Tattoos & Piercings

What do you think about tattoos and piercings? Would you ever get a tattoo or a piercing? Why or why not? Which one do you prefer and why? Are there any benefits to getting tattoos?

Some people say decorating your body disobeys the word of God . . . any comments on that?

Do you judge people by their tattoos or piercings? If you don't like them, would you not date someone who has them?

I have no issue with tattoos or piercings. They are just something that I am not into and therefore would never get done to myself. However, I believe each individual has the right to do whatever they they want to their own body and so I keep my comments about such matters to myself. I guess the reall reason why I would never get a tattoo/piercing is because I don't see the point behind it all but that is just me. I have no underlining religious position on the matter to me tattoos/piercings just don't serve any real purpose but someone else might disagree. I have no real comment on tattoos/piercings being against the will of God as I leave religious matters up to the individual and I don't push my beliefs or lack thereof on anyone. I think that people do judge a person by their appearance and that includes those people with tattoos/piercings. I would have no problem dating someone with a tattoo or piercing as long as it is not extreme.

I personally like them both! But I do prefer piercings over tattoos because those you can at least take out, while tattoos on the other hand last forever and are very expensive to add and remove. I have 3 piercings, 2 normal ones and an industrial and am thinking about getting another! There are some benefits to having tattoos for example if you want to remember someone or a specific event those are ok because they mean something to you. And I don't really see how decorating your body is disobeying the word of god, its expressing yourself! And no I don't judge people on their tattoos or piercings, I may wonder but that's it...I would be a hypocrit saying that I judge people on their piercings when I, myself have them.

I believe that tatoos are really cool, but I would never get one. I think that they show a sense of being unique and show a little bit about a person. Piercings are something that I personally am not a huge fan for, but think that they look good on some people and bad on others. I also wouldn't get a piercing cause it would look bad on me. I do not believe that Gods intentions were for people to go out and ink their bodies.

I am getting a tatoos next week when I turn 21. The only benifit I could see to having a tatoos is really for your self wether it may be for a tribute to your family and friends or just somthing that you have wanted for a long time. The only disadvantages is if they are displaed and cant be covered some jobs wont hyer you. I do not have any piercings and probably never will but I do think that your body is your own and you should be able to do what ever you want with it because it is yours and yours only.

Everyone has their own beliefs on piercings and tattoos. I personally love them both! I have many tattoos and many piercings and will continue to get more. They show a persons expressions. Some people have different ways to deal with problems in their life so they express themselves with tattoos and piercings. There is nothing wrong with that at all. The older people think that piercings and tattoos are gross and unneeded. But that is because in their time stuff like that was not acceptable. Now days piercings and tattoos are the thing to do. The time has changed and new things are happening and this is one of them. Everyone has their own opinion and beliefs so to look at someone with tattoos or piercings as if they are wrong is wrong of the person who is looking down on them. Some people just have different ways they want their life to be and that's okay.

People are so stupidly over rated about judging about people with tattoo and piercings. I love every single tattoo and piercing that Ive got and I do not care what others say. I believe no body is perfect enough to judge about others and the only person that could judge me is god! and i think it is very crucial not to hire people because of their tattoos or piercings because we are just like others I mean sorry if an 70 years old grandma that goes to church everyday cant stand them or thinks its a sin but it is 2010 and its about the newer generation and their needs.

I wouldn't say they ruin your body but they do alter it. It is all opinion, some people like tattoos some people don't. It doesn't mean just because you got one your body is ruined. I do think you can ruin it by getting the wrong pricing or tattoo in other peoples eyes because they will disagree with it, but to yourself you got it so no. I do think eventually I will get a tattoo I just don't know what i want. It would have to be something of meaning.

I think that that tattoos are bad and piercings are bad except one or two on the ear. I don't think you should get something like tattoos because you often think what you are getting when you are a teen is really cool, but often when you get older you don't like what you got. Also your body does change as you get older and a belly ring or a tattoo might look really good on you when you are young, but when you get older they often don't look as good on you.

