I don't know anyone that doesn't NEED it, but I know people who do not deserve it because they sit on their asses all day and don't try to make money. They took the link card away from my mom at one point and she really deserves to have it because she is feeding 5 people and she is a single mom...I think that they should re evaluate the way they pass out the cards because there are people who lie and do not really need it.

@Kristina..I completely agree with you so many people lie to just make life easier for themselves when they have no real desire to accomplish anything or try to make there life better on there own. I'm sorry that happened to your mom def sounds like 1 of a million reasons as to why they should take better look on who gets it and who doesn't. I really think there idea of drug testing to be on it and other government aid is a great idea. What do you think?

i completely agree with kristina and kyle. My mom also got it taken away when i was younger and she deserved because she was disabled and a single parent trying to feed 2 kids. i also know druggies who have link that don't deserve it at all. just because they waste money on drugs doesn't mean they should get free food.
I believe there should be drug test and you should have to prove you are trying to find a job or why your not able to have one.

@sheldon...I agree with you as well man. I feel as though america takes far less of a strict outlook on the people in the lower class and that's ruining our balance for helping. Like you said I know several people who work hard but it's never enough. Then again there are people like 1 girl I know who lives in fixed income apartments didn't wanna get a job got a LINK card and has a bf that makes 400 dollars a week that stays there more or less 7 days a week. Both of which do drugs...the government really needs to take a look at these things. Also to anyone who this concerns..who else feels on "certain" hot foods you should be allowed to purchase them over say chips, candy, etc..

I think that people who get a link card and they use it to buy items that are not necessary, like in one circumstance a women was in front of me at Meijer and she was buying magazines, an umbrella, and a flower pot with her link card. I do not thing that is right to be able to buy anything but the food you need to survive. Its not fair to the rest of us who have to give up almost half of our paycheck to the government to support people like that. They should have to go out get a job and be able to support their kids, and if they cant then don't get pregnant.

I do think they should have some kind of testing to know who is using it for the right reasons because i know a lot of people who go out and buy weed with their money and go out to eat instead of saving it for food which is more important than drugs and fast food! And the thing you said about buying junk food i understand where your coming from i dont think the link card should be used to just buy junk all the time, but in my case there is 4 teenagers so of course they aren't going to want to eat healthy food all the time so my mom might pick up some snacks here and there but that isn't what she relies on it for and it shouldnt be used for that purpose. If you aren't going to go out and try to make some sort of income because your too lazy and want to be high all day you don't deserve to eat.

I’m not the type to judge someone on their finical situation or their stability with money. But working in a grocery store for over a year do I think someone people take advantage of the Link card yes. I can’t tell you how many people that come through 300$ dollars’ worth of junk and pull out their little magic purple card as I call it. I think that the system needs to redo how they pick people who deserve it. Another thing that I hate about how this whole card works is you can also get cash back as if it was a debit card. Now if you just got everything you needed in the way of food why do you need cash back. I also hate people that come in and buy food or whatever and don’t have enough on the card but can pull out a wad of cash or a credit card. Or when you have two people come through with two cart loads and one pulls out a link card and then the other pulls theirs out. How is that possible having two people in the same house have one? There are people in my family that have been denied the link card because they make too much, but yet they struggle at times to put food on the table. I just hating seeing people that have it abuse it when there are people out there that really need it. I think that the system needs to change and do a little more work than just giving it to anyone. This topic makes me really angry because working in a grocery store you see link cards more than you do debit or credit cards and saying that I think there is something wrong.

To be honest, I do not really know all that much about the LINK card situation. the things i do know is that its a government funding of some type that helps families based on the size of the family and the needs, and gives them money to help with things like groceries and gas. I don't really know what the criteria they have to meet to get one though. But Im oing to answer the questions with the best of my ability.

I feel that i know a few people who deserve a link card. My family is in debt lately with all the expenses we have to pay, especially since me and my sister went off to college...But i don't know know of anyone who has one. Even if they did have one i wouldn't want to seem nosy and ask them. I don't want do just know a person based on whats in their wallet any way, it doesn't really matter to me. But even still, people should not waste their government spending on things like snacks. Even if they do have a job and are getting some kind of income, i would not be happy if i saw a person wasting taxpayer's money on a candy bar and a mountain dew.

So i would say that if there are people who are using this money for these things that LINK should definitely be restructured. They should try to make it that it records what they buy or something, so they can see that people don't waste the money that the government is giving them.

I feel that there are only some that really need a paper and that is even stretching it. Many people who have link cards right now take advantage of them and use them on things that are necessary at all. I don’t know of anyone that has one but I hear stories on them everywhere of people abusing them and using them for the wrong reasons. There are people out there that really need it. For example, if you are living with a single parent in a huge family a link card may be necessary for certain things. If you’re just going to use it on things that you don’t NEED then you shouldn’t have one. I think you should be tested before you can even get one. I also think they should only allow certain things to be bought with them.

I dont know anyone that doesn't need a link card, but I also think some people do not deserve it because they are lazy and don't even try to get a job or make money. The need to evaluate what the people are able to buy with the link card. For example, you shouldn't be able to buy soda and food that you don't need. I think they need to re evaluate the way they hand out the cards.

Many people try to work the system an many are really good at it. The need to evaluate what the people are able to buy with the link card. Yes I do know someone. That someone is me. I've been trying to get a link card every since I moved down here for school. Now I do work, but I also have rent to pay and other things as well. I think the people that waste their link on things that are not useful really don't appreciate what they have, and obviously don't need it as much as others. Most people who have link and the reason they do have is because of their children. There are many of lazy individuals who sit on their butts all day and collect link. Yes link should be restructured. I believe all college students should be able to receive link. Why? Because we can barely afford food even if we're working or not. We pay for school, we pay for our living and we also have to pay for food. I personally don't like the current system especially Champaign system. I have no problem with working because I do work it's just why do I have to work to get food stamps if I need them and can't afford food because I have bills to pay with my money.

Need is a really strong word to use. do homeless people need money to survive. do we really need that new laptop. trying to fix the system we already have is probably going to be the hardest thing. i mean after all laws were meant to be broken there is nothing we can do about it.

i know there is people out there that don't deserve to have link card. i've ran into people that would rather sell there link money for a bag of dope when they get like 200 more , then someone is is struggling trying to keep food on the table for there family. i think the system myself is messed up. i had link for awhile, and had to renew mine, & now that i'm in school full time, i can't get link anymore , when it could really help me and my family out . but i wouldn't say i would die with out it. but there are alot of people out there i think should recived it & get cash benfits, but they always seem to give it too the wrong person . but i would really have to agree, they need to reevaluate people who they hand it out too, and really look into people because to many lie.

I believe that the people who decide who get the Link card need to get into more detail about each person they are giving it to. People who lie to make life easier dont deserve the card, while others are stuggling to stay afloat. Therefore I agree with everyone who has posted on this question, that they should be more careful during the process of distributing such cards that change peoples lives.
