Do you think being a professional athlete would be the most ideal job? What are some advantages and disadvantages of playing a pro sport? Would the fame be worth some of the shame?

It would be an ideal job if you want money and fame. Some didadvantages are that people can't play sports all thier life-people grow old and wear out, break bones, and intense sports can be phsically, competive, and mentally draining, and accidents do happen. Some advantages are-money-buckets of money if you are good, and fame.
I think the fame would be worth some of the shame, who wouldn't want to be famous and show off what a great sports star they are. It could open doors for many things, such as becoming a movie star, for example-"The Rock",he used to be a luchador/profssional wrestler, and know look at him he's a movie star.He doesn't need to wrestle ever again to prove anything,he's there. So,my point is that it opens doors and it's worth the shame.

I think it would really awesome to be a professional athlete, but it all depends what you like, and what you want to do with your life. If you dont like sports, then why would you want to be a professional athlete? The advantages are you get a great pay check and fame. You will also be under a constant shadow of media, which i would hate so much, cause the media sucks. However, over all i think that the pros greatly out weigh the cons. As long as you arent a complete crap weezle and do things like pacman jones you should be okay.

I suppose it would be an ideal job if you were that into sports. Some of the advantages would be the money and fame of course. However, people can get seriously injured playing professional sports, and if that were to happen you could be out of a job. Being a professional athlete also means a lot of time away from family and friends. So whether or not it is an ideal job is a personal opinion.

I think that it differs from everyone if being a professional athlete would be the most ideal job. I for one, do not like sports unless it's the occasional game of soccer. I think that it is hard work and stress to be a professional athlete. You have to watch what you eat, exercise religiously, spend more time with your team playing and practicing than with your friends and family, compete with others and possibly be injured physically and emotionally, and have people constantly criticizing your mistakes. There are advantages such as: all that money, the fame if you could handle it, and doing something you like not to mention, staying healthy in the mean time. Overall, I think that if you enjoy and it makes you happy, why not get paid for it!

I don’t know I wouldn’t like to be a professional athlete. If I was an athlete I guess it would be something, which I enjoyed but I’m not an athlete. Some athlete’s make a lot of money and that is always a good thing. On the other hand, some don’t make much at all. An example of an athlete, which does not make much money, is American sumo wrestlers. If you like to be an entertainer, and be in the public eye being a professional athlete could be worth it. The most important think is finding something that you like doing for a living, if that is sports than follow your dream, and if not follow then go down that path.

I think is would be an ideal job. I mean you get to do something you enjoy and make alot of money. The only that would suck is the media. If you dissapoint fans in a season or post season game, your going to get hated. Also, it would be hard to have a wife and family considering you would gone for long periods of time. This would be hard because the only people you would be close with would be your teamates and not have any one to love. Once you get old and not able to play anymore you would have to invest money well in order to stay wealthy. But with the money professional althetes are making that shouldnt be a problem. All in all it is an ideal job to have.

I think it would be a good job if its something you are passionate about but I do think you need to have a back up plan. Don't think that you will make it big and never have to work again. Know that you have something to fall back on. Go to school first and have some sort of degree before going into something like professional sports. Its just like acting or singing... you dont know if you're going to make it.

I think that for some people being a proffesional athelete would be perfect. It would be good for the people who want the fame and want to be recongnized for their acomplishments.
There is also the group of proffesional athletes who are good enough to play in the pro's, but not so good where they can stay off of most peoples radar, and not have to worry about being bugged and annoyed with people coming up to them all the time.
Also they have to worry about getting hurt on one game bad enough and having their whole career ended with one mistake. Also with having to bust their backs in the same sport their whole lives their bodies are bound to wear out sooner or later. Once they have used their bodies up and cant play in the pro's anymore what are they left with? I think it would be worht it to play in the bigs but there are alot of down sides to it as well

I'm not really into sports so I dont think it would be the ideal job. The money and fame would be good while you are able to play, but when you get to old, or get hurt and cant play anymore you are pretty much just tossed aside and someone younger takes over.

I think professional athletes are overpaid, therefore it would be an ideal job for almost every American! If any professional athlete is at the top of his field, he will be certain to make boatloads of cash. Those who say that professional athletes are away from their families are forgetting that they chose to be an athlete, they could have gotten real jobs like everyone else. Then again, lots and lots of business men and women are away from home a lot, as are military members. I think the disadvantages of playing a pro sport might be that if you become injured, or fall from a super-star status you might be required to move on, and find a real job outside of sports. Or you could always coach a smaller team!

I think being a pro athlete would be an ideal job. Some advangates to having the ideal job as a pro athlete are making a lot of money, eating at places without having to pay sometimes, and having the chance to be a good example for younger children. A few disadvantages would be having a lot of nagging fans, the ones that just won't let the athlete be and worrying about the decisions that are made so that those decisions won't affect the positive image of the athlete. And when I think about it, anytime there is fame, somewhere there will be shame. It's just like the saying: More money, more problems.

it would be an ideal job but it is hard to play sports ur hole life and plus, if you get injured real bad, then you cant play anymore and have nothing to look forward to. i think that some advantages would be that everyone wants fame and fortune and that is a way to get both. a disadvantage would be like i said, if you get hurt, your pretty much screwed. i think it would be awsome to play a sport but not for all the headache it takes to stay in shape and stay fit.