In a literal sense, Yes I do think tattoos and piercings ruin your body. God gave us free will. Yes I want a couple of tattoos but no piercings. I prefer the tattoo only if you are getting something sentimental that you want around until the day you die. I would also prefer piercings because you can take them out when you want and they are not embedded on you like a tattoo. Honestly when I judge someone their whole body would have to be covered in piercings but i understand that its their body and they can do what ever they want with it. With tattoos, its not as bad. If a girl has other piercings besides her ears I would not date them because that is just not my time. If they had a couple of tattoos I wouldn't mind.

Tattoos and piercings allow one to express their self and show individuality. The word of "god" is a set of rules made by prejudiced white males a long time ago, so get over that. tattoos and piercings alike have no negative affects, aside from the occasional "ooooh, look at that disgusting man little johnny" or "damn, you're gonna regret that 20 years from now! if not sooner!", but that of course is the biased opinion of the typical, simple minded, white American. suck it up, its the freedom to express ones self that makes this country "amazing", right?

Yes, I do think tattoos ruin your body because the first impression of a person with tattoos makes that person look stupid to other people. I guess today's generation does not know better and they do it as a way to deal with their problems, but I still do not think it is right. God gave you the body you got--enjoy it instead of defacing it. (OK, OK, if you MUST get a tattoo, just be sure it's a tractor or a barn).

Some tattoos and piercings can ruin your body. I think that the ones that you can hid or take out without having scars don't really ruin a persons body. I don't think it's against the word of God because people who believe in God still get them and they are still a part of God. I have always been taught that God loves you for you and if that you is pierced and tattooed then so be it. I have piercings I have 5 in my ears and then my belly button pierced. Personally I prefer piercings because they are removable without cost unlike tattoo which are with you for life, unless you get the expensive removal. I guess I would judge someones looks on their tattoos and piercings but I would always give them a chance to show me what their personality is like. I would just have to get over the fact that someone I like has all these piercings and tattoos if its love then I could ignore them.

Tattoos are considered art to some people. It could be argued that circumcision, make-up, hair dye, or hair cuts and shaving are defacing your body. God cares about what is inside of you--your soul. Your body is a shell and if you want to decorate it, so be it. I do have one and it is very small, but has a lot of meaning to me. I have a brother that is covered in tattoos and I have seen him judged by certain people, but he could care less because he loves having them. I guess my opinion is to each their own. ;)

I understand it's wrong but sometimes that's the way people can get people to understand them. Sometimes it makes you stand out, getting tats on your face is just stupid, and getting boyfriends and girlfriends names on you.

I don't mind tattoos as long as they don't take away from the persons looks. If I look at you all I see is tattoo, I don't care for it. It can hurt your chances for a good job. When I worked at a restaurant the owners wouldn't even look at the application if the person had any physical distractions. (Tattoos, piercings etc.) It may sound discriminating, but that is the way it is. You don't look professional if you look like the guy in picture with this question. I know an older gentleman that has a large tat on his calf and he says that he wishes that he never had it. After a few years, they don't look too good.

Tattoos and piercings are a personal decision that we have to live with for the rest of our lives. I have my ears pierced enough for one set of earrings, I can live with that. I wonder though will people with whole body tattoos or excessive body piercings and gauges be happy when they get older? The opinion of people in the past was people who did these things were "bad" or "mean"but I have learned that they are just regular people who choose a unique way of expressing their selves.

The more the better. Tattooing has been going on a long time, several centuries at least--just because it's relatively new to our culture doesn't mean it's anything new under the sun. I say the more color the better. We're pretty drab to look at otherwise, aren't we? I mean, most of us?

The one thing I don't like about piercings is how they get infected so easily. I had a chin piercing that made my whole face turn red and filled with pus. Nasty. And I was really careful to keep it clean, too.

i love tattoos, and i have a couple of pericing myself, its just the matter of where you get the tattoos and pericings. i feel that people who get face pericings and face tattoos should not do that because if thier not rich they will eventually have to get a job. the only thing would be is who would hire anyone with facial pericing and tattoos. no real business would.

