Music Videos . . . Do you think men are degrading women in their music videos, or are women degrading themselves? Do you think the issue of degrading women (or men) in music videos is not a big issue or problem? Why or why not? Are the women in these music videos influencing young women in today's society? If so, how?

i feel that the women degrade themselves because, when they take this job position to be a video vixen, they already know what they are geeting theirselves into. It could be a problem because the children who watch these videos may like what they see and may want to try and do the same when they get older.Yes the women are influencing the young women in today's society because they may want to be in a video one day.
I believe that women are being degraded in music videos by both themselves and the men singing. The way they dress and act are not statements that should be made to younger girls. I feel that many young girls feel the need to look and act like what they see on t.v because they feel its what is right. Young girls are influenced easily so by watching women on television act this way, they feel it is okay to do the same.

I think that they degrade themselves. Its not only that they are degrading in music videos, they also degrade themselves by being dancers as well. Every single day women are accused of being like the people on T.V. although not every woman is like that but we get viewed like that from other people's poor choices. I do think that they are influencing young women too, because they think if they act like the girls in the videos, they will be on TV too and its coming across like its an okay thing to do.

I feel that the women come onto the set knowing what they have to do and noone's forcing them to do it so it's pretty much all on them whether they do it or not. Men play a small part in it as well being that the song is theirs but they make music based on popular demand so really it's our generation of young people who like this kind of music so who's really to blame?

I don't think sex is degrading. I don't think nudity is degrading. I don't think focusing on certain body parts that have been labeled "sexual" or "private" by our culture but which are actually reproductive in nature is degrading. I don't think dancing, or any kind of moving to music, is degrading. I don't think men lusting after women is degrading. I don't think women wanting men to lust after them is degrading.
I am okay with these videos as adult entertainment. I watch them with interest. If I learned that anyone forced these women (or men) to be in the videos, I would feel different, but since everyone is participating on their own free will, more power to them.
I don't think girls under 16 should be watching these videos anymore than they should be looking at porn on the Internet, but of course they do both, and who's going to stop them?

I feel women do degrade themselves in modern entertainment. The way they dance and are shouldnt be an example to younger girls. at the same time I feel men also degrade women by having them perform or entertain by sexual means. some women have no choice but to do what they do because of money or its just the profession being their job.

I feel that man are not degrading women in their videos. These man are paying these women or actor to dance in the video or to act as a girlfriend. This is starting to become a issue because i know that Nelly (Rapper) accused of degrading to women in his Tip Drill video. I do feel that some of these women are influencing young women in society, because they might be putting a image in the young females mind that females are use only in video to use dance and look good. But if their being rised right they know to be a women not a video girl

I don't have a problem with women or men in music videos that are dancing provocatively. I do not feel like they are degrading themselves because they are making the choice to act that way. However, I do think that when young people watch these videos they feel like that is what they should act like or look like or be like. It is the same thing with them looking up to celebrities though and then the celebrity doing something like taking naked photos of themselves and putting them on the internet. In the society we live in, there is no way to shelter children and teenagers from what happens other than to not allow them to see any type of media.

I don't feel like it's degrading. Love it or hate it, provocative clothing and dancing is a part of our society. All parties involved are making the choice on their own, so that's on the individual person. The dancers don't have to dance, the singers don't have to sing, and the audience doesn't have to watch... But they do. So I don't have a problem with it.

I think that women are degrading themselves in today's world. There is nothing forcing women to dress like they are or dance like they do. If the women don't agree with the what they are wanted to do then don't sign the contract. I do feel to that the women in these videos are influencing the young women in today's society because it seems that they feel that is the popular thing to do.

I believe men degrade women for the most part in their videos. Yes the women agree to do the music videos but all in all it is the men with the idea. I think this is a big issue especially with television becoming more and more sexual. Our children are watching these videos that are glamorizing sexual acts. I believe these women are influencing the young women of our society more than we believe.

i feel that a women, and i say women that choice to showcase themselves in that way have the right to live their lives in any way that they feels suites them as a citizen or person like you and I. thats just like a women who goes to college to study law has the choice as a women to make the decision on her own life, just as the women choosing to shake what her body in a music video
deashanay
BOOGIE DOWN! SHAKE IT, MAMA! I say this: God gave us our body parts, and he also gave us the desire to want to see and touch those body parts on the opposite gender, so if we pretend that we don't want to see those parts shaking all around, then isn't that an insult to God? Sexy videos--bring them on! Sexy videos are no worse than porn in my view.

I see it as neither are degrading neither the women have a choice if they want to be in those videos or not. I am also sure that the women in the videos are getting a nice pay check also. Yet if they are not they are doing it to be on T.V. so they are getting what they want either way. I personally don't think any one should judge the men or women in the videos. Let God do it since you really have no important say. The guys are just doing what it takes to make money people want to see hot girls like that and that what pays the bills then why not pay the girls to act like that?
Micah
Some music videos are degrading to women that watch/ hear it. And I’m sure that the young women are influenced by what they see and hear with today’s music. But the women that choice to be in these music videos are degrading themselves. Before the filming even begins these women fully know what they are getting themselves into and still choose to do so. For most of the women doing the music videos that is their full time job and they like what they do; but by them doing so they are degrading themselves and influencing young women to do the same.

I don't think that women are being degraded in music videos. They make the choice to take the job and put themselves out there. The woman herself makes that decision and no one is forcing them. They do not have to take the job.

I think women degrade thereselves in music videos because they just look skanky as hell and they put theresselves in that position, the artists can't make them go into the video. In a way though rappers can definitly degrade women because a lot of songs are about throwing money at strippers, making them drop low, and so on, so I mean teh girls kinddof have to put theirselves out there. I feel that children could look up to these people and could definitly be sending the wrong message that money, girls, and sex are all that matters in life. Clearly not what life is about in many cases.

I do think that women are degrading themselves in videos because they are basically advertising sex and since this music is really popular in our society young girls are watching these and think that that's acceptable to act that way. And it seems that all rapers sing about is sex and women and putting those in the minds of young people making them think thats all there is in life. I also see the other side of the story meaning that this is a job and that everyone needs to find a way to make a living, and no on is forcing them to do this. If your good at singing and dancing then you should be able to make a living off of it.

I do feel like the women are degrading themselves, to fit in the changing world. They just want to become famous and have more guys looking at them.
Daniel (1:00)
yes i do think women degrade themselves becasue when they are choosen for the video they know how they will be dancing and wearing. No music videos really care how smart, they only want the girl in shape with the bigger attributes.it is a big issue because they give young girls the idea that they should all look like that and many do alot to thier body to look a little bit close to those girls.
