Are hybrid cars really as green as people say they are?

If gas prices start going back up after the Presidential election, would you still keep your gas guzzler or go to hybrid cars? Would it pay off in the long run or be a waste of money? Are hybrid cars really as green as people say they are?

Thanks--

I would still keep my gas guzzler or maybe try to buy a car that is much better on gas.I dont think hybrids have been around and on the road long enough for me to make an informed decision on weather it would pay off in the long run to buy one.I mean sure they get 3 times the gas mileage or better. But when they breakdown the parts and labor to fix them is 4 times that of an all combustion engine.I don't think the hybrids are as green as they say.I think the tree huggers are exagerating in that area.I think to own and operate a hybrid would be a lot more expensive than a regular car once the warranty ends.

Gas is something you need and I a hy-brid wouldn't fit into my life style very good. You can't cross a creek or tote any heavey loads. Personaly I wouldnt trust a hy-brid just yet, they are a new thing and have'nt had time to break down or be research after normal everyday use. I think it would cost more money in parts for hy-brids than it would be to pay for gas in a regular car.

Now that i have a gas guzzling truck i will not go back to a small fuel efficient car or a hybrid. I feel alot more safe just driving around in a larger vehicle. The cost of selling your current vehicle and then going out and buying a fuel efficient car or hybrid will be more than just keeping your current vehicle. There have been studies done that it will take many years, sometimes close to 10 or more years, to pay off the initial cost of the new vehicle and the costly repairs that would have to be done.

i dont think we should go to hybrids on electrical. i think we should just evolve the internal combustion engine. people condone other types of fuels for combustion engine becuase they wear parts and gaskets and other components, but the things is all the parts are for gasoline. we have had over 100 years to make everything work in a gasoline engine and it seems we still cant figure it, so what wrong with tring something new to put in there. there are plently of fuels we can MAKE to use in a combustion engine.bob burnard

Honestly, I think it will be a waste of money. A lot of cars now get decent mileage for their in town purposes. Within these next several years, time it would take to pay off a hybrid, the governement will have poured money into perfecting the already created cars that run on air, water, electricity, and solar power. That is when you buy a car, when we will no longer be so dependent on oil. Plus, these new foreign** hybrid cars are highly expensive to fix. Good mileage on a car means you reach the mileage warranty quicker, means you will pay more in the end possibly anyway. So save your money and wait for the Obama administration to follow through.

I would keep my same car it does really well on mileage. I think the hybrid has a lot of issues and until they are ironed out I will not purchase one. They are also very expensive and I will not spend thousands of dollars for any car: I cannot afford it nor do I see a reason why I should be making people richer for something that is way over rated.

I already drive a car that gets around 28 mpg. But if I did drive a gas guzzler I would be selling it and be buying a hybrid for better gas mileage. Because I live about 30 minutes from where go to school and work, I have to drive a car with good gas mileage, otherwise it would be impossible to afford especially if gas prices go up.

I would not by a hybrid car; even if gas prices shot up and got up to $5.00/gallon. Hybrid cars are a new thing therfore we really don't know how they will work after several years have been put on them. Or how often will they need replacement parts which cost many times more than parts for regualar cars. There is no argument that a hybrid car will save money on gas but it really doesn't balance it's self out with how much more you will be paying for the actual vehical. I think people are just going crazy over them because the media is making "going green" the thing to do. It's not worth it.

my aunt recently got s hybrid and says she really likes it. it's a nice ride and of course, the gas mileage is amazing. i also think they are ridiculously priced. i think i would still keep my car that i have now though. i'm used ot it, it's a bigger car so i definitely feel safer in it. i do still think that hybrid cars are a good idea and they sure do seem as "green" as everyone says they are. i tihnk it's just a matter o opinoin and what you like in a car.

I would keep my car because I like my mustang which isnt that much of a gas guzzler anyways.

Since the gas prices are pretty low right now i dont think that many people are concerned about it. But America should look at European countries to see how its done. Gas is much higher in Europe, everyone drives around in small compact cars. Although if you have money to pay for a gas guzzer then why would you buy a new car. But car manufactures can create cars with 100 mpg if they wanted so until we have a real oil crisis it might not be worth it to invest in a new car.

Honestly the difference in the amount of money you spend on gas a year would not change that much between a V-8 and a four cylinder. approximately 400 dollars A YEAR!!! not even fifty a month. If you use average number of miles per year as 15,000. Meaning that buying a new car becuase of gas milage alone is not all the beneficial. While it may be beneficial for the enviroment, they don't actually save you much money at all!

I would keep my gas guzzler. Hybrid cars are great for busy traffic like the city. If you’re constantly stopping and going then hybrids are awesome, but for Champaign Illinois it doesn’t make too much sense to get one. In the future cars might run on just lithium batteries those I might buy.

I think that hybrids are as efficient as everyone thinks. I heard that hybrid cars can get 45 to 50 miles per gallon on the highway. My car only gets half that and its a Honda. Although larger cars are more attractive and more safe, hybrid cars are going to help the environment. Maybe one day when i can afford it i will purchase a hybrid car.

Some types of these new technology cars are actually a great idea. I am not so much for the hyprid but GM is working on producing a hydrogen cell vehicle, that can only run up to 250 miles but the only emisions it emits is H2O. The exhaust is so clean you can drink the water that comes form the exhaust. If i could afford it i would prolly switch to something a little better.

hybrids arent worth it at all the diffrence in cost form a hybrid to a regualr car takes to long to pay for. if you live in the city and you have a lot of bumper to bumper traffic then they get great fuel ecomony but thier still not worth owning. hybrids and a short term solution to a long term problem

hybrid cars may have better emmissions but besides for that there is nothing better about them. the money you may save on gas you spend on the extra cost of the car. im going to keep drivin my gas guzzlin trucks. fuck it.
