Ready for an African Amercian to Run the Country?

In what way do you think an African American President would change America or the World for that Matter? Do you believe that it is unwise for an African American to be president considering the risks and the history of rascism in America? Why do you think that America hasn’t had an African American President yet?

I dont think it would change America at all. I think its stupid to look at this president as just an African American. Why cant we just look at him as a guy. I always here people saying that African Americans and any other race wants to be thought of as equals, so why do we have to classify people as African Americans, or mexicans, or any other classifacation in a presidential election. Why dont we all just blind fold our selves and listen to what they have to say, then vote for who we think is the best possible president, But no we have to look at them and decide if we really want an African American, or a women, or a catholic in the whitehouse.

It shouldn't make any difference whether the person running for preident is white, black, male or female. What really matters is what they stand for as far as what they are going to try to do for the American people. I don't think we have had any black people running for president that were strong enough in politics to get close enough for serious consideration.

I really dont think that it would change America at all to have an african american president. THere will always be rascism towards both blacks and whites. I don't believe that some people will like the fact that we have a black president, but i also know that some people aren't happy that we as a country havent had a black president. Rascism today is no where as near as bad as it was 40 years ago, so I don't believe that it will be a huge issue to most americans. I believe that blacks now feel comfortable enough in america to run for high positions in government.

I think that an African American President would encourage tolerance and equality, principles that this nation was founded on, to a greater extent than any president before him. Having an African American as president would also show the world that America is a nation that stresses equal opportunity and would lead to more nations sympathizing with the U.S.

I don't believe that it is unwise to have an African American as president because it would erase the years of hypocrisy that the U.S. has had floating above its head, given the fact that it is supposed to be a nation of tolerance, and would help further break down racial discrimination. I believe it's important to have an unbiased African American president who strives to make the nation better rather than elevate one race over another.

I believe the reason America hasn't had an African American President yet is that it is a harder road for an African American to advance far enough in politics to where he has a legitimate chance to win a Presidential nomination. Just as John F. Kennedy had a difficult path due to the fact that he was Catholic, an African American has more to prove than a whit, Protestant counterpart would. Nelson Mandela was, relatively recently, the first African president elected in South Africa, a nation where Africans are the vast majority...America is still used to its own tradition and has normally elected presidents of a certain mold, so electing someone outside of the expected has only been a matter of time: until the right candidate has come forth.

I think that an African American President would be very influential to our society. It would be a nice change and show people that some one of a different race can do just as good or if not better than an Caucasian person. I dont think it is wrong for a African American President to dwell or talk about the past just as long as he wants to make it better and improve things. To be honest America is scared to have a President of a different race, I personally think if a democrat is going to win its going to be Hillary because she is Caucasian and a lady. I have heard alot of talk about doing anything not to have an African American President. I personally am planning to vote for him because I think he would bring a lot of good to this country. And hopefully help our racial issues in America as well.

First off, I believe that all men are created are equal. The past of the United States is rough for African Americans, but we are finally starting to figure out that if we all work together we can make it alot better. Hopefully if Obama makes it, it can show the world that America is truely united. Obama can't make it alone from the Black votes, so he will need to show whites, browns, and yellows how he will be a good leader.

In our country today, there are still white supremists. Other than those people, I think it is a great idea for Obama to run. Sure there will be some unhappy people, but lets just look at Bush's approval rating.

I think America has not had an African American holding this office because we have not been ready. There has been too much prejudice and racism for any black to try and do what Obama is doing.

I believe that an African American President would do the same as a American President. Just because he is a different color that does not change who he is. Maybe that would be the best thing is to have a African American to be President. That will show everyone that if an American can be President than so can a
African American. Life is much different from what it was years ago. No one should think about the racism, they should think about what her could do to better our country. -Jennifer Woodward (12:00)

I think that having an Afican American president would be a change for the better. But the world is not ready for change and not ready an African American president. Though most people will not be able to get past the fact that there might be an African American president and only see him for what he looks like and not what he has to say or what he believes in. I think that it is harsh just to jusdege someone by what they look like and not what they stand for. America these days is mainly focused on what people look like and how they are different than going by what they have to say. In time it could lead to disaster with all of the judgind and racism.

I do not think the color of someones skin should determine whether they are elected or not, rather the politics they stand by. I dont think that Obama becoming president will change America much at all. He is well liked and respected, along with the fact that racism is not nearly the issue it was 50 years ago. If anything, it will help work towards racial equality, which I do not think the U.S. has reached yet. I dont think we have had a black president thus far becasue of the racism our country suffered, up until the second half of the 20th century. Also, there havent been many strong candidates that have run and been considered for the ballot.