I think that its a great job if your dedicated to what you are doing. but you have to think about other things that surround your life. If you have a family, are you willing to spend time apart from them? having people constantly monitor your life can be aggrivating. My boyfriend/my childs father played college football and to me it was hard during the seasons. we were never able to be together on fridays because they had to stay in hotels with the team. Planning vacatons was always hard because there was always a game on satudays. then you have to think about all of the camps.

I think it would be a great goal for a young person to set for themselves. But, they should have a realistic goal set in case they don't make it big. I think it would be great to be able to be a professional athlete, you would not only be set for life, but you would also be able to help alot of people if you wanted to. The disadvantages are, most professional athletes only play a few years unless they are luck enough be be very good and not get injured somewhere along the line. The fame would be good if you were somewhat grounded to start out, so you didn't just go out and blow all your money and get into drugs or alcohol.

yeah it could be an ideal job. One thing. You have to be good at it. I have no sport abilities. They do get paid a lot of money. You couldn't play the game all your life. You would have to find a fall back, but then again, you would have already a lot of money. I think if you really want to be a pro athlete you could. It wouldn't be in my cards to play. You would have the fame, be a kids hero, favorite player, and the money.
Sometimes it does get to the athletes head and they become cocky and don't realize that they do sometimes become real jerks. Which is why it wouldn't be my life that I would want to live.

It would be nice to have some of the money that they make, but i would not want to deal with the press all the time. Also the fans can champion you or turn on you at any secound. When your playing good the press and the fans like you but the moment you start screwing up they drag you down and want you off the team.

i personally dont think it would be an ideal job because i wouldnt want to be away from my family, but thats me. there are some people out there that are more into being famous, rich and all that comes with it. those people dont care if they see their families as often as they should or really care about too many other people than themselves. some advantages are people idolize you and want to be you because you are good at something, but that also can be a bad thing because the first time you slip up then your reputation goes down the drain. being a professional athlete is time consuming and i guess it just depends on a persons own priorities as to if it is an ideal job.

I don't think that being a professional athlete would be the most ideal job, but it would be a great job. The advantages are that you get paid very well to do something that you enjoy, you're in great physical shape and health, you make millions more in endorsements and appearances if you're a really good athlete, and you have the opportunity to help many people and to be a role model for them. The disadvantages, however, are that your chances of getting injured are high, constant practice can be repetitive and can turn something you love into a chore, and that everything you do is magnified by the media and they try to tear you apart sometimes. But, I do think the fame is worth the risk of shame because it is an amazing opportunity to make a lot of money doing what you love, it gives you a chance to be a role model for many kids out there, and gives you a chance to compete on the greatest stage in the country, or the world, night in and night out.

I believe being a professional athlete can be the ideal job. If a person wants to do it and enjoys it then that completes it. There's no definition of a ideal job so it can be a ideal job. There are many advantages with being an athlete, the power, repect, money, the recongination that these athletes get is a positive that some enjoy. At the same time there are many disadvantages with being an athlete, the privacy isn't there as being a regular person, many people will know everything about you life, if an athlete makes a mistake it will be on ESPN the next day, basically an athlete will always be in the publics eyes. Being an athlete is a good career to take on but if an athlete starts taking advantage of it then it doesn't run well with the media and people won't appreciate you and might dislike the atthlete.

I think that being a professional athlete is one of the most ideal jobs if you have a true passion for the sport that you are playing. If you do not, I do not think it is because the negatives will most likely outweigh the positives. It is an extremely high paying job, with many benefits like fame, publicity, etc... On the other hand, being a professional athlete has many downsides. You have to travel away from your family a lot, constantly moving to play in your next game or whatnot. Its hard to get any alone time with paparazzi and fans always trying to talk to you and take pictures of you. Most sports are dominated by younger athletes, so the older you get, the harder it is to thrive in a sport. Also, in many peoples cases, their sports careers are ruined by the very fame that made them so untouchable. Take Roger Clemens, he is known as one of the best picthers ever, but after the steriods controversy pans out, he will most likely never be looked at the same way again. So, I think for this to be the ideal job, your love of the game has to be very strong for you to overcome all of the negative side effects that come with the job.

i guess it is a job. and no mater what kind it is you are making money more or less. i think there are lots of advantages that comes with the job. but i guess i consider them as job benifits.there are also lots of disadvatages like no matter where you go peple follow you and that jus doesnt give you any privacy but i guesss it comes with the job. i guess fame and shame really both worth it but it really depends on how you look at them. it is just like how person wants to get notice by others or they either dont want to get notice. but i think most of the pro's are fake. they cant really be honest about things they do in their carrier and life. so i dont think it is worth it.

It would be a great ideal job if you wanted all the money and fame. Fame and money are 2 big advantages to doing it but you would also be doing something you love for a majority of your life. I would love to be that amazing at a sport and love to play it on a daily basis. It would be amazing. The disadvantages would be that you would be famous, and people might follow you around, and also it tears your body apart. For example, baseball pitchers always have problems with their arms. There are a lot of knee injuries and so many other injuries that could just end your career in a blink of an eye. I do think it would be worth a lot o the shame, if it gets you to where you want to go in life.

If you want the money then yes it would be but its hard work though. It looks easy on TV but they are monitored with every little thing they do and say. They can even really go out without being attacked by fans its a lot of baggage that comes with it. The schedule they have and all of that. The upside is the money though because they get paid serious money to do play sports.
