Legal Marijuana

As of late 2009, there are 14 states such as California, Oregon, Washington, Maine, Nevada, Colorado, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont that allow the use of legal, or medical marijuana in their state lines. There are bills out there trying to be passed to allow all states to legalize marijuana. In California, a vote has been passed to actually have the citizens vote whether or not they want it legalized or not. Do you feel like this is a good idea for our country to legalize a drug? Some say it will bring our country out of debt, others say it wont. Other people think that crime rates will go up or maybe lots of drug wars will stop going on. Can this benefit our country by passing this law?

I think that the drug wars are probably over bigger drugs than weed. I know people who grow it in their closets so it can't really be that hard to get. If it was legalized for only medical reasons i don't think it'll solve any problems on the street, people want to smoke it that don't have cancer and they're still going to get it the same way they usually do. I doubt it would benefit the country that much if it was legalized, the only people buying it from the doctors who are allowed to carry it would be the ones who truly need it, it isn't going to solve it for anyone else.

everyone loves marijuana!!! i think the u.s should just legalize the drug. it may higher crime rate if the marijuana is legal because all the drug dealers are going to lose money and that would casue more killings and people been robbed, it would also lead to bigger deal druging of a stronger drug. i just think people go to jail for maijuana is really dum and if they made it legal then maybe the drug dealing would stop but we would never know unless we make it legal. there are cops that even smoke the drug everyone does it. in this time of are life there is alot of things that could be used to help the drug out of the system so with or without the drug i think the crime rate would still be were its at.but it would make the world more open about marijuana use.

I agree that it should be legalized, drug wars are wayyy bigger than something grown in a closet any ways. Debating about the "get us out of debt" thing because people can always bullshit numbers, I guess if you're worried about it do the math yourself. To me it's like calm version of getting drunk, so +1 for legalization.

I think if they were to legalize it, it would fix alot of problems we have. First we have how many people in jail for marijuana that the state has to pay for.People are going to use it whether it is legal or not. If it helps people for medical reasons then let them have it.I do think it would stop the crime rate and the drug problems we have in the U.S. as of today. They just need to legalize it and get it over with. Dawn Smith

I suppose that if the government was to legalize marijuana it could help the economy in a sense, because the government could just tax the hell out of it just like they do for everything else. If the government were to tax it people would definitely still buy it, and there would be a lot of people who would buy it. Also, once legalized people might fall back into smoking because they used to and quit, or people might start smoking because they have always wanted to try it and could now do so if legalized. Even if it were to be legalized sometime soon, it still would not be accepted for years to come. The generation above us, our parents, still feel as though marijuana is a terrible thing, but our generation seems to feel different about it. I do not see the government legalizing marijuana completely though.

Honestly I have mixed feelings about this subject. On one hand there are a lot worse drugs out there, and personally I would rather have someone I know do pot then say rather cocaine. I honestly don't think pot is a bad thing as long as it is not the top priority and you can get things done that are needed more, like still pay bills, spend time with the family, hold up a job. as long as it is done in the privacy in your own home I don't see what the problems is. From what I know about pot through friends, and research on my own pot basically only gives you the munchies and makes you more mellow. an only in extreme cases has anything bad ever happened in an incident with pot. Personally I don't fully understand why it was banned for the most part other then it's so easy to grow , and is a large cash crop. Personally I don't smoke pot, never will because that's not who I am.

I think that it would be a good idea! I know that it's expensive, and put a nice big tax on it will bring some money to our states! It's really not that bad if they are using it for medical reasons. Just put laws on it like there are for alcohol.

I think if the make marijuana legal there going to have to make other drugs legal to which would not be a good idea. So i don't think they should because its makeing peoples bodies worse and not helping there health. I know to many people who smoke it and they would have a hay day if it was legal they would be smoking it 24/7 which would not be a good idea. They will end up getting sick and what will the doctors do or say?? I think its just better if people get it on there own because then they won't be able to get so much or if they want to grow go for it, but don't be stupid about it.

First of all, legalizing the drug would only instill the wrong kind of values in our children. It would not be wrong but, the conditions that some of these kids are in already , would make it look like some kind of fun. Actually, it would be better if the world turns their attentions to some thing alittle bit more of an importance, like the economy and the unemployment situations. Tracey Boswell

I believe that legalizing Marijuana will help the government get out of finical trouble. Americans spend millions of dollars a year on Marijuana and the government could legalize it and then put a tax on it to help them make more money. Marijuana isn't that bad of a drug, and I believe that if it was legal it would only help the county, not make it worse. But then again I don't think that if or when Marijuana is legalized, it will stop drug wars. With other drugs such as cocaine and meth around I don't believe that the drugs wars will ever stop.

I feel that there are so many people who smoke marijuana that it might as well be legal. I never have or desire to smoke marijuana but individuals who I know have say they like the way it makes them feel. They say it makes things better such as if you are watching a movie that may not be funny when your high, it's funny when you are. I have heard that people with different illness say that it ease the pain that they are in as well. I do think that you should not go to jail for getting caught selling or smoking marijuana.

I don't like this. I'm a person that is totally against drugs. Who knows if it will benefit the country. More people would probably be doing it but then more people would be more likely to get cancer too. They have other medications that can take in place of this. It's going to take more than just legalizing marijuana to bring the country out of debt.

As long as cigarettes are legal then marijuana should definitely be legalized. I believe that marijuana affects the brain and kills brain cells. I also believe that it is at least psychologically addictive. That said, I don't believe I've ever seen any conclusive proof that marijuana is that much more harmful than cigarettes, alcohol, or junk food. Laws should make sense, even when they rarely do, and if cigarettes and alcohol are legal, marijuana should be treated generally the same way.

I definitely think weed should be legalized because it helps more than it hurts. This is better than a lot of drugs out simply because of side affects. The only side affect weed has is that it causes hunger, which can actually help if trying to help with people who are anarexic or to keep patients that have kemotherapy from loosing to much weight. The legal drugs we have can cause death or blood clots and all types of other problems. I don't think this will be enough to bring us out of death but i do think the crime rate will go down because everyone will be a lot more relaxed.

I honestly don't know much about it. But there must be a reason that it is illegal now right?

If we legalize it I think the excitement factor will go down and people might not want it as bad. People tend to want what they can't have not to mention that this drug can help relieve pain to those who have no chance of surviving their cancer.

I don't think it will make a big difference people without medical problems will still find a way to get it and if it's legalized, It will make bigger problems. More drug sellers, more weed, More people smoking it! this would be like heaven for people who are into that!

When you smoke a lot of weed you get high and you start to tip over not knowing what the hell is going on. I mean its just like beer, you drink to much you won't even know how to stand up. I believe everyone have smoked weed before. They should legal marijuana.

Marijuana can't be that bad of a drug if it is use for medical reasons and has already been legalize in some states. It is not as harsh as drugs such as: cocaine, meth, heroine, etc. People have to have these drugs once there on them. I think people over think about marjiuana. It does not have you out here robing, stealing, and killing, so you can smoke it. Yes, it causes drug wars, because it is illegal ,and that is someways people chose to make money. I think legalizng it is not a bad thing, but everything has it pros and cons. What are the drug dealers going to do if it is legalized: are they going to be able to sell it or are they going sell to more harsh drugs. If they are going to legalize it, it should be available to every one like cigarettes are. Cigarettes are addictive and can also kill you. I have not heard of anyone dieing because a weed overdose. There would not be people in jail for marijuana. It would generate more government money. The crime rate is stealng going to be high because of other drugs and the economy.
