Illegal Immigration

What do you think about illegal immigration? What do you think should happen to all the illegal immigrants already living and working in the United States? Should children born in the United States to illegal immigrants be allowed the same health benefits that the children of the legal poor receive?

Thanks for your input.

I don't understand why people cross the Mexican/US border into the United States illegally...isn't it much easier and less dangerous to get your citizenship? The people who are now living in the US illegally, if they get caught, then that's their fault they didn't get their citizenship. But if a child was born in the US and the parents are illegal immigrants, maybe there's such a thing that the parents are forced to either claim their citizenship immediately and put their child on foster care until they are able to gain their citizenship.

It's a shame that people in other countries are so desperate to get out. I think times would have to be pretty hard to leave your home and risk everything to sneak into another country. Do we punish people for running to America for hope and freedom? This is what our country was built on. We are a wonderful mix of cultures, something we should celebrate instead of complaining about. Citizenship is hard to get, and if a family needs to get out of their country quickly, they may not feel like they have time to immigrate to the U.S. legally. However, the large amounts of illegal immigrants have caused many problems for our country. The Mexican/U.S. border, for one thing, needs to be closed--we can't just let everyone in. Taxes have to be paid, and there aren't enough jobs or homes for so many people. Illegal immigrants should have to earn legal citizenship or leave. I don't think their children should be punished, but they need to be with their parents, so if the parents leave the country, so should the children.

I think people should have their freedom and should do what they need to do. I think they don't get their citizenship because they don't have the money and becuse they are lazy. I don't think they should leave when they already live in the U.S. they already live there why make them go back? I think if your parents are illegal and they make them go back to mexico the kids should go too why seperate a family?

I do not really understand why such a big deal is being made out of illegal immigrants. Who the hell are we to try and stop them from coming here? I think that our naturalization process is ridiculous--too drawn out, confusing, and insensitive. Personally, I do not know why someone would want to come the the United States in the first place--I, for one, am going to get the hell out of here at the first chance I get. If someone is able to get into the United States without our "superior" Department of Homeland Security noticing, they should get to stay here. Children born on US soil should be afforded all rights and privilages given to any other natural-born citizen (which is what they are, despite popular opinion). I think that "closet racists" like Rush Limbaugh, Hal Turner, and Sean Hannity all need to get off of their high horses and accept that we are a country of immigrants, and quit making such a big deal out of immigration.

I think about this topic quite often, I guess because I always hear it on the news. I honestly don't know what to think. My mind goes back and forth on this subject. I guess that if someone wants to come to this country they should try every legal way first, before they cross the border and enter illegally. I'm sure that the government red tape goes on forever, and getting to cross the border legally is just about impossible. I guess at some point, you have to say, enough is enough and not let any more cross the border. To do that you would have to seal the border somehow. In my opinion, the illegal immigrants that are already working and living in the United States should be given citizenship. They are already part of society, and they should start paying taxes and earn any benefits they may use in the future. If the illegals were made citizens then they would have the same benefit as any other citizen for their children. I'm not positive on how the laws work, but I think that any child born in this country is already considered a citizen.

I think that illegal immigration is understandable. In the eyes of these immigrants, America is a land of opportunity. Though it may not be what it seems, America does provide a better life for many who move here. I do think that everyone should apply for citizenship, but it is a very long process, and very difficult if you don't speak english. As far as the children of illegal immigrants, I do not think that health benefits should be withheld from them. Keeping health care from any child for any reason, no matter what point you are trying to prove, is cruel and immoral. Children are innocent and do not choose the life that they are born into.

I think that illegal immigration is something that we can not control as a nation. I really don't think it's right that they come over here and think that they can take jobs away from people. As far as the children who are born in the United States, yes, they should receive health benefits as long as they are citizens.

I think that if any illegal immigrant is already living in the U.S. Why kick them out? I don't think anything should happen to them. I do think the reason that they don't get their citizenship is because their too lazy and they can't afford it...it's not cheap. Have any one of you got your citizenship? You have to file some papers and their are fees so it's not that simple. I do think that if children that are born here should get their health benefits but not of the legal poor. Depends on their situation.

To me this is pretty open and close. If a person enters the country illegally then they should be deported. The people who cross the border illegally are hypocrits when they say they love this country; because they are not citizens they can not vote, pay taxes, or serve in the military, they basically can not do anything to effect change in the country besides taking jobs from American citizens.
I will also say that the American goverment needs to address this issue from a different angle. Instead of foucusing all these resources on patroling the boarder some of that effort needs to go into making citizenship more accessable to those seeking it.

I think illegal immigration should be looked at very closely because there are so many opportunities for U.S citizens being passed to illegal immigrants. For instance, alot of employers are using illegal immigrants and paying them less to work instead of giving deserving citizens jobs; thus leaving our youth jobless and poor. The illegal people living here and working here should be required to pass the constitution test before being allowed to continue employment or residency. How could a child born to an illegal immigrant not be an illegal immigrant itself? My answer to that is no.

Illegal immigrants need to be stopped. The illegal immigrants who are already working in the U.S. need to apply for their citizenship and pay a small, reasonable fine or be sent back to mexico(no offense). The last question I'll leave to the others because it is not my place to say what should happen.
