Cody's question on the drinking age

Should the drinking age stay the same or be lowered?

Some people say that if you can die for your country you should be able to have a beer. Is that right?

What are some of the pros and cons of lowering the drinking age?

Thanks for the feedback

i do believe that there are some cirrcumstances that pertain to your thinking. I do believe that if someone can die for their country then they should be able to drink. Then again, how many eighteen year olds can deal with the responsibility of this. Most eighteen year olds are still in high school. I think that it could be lowered a little bit but only to 19 or 20.

I believe that the drinking age should be lowered. I agree with the fact that if you're able to "die for your country" then you should be able to drink. But, i only think that the drinking age should be dropped to 19, but 20 could work. Maybe it's because I'm too impatient to wait until 21 to wait to drink...legally.... I know a lot of underage people who are already drinking. The only thing the law does is give them the right to do it legally. That's all. It won't change anything else. I think that 19 or 20 would be ok, because by the age of 18, one is already considered an adult. I don't get what makes 21 so special.

I think that the drinking age should be lowered to 18 again. I know that for me the more that I cant do the more I want to. What I mean by this is that by not being able to legally buy alcohal, I just want to drink it even more. When my dad was back in high school he was able to and he said that not near as many people got into serious trouble back then like they do now. My opinion on the whole matter is that if I can buy chew or cigarettes, vote, and join the military and possibly die for my country, I should be able to buy alcohol.

The whole twenty one thing is a drag. Everyone under twenty one hates it. Now I love to drink as much as the next guy, but I do feel that twenty one is a good age to be legally able to drink. Kids start drinking in high school regardless of the drinking age, but by seniors being able to buy any under class men beer, underage dui's, and drunk car accidents would definately have to increase throughout the U.S. With kids being able to buy alcohol whenever, it'll lead to alcohol dependency before a student can even get to college. It also kind of lets us learn how to handle our alcohol before we're old enough to go out. It gives us a couple years to figure out how much of what is gonna make us puke. So underage drinking helps us get experience before we're legal so we dont get biligerant and start bar fights.

i ibelieve that the drinking age should be lowered to 19 or 20. I think once a person is out of high school they should have the choice to drink if they want to. once you are living on your own you should be free to make the choice if you want to drink or not. Most people drink even though they are underage, they find someone that is over 21 and give them 20 bucks and they have a case of beer sitting right in front of them. And for some people that is the fun of drinking just to break the law. And i really dont see what is so special about 21 ya you are a little older but there is not s switch that is flipped and saying that you are going to make the right decisions. And if you can vote and enroll in the military then i think you should be able to go to the store and buy alcohol.

I understand why people would want to or think the drinking age to be lowered, but i really don't think it matters it if gets lowered or not. People underage are going to drink no matter what the age limit is because the temptation or pressure is always there. Everybody see's advertisement for alchohol everyday and people talk about it so much, especially uderage people. I think people who plan on drinking a lot should know the consequeces if they get out of control or rash decisions. Thats the biggest problem with drinking, that all humans make mistakes and alcohol is only going to fuel those illadvised decisions.

Yes it should be a drinking age for the safety of the youth. But people are going to find a way to get liquior regardless. So they can pass a law all they want about the drinking age, but people are going to drink anyway whether they are 21 or 12.

I think that the drinking age should be lowered to about 18 or 19 and permit those of legal age to consume in socially controlled environment such as restaurants and official school and university functions. Currently, it is prohibited for 20-year-olds to sip champagne at their own weddings! that just isnt right. I think if your old enough to be able to get married that should be able to have a drink at your wedding. I also think that individuals of any age should be permitted to consume alcohol under the direct supervision of their parents in their own homes.

It pretty much a known fact that no matter what the drinking age is people are still going to do it. The drinking age is kind of like the whole weed situation. Was as citizens of the United States of America are not suppose to smoke or use weed in any kind of way unless prescribed by a doctor for medical reasons, but that does not stop us from smoking it just because we want to and we know that is we get caught there are consequences but we still take that risk. It doesnt matter if the drinking age is 21 or 16 people under both of those ages are still going to do it. So it really doesnt matter if it gets changed or not. If kids want to drink at and early age behind there parents back then let them, but since the want to act like adults then let them be treated like adults even if the means dealings with the police or losing there life in a accident because the choose to drink. We all know the affects drinking can have, but the real question is do we really care about those risk because if we did as young adults we wouldn't drink at such young ages.

I do think that the drinking age should be lowered to 18. At 18 we get all of this responsibility and all theses new privileges, and I think that drinking is one of them. I believe if we can fight in the armed forces and vote and be tried as an adult in court that we should have all the privileges an adult has. I think that if the drinking age were lowered there would not be that much of an increase in drinking related deaths and accidents. Everyone that is going to drink and get drunk is already doing it at 18. The age limit doesn’t really have that much in influence on people’s choices.

i think that the drinking age should be lowerd but only by a few years. and i do agree that if you can be sent to maybe die at the age of 18 or 19 why can't you drink? some cons being that we will ahve younger people drinkning but i know kids who have been drinking since they were 14 or 15 which is to young but hten they would have freidns who were 19 who cuold buy them beer which isn';t the best thing to the world. But on the pro sideif we could drink at 19 or 20 maybe leat kids would drink since for some the reason they drink is beceu it's sothing that we are not suppost to be does which makes it more fun. no matter what the drinking age is kis are sitll doing to drink so changing it won't eally matter

I feel that the drinking age should be 18. If Americans can be sent to war and buy guns at 18 then why shouldn't you be allowed to drink? Going away to war is a lot more serious subject than having a beer. Another irritating factor is that they will let you in a bar at 19 but you are supposed to stay sober? Its like setting you up to fail. The City of Champaign is constantly raiding the bars trying to find every underage drinker in the bar, but for what? Obviously its the money just like everything else in America.
