Plastic Surgery

Do you think it is wrong for people to get plastic/cosmetic surgery? If so, why? Do you know anyone who has had plastic/cosmetic surgery done? Have you had this kind of surgery, or do you plan to? What do you think is the main reason people choose to get plastic/cosmetic surgery? What are the advantages, and what are the drawbacks for getting plastic/cosmetic surgery? When do you think someone has crossed the line when getting plastic/cosmetic surgery done?     Slade (Noon)

No, I don't feel that plastic/cosmetic surgery is wrong. To each his own. If a person wants to enhance what God has giving how are we to judge them. Sometimes people have to have it due to an accident they were in. Personally I wouldn't do to myself, cause I'm satisfied with what God has given me. I guess people get the surgery, because they are not satisfied with their looks. The main advantage is that it enhances their looks, one of the main disadvantages is that you could get a bad job done to you,and your body gets messed up or worst, you die. I feel when you keep having plastic surgery time after time, that's taking it too far, because you begin to start looking fake, like a mannequin. Latonya

I think that plastic surgery for medical reasons is absolutely acceptable. Cleft pallets, deformed limbs, amputations etc are all totally appropriate reasons for plastic surgery. Cosmetic surgery, however, I have mixed opinions on. A part of me wants to say that it is your body, and that you can do what you like with it. Whether that means getting a breast enlargement, or having veneers installed; it’s your body. However when a place like Hollywood is jam-packed with fictitious representations of mankind, this can become a problem. At no point should someone be socially stigmatized for the way that they look. There is no excuse for discrimination and it should never happen. There is a lot of genetic diversity out there; who cares if you aren’t perfectly symmetrical and have a pearly white smile?

Well I don't know, if someone has a serious problem, say like an accident, birthmark,or something health related i would say okay. But that would be my opinion, some people aren't happy with the way they look, or how a part of them makes them feel. I talked with a lady one day that said she was going to be 72, i remarked that she looked good, and she said thank my plastic surgeon. I have thought about plastic surgery, if i could afford it i might. I have seen pictures of people who have crossed the line, not pretty, but I don't think they know it.

I think that plastic surgery is good if it is for medical reasons. A lot of people get cosmetic surgery because they do not like something about themselves and I think in most cases that is okay. Also, a lot of people choose to get cosmetic surgery for a certain career choice. A lot of models get breast enlargements because it can help their career. I have heard of people being almost addicted to plastic surgery and that is where I think plastic surgery can cause problems. I think that plastic surgery is totally fine if someone is doing it for themselves and not to impress other people.

I really think we don't teach children to look at themselves from the inside out. To be good people, to be healthy, that beauty is both on the inside and the outside, and that we are all beautiful.

So, I suppose in a more philosophical way, I am against plastic surgery of any kind because it feeds in the concept that humans, women in particular, aren't pretty enough the way they are and that they have to surgically alter their bodies to become pretty. I really wish we would help people learn self esteem instead of buying a new body part. I care that women are role models for the younger generations and what women are saying by having everything enlarged, reduced, enhanced, changed, bettered etc. is teaching young girls that your body and what it looks like is more important than your mind and that natural doesn't have value, that perfection is worth the price and that to get ahead, compete, etc. you have to be perfect or better than you are naturally.

Just because I believe that though doesn't mean that I don't believe to each their own. I just think their own sends a message that some might not realize they are sending and I think that message comes with a price for the younger generations.

I know a few high school seniors that are getting boob jobs as their graduation present. Now tell me, at age 18, how do you even know that you want to deal with the repercussions of that for the rest of your life. There is no going back. All they know is that they have small boobs, for whatever reason that doesn't make them happy and they are going to change it. So, instead of doing that maybe they should get therapy and deal with what is it about the inside that is so impacted by the outside. Most girls at that are aren't mature enough to make a life altering decision like having implants. Furthermore, you are too young to evaluate how that is going to impact you as a woman, as a mother, etc.

