to relate to and help them make decisions. And the show is called "16" and pregnant but a lot of the girls arent even 16 some of them are 17, 18 etc. Pretty little liars is a good show, i love watching it. It's no different than a soap opera that old people watch is it? No not very different at all. And the life of an american teenager is stuff thats really going on. Girls are really having sex for the first time in highschool and getting pregnant, girls are sleeping around and they have been for years before this t.v show even came out..before any of these shows came out! I love all of these shows and im 19 years old. No i havent been influenced by them because this is the type of society that we live in...teen pregnancy has been happening since man was made, more girls are becoming permiscuous because parents arent talking to their kids, schools are promoting safe sex and the sexual t.v shows that have been broadcasted before are being watched by younger generations so now they are just using people our age to show you whats really going on...because its happening and it was happening before these t.v shows were even thought of...and the characters in these t.v shows arent even teenagers their 20 and older...

I don't believe these shows themselves are influencing youth. Those youth that are dumb enough to think that what these teens are dong is cool, then they probably would have been doing these things anyway. I am not a big fan of these shows, but I will admit to having plopped down and watched an episode or two of 16 and Pregnant. Honestly, I do not believe this show is glamorizing pregnancy by any means. Every episode the pregnant teen has serious problems with either her parents, the baby daddy, or her friends. Is this really the type of life teens believe that they want? Watching this show is literally birth control. The girls on this show just reinstate my opinions on teen sex. If you don't want to get pregnant, get an STD, have a deadbeat dad for your child--don't have sex.

I've never really seen any of those shows really except for " 16 and Pregnant" It's shows how hard life can be for you when your not ready to have a child. in two weeks I'm going to be 20 and I'm still not ready. T.V period will influence your child. some positive and some negative, that's why the FCC has to precaution by providing parental chips. There also programs for designated for specific audiences. For example a ten year old boy probably does want to watch CNN and what is going on with the Dow Jones. T.V. is meant to Inform and Entertain. as parents they should be able to balance out the two. There has really been a show that I have been influence by recently. I think once you reach a certain age you pretty have your mindset on what you need to do instead of what you want to do.

I think that this kind of television shows might have an influence on the younger generation but I think that it all has to do with how the circumstance of the young teenager is. For example, in my point of view, these shows are not influencing me in any way. On the other hand, these shows are just making me not want to be in their shoes. I do sometimes see 16 and pregnant but when I see that show I just start thinking about the fact of the opposite. What I mean by that I that it does not influence me at all in wanting to have kids, it just make me not want to have any at a young age. Though, I have not seen the other shows that were mentioned so I wouldn’t be able to say if they are influential to teenagers. Also, shows like those can be influential to other teenagers and it can be a problem because they are just giving ideas for them to think of that they do not need at such a young age. I do not think television shows should be held accountable because they just make shows and people are the ones that decide if they stay on or not. This is when the part when the parents come in. It all has to do with the fact of what parents let their children watch.

I think television shows are influencing the younger generation to have kids and be liars ad get married at a young age. I consider it a huge problems. I think television stations should be held accountable because they are influence these kids on getting pregnant early and saying it's okay to lie to friends. I also think it is the parents fault too for letting them watch shows like this when the parents know they shouldn't be. I believe it has to do with the newer generation and how parents are letting them do this. I haven't been influenced by it because I know the difference between what is right or wrong.

I do not think that is the goal of the show but i'm sure people do take it that way. They see girls on TV doing it so they think that it might be ok for them to do as well. I do think its a problem, i personally think all reality TV shows are bad influences and completely stupid. They should not be acountable but the producers should find people with talent instead of making little sluts famous. Anyone can have sex and get pregnat does that mean you should be on TV? No. Parents should monitor their children on these shows especially if they do not feel their children are responsible. No i try to stay away from reality TV shows because they just make me mad about how stupid some americans are.

i feel that no reality t.v is actual reality. there are always kinks and editing in those shows. however, i dont think shows like 16 and pregnant influence teens to have children. you would think if anything it would reduce teen pregnancy rate. its all for entertainment and money! i havent watched the other shows, but i have tuned into 16 and pregnant a few times. i dont think any young teenager actually wants to have a baby ... but sometimes u just have to deal with the consequences. shows such as this should be a guide of what not to do when you are a young teenager. the girls in the show show how hard it can be to have a babby when you are young and not ready.