I do not have a problem with tattoos or piercings. i have one tattoo as of right now and looking to get more sometime. then also i have both of my ears pierced. I would prefer a tattoo because i think you can hide them more. the reason why i got a tattoo was to remind me of my aunt who died of cancer and then my father got it and then my grandmother. i dont think it is a benefit but i got it to remind me of a time in my life. Then i wouldn't know the word of god about tattoo's because i dont attend church or haven't read the bible. Finally i never judge anyone with tattoo's because that would be ignorant because i have one myself. And i don't have a problem dating anyone with tattoo's

I think that tattoos and piercings looks good on some people and on some they don't. People get tattoos and piercings for so many different reasons. Most of the people I know that had their bodies ink reasoned that they felt getting one because of their emotions and what they've gone through in life. When I was younger I wanted to get a belly button and tongue piercing because I thought it looks sexy and cool but I knew if I did my parents would be so disappointed, so I decided not to. Now that I am older I am glad I did not get any because I felt it was unnecessary. Although I don't have anything against people that have them.

I love tattoo's and piercings. as a matter of fact, I have a piercing, but I tend not to use it because everytime I use one they seem to assume thing that isn't true.I have thought about getting a tattoo but part of me tell's me that right now it might seem like a great idea but in the long run it isn't. tattoos/piercings do tend to make people look more rebelious, and make others assum they have criminal records.I have judged people because of them i either think they work at a bar or they do piercings and tattoos for a living. and to be honest i have in very few occasions assumed they have been to jail and been wrong. I think I could date someone with them but they would have to be small or they would have to have them places where they aren't visible to everyone. For me, the only benefits that they could have is if you are a tattoo parlor the more tattoos the more you love them and the more you love them the better the tattoo's,and as for god i have no idea.

I don't judge anybody by their tattoos or piercings. How could I when I have them myself? I have my ears pierced 3 times each; cartilage in my left ear; my tongue pierced; my eyebrow pierced; my lip pierced; 6 tattoos--right shoulder; chest (not yet finished); left forearm; left bicep; base of my neck; and my right butt cheek. I love each and everyone of my piercings and tattoos; all my tats have meanings, and I am definitely not done getting them! I don't think it is "disobeying the word of god." I truly believe this is a way for us humans to express ourselves, especially in this country, where freedom of speech is supposed to be a right, but they have a way of taking away that right. Just as anything else in this world, this is a choice of the individual, and for the people who don't like them, simply don't look; you aren't the one who has to live with it. Tattoos and piercings could be compared to drugs or hobbies in a way, in that it really only affects the individual him/herself. I think the people who complain about them just like to have something to complain about and will complain about anything!

I do not judge people by their piercings or tattoos. I have several piercings and I decided to get them because I thought they wouldn't look horrible on me. I dont think that by getting piecings or tattoos makes you any less of a person, or you shouldn't be denied a job because of your individuality. Also by getting tattoos it kind of can tell a little bit about yourself.

I dont have any problem with tattoos or piercing. I feel that tattoos show image, art work, memories, or expression about the person. With piercing i to much dont care but i dont really like when people have a lot of them on their face. To me there both equal. I dont really know how tattoos benefits a person. I have no comment to that quote. I dont really judge people by their tattoos or piercings because most of my friends have them.

I personally dont have anything against piercings and tattoos, although some piercings on the face look kind of wierd on certain people. But you have to be careful with getting tattoos, for example neck and face tattoos could possibly stop you from gaining employment in a conservative environment. Also if you're newly dating some person raised in a very religious family, and you walk up with a body full of tattoos you could possibly be prejudged based on appearance, instead of your true personality. I have a tattoo but I made sure I got it in a place where you couldn't see it if I didn't want you to. As far as religion, I've heard it could be against the bible to do so, but i've never read that for myself. The benefits if that's what you would like to call it, could be putting a permanent memory of a person or event in ink on your body, ex: deceased grandmother. I wouldn't judge someone with either, its that individuals own personal preference of expression.

I have no problem with people that have tattoos or piercings but I do believe that some people in our society judge people who do. I would still date someone even if they had tattoos or piercings, it just isn't something that has ever bothered me. I do not know much about the religious aspect of tattoos and piercings other than some people say it is harming the body that God gave you. I do think that in the culture we live in, tattooing is becoming more popular as well as piercings but some older people may have more problems with it because that is not what they grew up with. If i ever were to get a tattoo, it would be something that I could hide for things like job interviews.