I rambled but it seems pertinent to me. To each there own. I don't care what anyone does however I wish people would look at how their decision impact a society and make responsible decisions and think it through instead of basing their decision to have plastic surgery on emotions in the moment.

I believe that we are all individuals and we have the right to choose for ourselves what makes us happy and comfortable with ourselves, but me personally, I do not believe in plastic/cosmetic surgeries. No, I do not know of anyone that has had work done, nor am I interest in getting some work done, maybe focus on getting healthier but other than that no. I think that they are not comfortable with themselves and are willing to change whatever that is make them happy. I don't believe that it is an advantage, due to the risk in any surgeries, but to have surgery and it's not life threaten, is an opportunity I just do not see it worth taking. The drawbacks depend on where the cosmetic/plastic surgery is done, some places will have to be routinely done and over years the area of alteration will began to droop, due to aging.

Anytime you dislike who you are and are willing to risk your life to change it.

I don't necessarily believe that plastic surgery is wrong, nonetheless stupid. Granted, there are people who truly need plastic surgery. Those who have lost a lot of weight and need to get the excess weight removed for example. Or those who have gotten in a serious car accident and their faces have been disfigured. These are the type of people that SHOULD be getting plastic surgery. Those who are getting it just because they want to be pretty are either dumb or have some psychological issues. Women need to start having confidence in themselves and their own appearance, rather than longing to be like their favorite movie star. Going to therapy or some sort of counseling session to talk about self-esteem issues would be much more productive (and cheaper) than getting a ton of plastic surgery and possibly putting your life in danger. Even those people that are getting little things done like a nose job or an eyebrow lift aren't really doing anything productive. Honestly, the people around you probably won't even notice. Also, once you start getting plastic surgery, it's a hard habit to break. You begin to notice the smallest, most insignificant "defects" with your body and then wallow in self-pity and and self-destruction until they "fix themselves" through plastic surgery. I believe that plastic surgery is psychologically damaging to anyone who is using it other than a true necessity.

I feel like if its something you want to do then no one can really stop you. There are people out there that take it a little too far but a touch up here or there inst terrible. I think it should be the last resort option. like do everything you can before you make a change. I also done feel like you should be judged if you get something done. I mean in the long wrong its your choice and you have to do what makes you happy. I can see why some people might want to change something because it may enhance loathing that has to do with their career or job.

I don't believe it is wrong i believe everyone can make their own decisions on doing what they want to their own bodies. but i also think people are beautiful in their own way, and shouldn't change a thing. but i know from experience that people are self conscious. I do know someone who has receive surgery and that was my mother. She had breast augmentations because she was having severe back problems, and could not handle it anymore, and i don't blame her.. so i think everyone can make their own decisions, but should have to be a certain age before they are allowed to get it done, unless something happens where their nose is bitten off or something in that nature, and need it fixed.

I believe it is wrong for people to get plastic/cosmetic surgery because why would you want to change how you look for people. I don't know anyone who has done plastic or cosmetic surgery done. I haven't had this kind of surgery and nor do I plan to having this surgery done.I don't see any advantages but all the disadvantages is about wasting your money on some stupid surgery. I think someone has crossed the line when they get their plastic surgery for the 7th time.

In certain cases i do beleive plastic surgery is wrong. If people are just unhappy with their apperance i feel it is completly wrong to get plastic surgery. Now if you have a birth defect or if you were injured and need it its a different story. Yes i know several mom's who have got their boobs done. And even though they look good i do not beleive they were neccasary. I think most people get plastic surgery because they were insecure about what ever it is they want changed. Advantages are making your self look and feel better. Negative things are they often go wrong, and your changing who you are to someone your not. People usually cross the line anytime they have more than one surgery done but if y our whole body is fake or a implant that is past the line like Nicki Minaj or Ice T's wife.

