I admit I do not know much about this though I do know in a lot of places fire fighters are volunteers In more ways then one. (some literally are just that volunteers, and the choose to volunteer their lives on the line.) The point of going into a building burning is to rescue those in need of help. Let's face it -Yeah people do stupid stuff in their houses, and yeah the job has gotten more dangerous and a lot tougher for firefighters. That's not the point. Even though their are obstacles that happen their is always a reason to continue. I believe that that reason is life is sacred. You can't put a price on a life, and saving someones life is almost a reword in itself. That's what I believe, and that's probably how a lot of fire fighters feel as well. I for one am proud, and great full for all the work firefighters do.

Clearly you have to go into the house, because that is your job. With being a firefighter comes great risk, and everyone knows that before they sign up. You should not have a problem with running into a dangerous flaming building because that is what you knew your job was going to consist of.

I feel some people don't care about risking their own life for others. Some people just feel the need to want to help someone from a fire. Me personally i don't think i could do it. I don't want to sound selfish but if i cant save my self from a fire i doubt if i could save some one else. Maybe with a view years of training, but in situations like fire fighting you have to have more that training, you have to use your own personal skills some times to do this job!

I thought about being a firefighter for a while. There's good pay, good benefits, plenty of respect, and the hours are usually pretty good. The reason I decided not to pursue that was because I wanted a job in engineering that would offer more opportunities to use my mind. The danger inherent in the job only briefly crossed my mind. I imagine that this is the same for most firefighters. There are many jobs that ask employees to risk life and limb. Firefighting is no different except that it probably pays a bit more than most of them.

Sometimes in the military people chicken out when faced with the prospect of getting sent to the war zone. To join the military these people had to sign contracts that make it difficult for them to just quit their jobs when they realize that military service isn't what they really wanted to do. I admit I don't know much about firefighting, but I imagine that this isn't true for firefighters and that for any firefighter if the danger is more than they are willing to accept for the job, then they can just quit the job without significant repercussions.

I think that if I were a firefighter I would tell myself that going into a burning building isn't about the people that may or may not be inside, its about the job. If I couldn't accept that risk then it would be time to quit, and if I wanted to stay in the job, I would know that I am choosing to live with that level of risk.

I think if your the typical person who likes to help poeple in distress then being a fire fighter is a good job for or anything that can help people. If you want to save people lives from burning buildings go far it. On the other hand I don't know if i could go into a burning building, I like helping people in all but I just don't know if i have the guts to go in there and risk my life. If it's a really close friend or a family memeber that could be a different story. Everyone's different some people can just go right in there and bring that one person out and be the hero. Then there is times when they can neither make it out. People know the risk there taking when they become a firefighter, so its there choice.

I wanted to be a fire fighter, but my parents were totally against it because I'm a girl. The risks are high but the feeling that you get after saving someone's life feels good. I think that feeling of saving someone must motivate them to keep going. If a fire fighter risks their live an doesn't make it, the family will be devastated, but in a way, it's better knowing they died trying to save someone else and was not killed by some gang banger.

It takes a special person to become a fire fighter. Many people don't realize how dangerous it is for them as a fire fighter. They also don't realize that most are volunteers. When they talk about down sizing people in the medical field that includes the fire fighters it makes me furious! Without all these people we would have no help. We need all the help we get get these days. Working in the medical field people think we just take care of people and put out fires, well it is a lot more than that and they found that out when they need us! Fire fighters are the heros and we should be very lucky to have men and women that decide to do this for a living, and gratedful the the families that support them. I did some ride time with a fire department and loved it. But it was to dangerous for me. I am very grateful to have people like you Cody to take on that duty.

It takes a real passinate person to become a fire fighter because of what the job intels. Risking and putting their lifes on the line for the well being of other individuals is a very honorable thing to do on a daily basis. Its very unfortunate that fire fighters lose their lives while saving individuals and in some cases even animals. But looking at the situation through their eyes they would probably say that they were only doing their job. I would like to say thank you to the fire fighters who continue to do a great job protecting and watching out for our saftey.