I think having an African American president wouldn't so much "change" America, I think having an African American president would shake it up. Over these long 200 plus years of the United States history, there have always been caucasian presidents. I just think it would be a little different to have a different race in office. I think it is a good thing that we have a person who is an African American running to be president despite the nations past history of rascism. I believe the reason why America hasn't had an African American president is because many have been afraid to do so. I think many African Americans afraid of something horrible may happen and to avoid that, they just never ran. I think if the U.S. does end up having an African American president, that will be one of the main highlights of history. That will reveal to other countries that America is over rascism and it will also show how "united" the states are.

I think an African American president should end up being much different from having a president of any other race, religion or planet, but I'm not certain if anything would actually change. Granted, it would be a nice change up from the 236 years of entirely Caucasian presidents, and it may encourage certain civil rights groups to become more active. I don't think there'd be many more risks to the job if the president were an African American, there may be a few extremist racists who want to take him out of office, but that has happened in the past with Kennedy and Lincoln. Why haven't we had an African American president? Any number of reasons: lack of interest, racism, lack of encouragement from the community, etc. I can't say for certain.

Rather you're racist or not, it still exists in this country. I think that if we did have an African American man as president it really wouldn't make that much of an overall difference. The racists would probably be mad and say bad things about the president, but doesn't everyone do that now? I think that the reason we haven't had an African American President before is because they haven't had equal rights as long as white people have and that racism still exists with some people. Also, white people might worry that if he became president then African Americans might be treated better than white people and African Americans are probably thinking the same. I guess we'll have to wait until election to find out if 2008 is ready for it.

I think having an African American president would change the world in many ways, mainly by helping racism. I think it would help open a lot of people’s minds (not everyone), it would help show that everyone is equal, and that we should not have the stereotypes that we have of people. I think it is a very wise and great idea to have an African American as president. Although America has had racism problems in the past, that is the past, and I feel America should be able to handle it and look past the person’s skin color and focus more on their ideas. I feel we have not had an African American president for the same reason we have not had a female president yet, no one has been brave enough to step up until now.

Personally when I decide to vote for a president, I don’t look at the color of their skin or their religion. When people vote they should look at who will be the best leader for our country. I know that there is still a lot of racism in the world today, but I know there is not as much as their used to be. I don't see it as we are ready for an African American president; I see it as we are ready for good president. I personally am a fan of Obama's political views. I believe he would make a great president.

I don’t think being African American would change anything. The man might change America, but being black would not change anything. With people thinking a black man is going to change America this just means that they have a racist opinion. The man him self would be the one to change America not the color of his skin. We have had many good leader become assassinated that were black, white, gay, and straight. There is no greater risk in having a black man a president. America has not had a black man or a woman for president, because there have not been any good candidates. The Rev. Jessie Jackson tried was a democratic runner several year ago, but he did not get the democratic nomination. The like Obama might not get the nomination either. My last thought is, if one were to say we can't have a black man be president just because of the color of their skin, then they're a racist. A man that is running for president needs to have good political polices, if he wants to become president of this great nation.

i think it is stupid to elect anyone because they are black, the person needs to be the best person for the job. i personally will not vote for mr. obama because i believe he is an extremist that would be dangerous to this country. i did not come to this conclusion because he was black, white, or purple. i judged his history and his judgment and he is not the president i would like to have. it is irresponsible for people to elect anybody for any reason besides they are the best person for the job.

It shoudn't matter what the race of the next president. That is irrelevant, what matters is if they do a good job, listen to thepeople and do whats best for this country. What should matter are the plans that they have in mind,etc,ect-for the better of the U.S. We have come a long way from Martin Luther King, and Mrs.Rosa Parks-I think that it's about time we have an African American as president,it will spice up the country. I hope for the best, and I think it will.
Nevertheless, whoever wins,it's not the color of the skin but the size of thier brain, and the plans he/she has for America.

English student said...

The only reason why I don't think other African Americans have ran for being President is because of their skin color and they don't think they could make it far in the campaign race because of it. I think they feel like because of the past history of African Americans and this being a white mans country that they feel useless in running. I think we are ready for a African American President even though my people won't move on from the past and won't get over themselves. It's time for diversity in this nation when it come to being an President and I think Obama would do a well job if he was President.

I hope that it changes the U.S for the better. It should not matter what race you are, but what you are trying to do. Having an African American president will show minorities that they can be great leaders and can do anything that they put their minds to.

I think that we have been ready for an african american president, but the way the country works they have allowed a black president. It shouldnt be like that but thats just the way it is though. It could go 2 ways it could bring everyone together or separate everyone. It s going to be people so pissed of to see a black president and its going to be people that are happy that america is changing and for the better.

I believe that he would do a fine job as president. There is a chance he might get assasinated but that is because of the problem of rasciscm in the past. I think that is the reason we havent had a black president so far.