I do not think that plastic surgery is wrong. I thin it could be abused but i don't think it is totally wrong. Surgery is inevitable and you can't avoid it. People want to enhance their looks and i say go for it, but don't over due it. I say if you have the money, do it. I definitely think that plastic surgery is a necessity for medical reasons.

i dont understand it. i mean God made us all to look a certain way, so why mess up his work!? ive thought about gettin a breast lift, but, hell, there is nothing a good BRA wont do!!! i just dont see how people will pay all that money and go through all that pain to go through plastic surgery. the risks are not good either. i dont think its WRONG, i mean, hey, if you got the money to do it, and if u arent satisfied with the way you look, then by all means, do just that. i just dont understand it thats all. there are some people who get dumb things, like bigger boobs. i really dont get that.. but for those who may have been in an accident or something, then i get why they may want plastic surgery, but again, i just believe God has a plan for us and everything happens for a reason. he made us all how he wanted us to look.!

I think that plastic surgery is good and I think that it is bad for some reason. I understand if you need or want to do plastic surgery for any type of medical reason. That is understandable. If you are just wanting to do it for the heck of it because you don't like a feature of yourself. I think you are crazy to go through that because you want to change something about yourself. God mad you the way you are and you shouldn't have to go through that pain of trying to change something about yourself. I think that people become really addicted to it and it causes big problems. I just feel that you are wasting your money. On the other hand, If you have medical reasons that cause you need it then that is a different story. I do not know of anyone who has gotten it, nor do I plan on getting it myself.

I think that plastic surgery like many things are only good if you do them for the right reasons. If someone is in a car accident and their face gets torn up then yes, I believe that person should receive plastic surgery. However there are those people that get surgery after surgery just because they think that something is wrong with their face or their legs. I think that it should be mandatory for anyone not involved in a car accident or another major accident to have to talk to a therapist about why they think they need to surgery. If there is no physical scars or nothing that needs to be reconstructed they I believe that people should not receive plastic surgery.

I think this is more of your own choice what you choose to do to your body. I don't think its wrong but then again i would never do it because i don't feel its needed. I feel like when people get plastic surgery their trying to prevent a natural thing from happening which is aging and starting to look older. This is my opinion though because i want to have lots of tattoos on my skin and i know many people believe this is wrong but its what i choose to do. I think you have went to far when plastic surgery becomes a regular basic thing or something people are doing once a month or just more than 3 times a year. First, i know that the heeling process takes a very long time because ive had a aunt whos had plastic surgery. Second, I know the surgeries can be very expensive. In the economy we live in most people don't have the money to be wasting. Really it all depends on the person. I believe what you do to your body has to be under full control of the person and what their willing to undergo for a certain image or look. I just believe people need to become more happy with their bodies and shouldn't worry about changing their apperance.

I do not think its wrong for people get plastic/cosmetic surgery. If they really want to make their body's different that is up to them. No I do not know anyone that has plastic surgery, but people that want it. There would probably be a couple things that I would get done if I had tons of money. Most people probably get plastic surgery to make them and their body feel and look better to them and others. The advantages to plastic surgery is that the person can look better then they did before. The bad part about it, it can cause you to look fake or can cause problems for them. When some has crossed the line you can totally tell. They will have to much of something going on with them.

I dont really know..
Youre supposed to love yourself the way you are, but a lot of people do it for medical reasons as well. If you are getting precedure after precedure to alter your appearance then i think its wrong...and you usually end up looking horrible anyways.

I don’t think it is wrong at all for anyone to get plastic surgery, its something that is becoming more and more socially acceptable. I know a few people who have got some type of plastic surgery done in their life. I plan on having plastic surgery when I’m a little older but who knows if that will really happen. I mean every girl wants to have her boobs done at some point in their life. I think people do it to feel good about themselves, because if you aren’t comfortable with yourself than it will be hard for others to be comfortable around you. The advantages of plastic surgery are that you can fix things on your body or improve things you think should look better. A drawback of plastic surgery is that sometimes things can go wrong and you could have a bad reaction to the surgery. I think when people start to look Barbie or Ken then you know things have gone too far, a plastic face and body is not cute and that’s when someone has a serious, serious issue going on with themselves and need to see someone of other medical professions for help.