Coming from a family with several firefighters, I admire the people who do that job. Firefighting is a dangerous job, both physically and mentally. At times, since firefighters also cover emergency medical calls, they are exposed to horrific scenes as first responders. Firefighters put themselves in that position out of a sense of duty. They have a heart for others and a desire to make a difference.
Keep in mind also, how many firefighters are volunteers. Often times they have to help foot the bill for continued education and training, or at a minimum participate in fundraisers to help cover the costs. We owe them not only our support financially when possible, but an honor for what they are willing to do.
As far as arsonists? They should be caught and punished to the full extent of the law!!!! Among that punishment should be a required trip to a burn unit to see the damage they inflict with their actions as well as required restitution for what material damages were incurred. Requiring them to help in the clean up would be an idea too.
As far as materials used in housing goes, the building and saftey codes should reflect saftey for firefighters at every turn. People don't always realize that even things as simple as a commercial building air conditioner that sits on top of the building can pose danger for a firefighter. Fireproof your home, both to prevent an original fire problem, but also thinking about what would happen if someone had to come through your house in the dark for a rescue. Would you and your rescuer make it out OK?

For starters the idea that people would put holes in floors and do other things to possible injure fight fighters is disgusting. Being in the military I feel I have an good understand for the idea of giving your own safety for the safety of others. The mentallity of a fight fighter is I think probably just like everyone else, except when they go into a fire and then all there training and passion to save others is all that matters. I say thanks to all the fire fighters out there because there are tons of people that aren't as giving as them.

Personally no I would not be a fire fighter, as much as I think fire is cool and fun to play with running into a burning building is not really my thing. However I do have great respect for those that choose to do the job they are truly the hero's that don't get the fame they should. The aspect of maybe having to give your life in order to save someone else is just mind blowing. The mentality of a fire fighter must be that of strong will and the urge to save life when they can. I hear that it is a feeling like no other to save someone from certain death, and that on the the inside you know you did the right thing. This must be what drives fire fighters into the flames in an attempt to save all that they can. As for the people who start fires as to hurt others and even the firemen. I ask what is wrong with them that they have such a whole in their heart that they want to hurt or kill someone and/or the person that is trying to save them.

I command Firefighters for there courage and dedication. It is a blessing to have people willing to put their life on the line to save another. I personally don't want to be a firefighter and it has to do with the risk.I dont what a Firefighter mentality is, but i know they get a great an unexplainable joy inside themselves when they do saves lives, which probably motivate them to continue. It is shame that the houses are being built so cheap. The law need to look at that. This is why these homes also get so damage doing disasters, because it is nothing to them.

i dont know much about firefighting but i do think you have to have a certain mentality to do the job. i think you need to truly care about all people and their safety. i couldnt be a firefighter because i have like no strength, but if i was strong enough to do the job i would. i think its selfish of someone to say they love you but wont be with you because your job is risky, its not fair to you or the people who need you the most. its a job, someone has to do it and its for the greater good. i think its an amazing job and the ones who do it are good at what they do. they knew the risks when they signed up for it, no matter what house or what its made of, you cant just choose to skip one certain one because its too risky for you, someones family could be in there, and i believe that they know that and dont mind the risks.

I don't really know anything about being a fire fighter, but I do know in the town I grew up in they are all volunteers. It would have to take a very brave person to just run into a burning building to save someone that you don't even know.

I will say this I really do not think that I would go into firefighting as a career. I truly believe in saving someone else's life but, I am not trying to combat some thing so much more volatile then me. I know that if you are a strong willed person that you will go out of your way to make sure that a person is saved from a fire. There are people out there who we can depend on to save us from a fire , they risk getting hurt , and possibly burned to death to save others. I am sure they feel quite happy and contented with their accommplishments knowing that they saved another human's life. I happy that someone still cares. Thank You! Tracey Boswell
