Is the United States winning the war on terrorism?

It seems that every day we hear more protests and threats towards our country. We also hear about soldiers and civilians being killed en masse. Are we conducting this fight the correct way?

My brother and brother in law are both in the military and i know that they feel alot better about the war then regular citizens. Remember that the news is feeled with nothing but bad news, thats all about the business. God for bid they get on the news one day and say the positives. Things like how many groups of al qaeda have been diminished since we have been there. Not to mention that saddam hussein is out of business. See i think people forget all of the mass graves we have found, how many innocent people have been murdered. Do i think that this war had gone as smooth as it could have gone?....no, but i dont think we are failing like most think either.

i agree with this person for i do not know their name, but anyways i agree with everting they said. But i think that i war could have gone a little smoother and a little more quiet. maybe more persisioned attacks would have helped instead of moving the whole F****** army there. i definitly think we sent too many troops over. on second thought terroism isnt a person or an army so it is pretty much a war that will never win, but we are making progress I think.

It's a war. People are going to die. People are going to protest. Some people will even disagree with their country. But at this time its not weither or not we are doin the right thing. It's all about support. We need to support what are country is doing, and if not than at least support our troops.

This war on terrorism is a necessary military action. These groups are not only a threat to our country, but to any country affiliated with us. Not to mention any country that is not predominantly muslim (which isn't even protection some countries). These groups are a menise to all of the worlds people. Stopping them is vital to the prosperity of mankind.
This country is not winning the war on terrorism. That is fairly apparent. The war in Afganistan had the best chances of being a success, but unfortunatly someone decided to ship all of our soldiers to another country to find some nuclear weapons. You can't win a war without any troops on the battlefield. This transition to Iraq ruined our best chances of making Afganistan free of terrorist lead governments, and not just a democratic country. The war in Iraq was mobilized way too quickly without concidering the retaliation that we now are facing. This lack in stratigic planning is one ofthe main reasons why we are not getting anywhere in Iraq. The bad thing is that as long as we are their, there will be some brainwashed fanatical in that country to start another uprising. This war in Iraq isn't going to end the way we want it to and I think that the people of this country are beginning to see that. We are not going to come out as the great emancipators of the world. We are going to be looked down upon.

I have no idea what's truly going on in Iraq, as a previous student has said, all we hear about the war is the negatives. I do think there are some positives in this war, maybe not a whole lot, but a few.

The following is all my opinion:

I think Bush completely lost track of the original goal of the war on terror. After 9/11, we invaded Afghanistan for the Al Qaeda threat, and we actually did a good job in it. Then all of a sudden, Bush decides to attack Iraq, with absolutley NO basis, or support, to do it.

The UN people sent to Iraq repeatedly said that there was nothing there. "Oh, Hussein is hiding it," so Bush gave the order to invade Iraq, and guess what? There's still nothing there.

Bush stirred up an enormous bee's nest in Iraq, and he's still trying to justify it.

Enough of my rant on Bush.

Do I think the US is winning the war on terror? Possibly, before the Iraq invasion, I think the US had a good handle on it, but once we invaded Iraq, the overall goal of the war on terror went down the drain, and it doesn't seem like it's going to be fixed sometime soon.

I think the Us is making progress in the war against terrorism, but I don't think it will ever end. My dad has been over seas for three years and he claims we are making a lot more progress than we know about. The news exposes us only to the bad parts. Not everything has gone as smooth as it could and people know that. Everyone blames Bush for what has happened when it turns out he has done a pretty good job under the circumstances. Everyone only looks at this war as if it was a complete failure. I don't think this at all. There are always the what if questions. This is a war that nobody will ever win.

That's a tough question. I've been getting alot of emails that tell a story about if we don't stand up for ourselves and others that are weaker than who will, when will the terrorism stop and how far will it spread? Some people may not think it's right for us to be were we may not belong, but when they come over here are those people willing to stand up and say Please go home because you don't belong here? By then it will be to late -so what choice do we have other than letting them know they can't come of here and spread their terrorism. We will have failed when we give up the fight for peace. We will have failed when we let them know we don't care if you kill your own people And we really will have failed when we back off and let our next generation handing the situation at hand- that would be like sitting back and watching your child play with a viciuos pitbull. I don't think we knew what we were getting into when we started this war. I don't think we are losing the war, it is just a different kind of war. In my opinion i think this will have to be a longer war and the results may not show right away but it is important that we don't pull out now that we've started so much. Pat Busey

The war is a total loss because we are losing soilders and all the soilders are doing is being in the line of fire between the two sides of the religous war in iraq. we took the power of their dictator and now the have no inforced rules it was not worth losing that many people for a lame cause.

For me this is a tough question. I don't know if we are or not. There will probably never be an end to the war on terrorism. At the same time I would be worried about what would happen if we weren't helping out in the war. I also agree with one of the earlier comments that a student said about we only hear about the bad things that are happening on the news. I am sure there are many good things that are going on over there, we just don't get to see that part.

I agree the news follows mostly bad news. It could be better than we think but we will never know. I do think our troops were spread to thin and more people have died than probably should have. The troops do deserve our support wether we agree with the war or not. You can choose to support the war or not but the troops need all of our support. They are over there on orders from our president. They are fighting for use wether they agree with the war or not.

I think we did a lot of what we wanted to do in Iraq but as stated in other comments a lot of things are still trying to be justified by Bush and I think he is trying to do this be keeping soliers over there. We have effectivly eliminated Saddam Hussein and that was a major factor. But the war on terrior is one that is going to long fought and one that raises many questions on how to best go about it. If I could have a say on if the troops could come home they would be on the first plane out, they have done there job. They have taken out the oppressive leader and put in place a democracy. Now if the Iraqies want this than they should be able to stand and fight, not even to help us but to help themselves.

I think that the united States is winning the war. The only thing that you see on Tv is everything that is going wrong, you never see any thing that goes right. I back the war 100% and people that dont need to realize that these people are fighting for your freedom. And i think that if we try to bring troops now that we might loose but i think that the United States has the war well in hand.

I am not sure about this one. I would like to think we are, but how are we to really know with all the negative publicity. I feel this war is similar to the Vietnam War, there will only losses. I think we really need to concentrate on our own problems here in the United States, first.