I don't think it's wrong to get piercing's or tattoos but I also don't think it's right. I have my ear's pierced but I'm pretty sure almost everyone else does too. I think that if you are to get a tattoo, you should get a tattoo of something you love or enjoy like a loved one, a pet, etc. It fine to get a couple tattoo's but you shouldn't over do it like some people and get your entire body covered in tattoo's or even piercings for that matter.

No, I don't judge people who have tattoo's or piercings. They are no different than people who don't have piercing's or tattoo's.

I feel tattoos and piercings are ok in moderation. I don't like when people have piercings everywhere and don't even look presentable. With tattoos I feel they should have some meaning behind them, and not just getting them to look cool. I would definitly get my ears pierced and get a tattoo but my parennts won't let me. i have to wait till i have my own place. I would prefer a tattoo but like I said before it would have to have some deep meaning to me.
I don't really care what people do to there bodies but in some cases they just look stupid and I really don't understand it. I say it's there body let them do to it what they want. I don't believe in god so it really doesn't bother me.
I definitly will judge a person on there tatoos and piercings from my first glance but I really only care about how they are as a person. I will try to get to know them regardless, but sometimes people take piercings and tatoos to far. Dating a person with piercings and tattoos would completely depend on how they act as a person. She could be tatted up on her whole body it doesn't make her any less of a good person, but it could have negative affects on the way strangers see you out in public. That's where it would be the dividing line for me, if a person doesn't even look presentable out in public I don't think I can see myself with her then. Overall I think tattoos and piercings are completely acceptable.

I notice that most people are saying they like tattoos and piercings, and that's fine, but I wonder how these same people would accept other, less-conformist modes of self-expression--like chopping off a toe or pinkie finger, or wearing a mask, or singing everything instead of just speaking. My only issue with tattoos is that they are so trendy, it's hard to know when someone who gets one is really into self-expression or is only following their peers.

I do tend to judge people with tattoos & piercings, though I hope I alter my assessment once new info about the person comes in. Unless the tattoo is especially artistic or unique, I tend to judge these people as followers, not leaders. Just doing the same thing everyone else is doing.

I personally have no issue with tattoos and piercings as long as they are not out of control. It they can be covered by clothing then i have no problem with them. I would never personally get a tattoo or a piercing because i just do not think i would look good with either. I do think there are benefits of getting tattoos such as remembering a loved one or someone who was very close to you.I do not think it is disobeying God because it is just simply artistic expression. I sometimes do judge people by their tattoos and piercings just because sometimes they are so radical that it is hard not to.

I would not consider getting a tattoo or piercing. I feel that neither one, on a male especially, looks very professional. While they may seem cool while you are young, they become a hinderance when applying for a job. Also, when you get older, your skin is not as elastic, and the tattoos/piercings will not look as good as they did when the person first got them. I feel that it is a permenant decision that is often made in the heat of the moment, and I will personally never do it.

I have no problem with tattoos or piercings, and i don’t judge people with either one. What a person does to their own body is up to them. For most people having tattoos or piercings are a way of expressing themselves. When it comes to religion, that is up to them also. If tattoos or piercings disobey your religion that doesn’t mean you should judge them for it. If you don’t believe people should have them then that is your belief and it is your call on whether or not you should date them But either way you shouldn’t judge a book by the cover.

Sure i think tattoos and piercings are cool but personlally i would never do one. its not like to me have some form of body art. i dont really see how tats are against religous beliefs. they should be available to all sorts of people. it should be based on what the person feels is a way to express their form of body art. just like a music playlist or painting; tattoos and peircings are like a personal journal to some people. each tattoo and piercing might not mean anything to us but it has a different meaning to them.

I personally have no problem with tattoos or piercing. i feel its a hobby that people use to express their selves. it is always room to express your self in any way possible. I myself have tattoos, and each of them mean something to me and my life. now on the other hand it is a certain place for tattoos, simply depending on your place of employment. some bosses will not hire a person because of their appearance. so it would be better to put them in non visible place or places you can cover up. i mean even in relationships you should let someone know what you have on your body before you get serious, so the other person can decide if they are ok with it. personally i feel it shouldnt matter about whats on the outside its how a person treats you. tattoos are so called a sin to god but the way i see it, god is going to forgive you for your other sins why not this one. you only have one life live it as you please. simply because tattoos are not as serious as people make them out to be.
