I believe that we encourage activities that cause obesity. All of the video games and computer games that have been created are a very good example. Instead of playing outside or participating in sports, kids sit on their butts and play video/computer games. Sure, their fingers are getting exercised but that's pretty much it. The entertainment world is mainly to blame, but also working. Workaholics don't have time to exercise, supposedly. They're too busy trying to get rich. So, greed would be another reason for obesity. Exercising won't get you money, it'll only make you healthier. Who cares about health? I think that in most cases, obesity starts as a child. Parents don't have time to fix meals so they just get McDonalds. They also don't have time to play catch with their kids. So all the kids really do is watch tv and eat. In the end, laziness is the cause of obesity.

I do believe the whole system today is set to "why" we have obesity. Evertthing is technologially inclined today. We have remote controlls for everything. Even car steroes have remote controls to them, and their within arm reach. We have become the laziest generation of people. Not to mention alkl of the fast food and resturants America has. We are so caught up in this kind of world. So now companies are making a killing off of Americans with Weight lost products and surgical proccedures, Which is also considered another invention of technology in action. On top of all that America has the profile of being thin, tall, and attractive as BEAUTIFUL! It's just to much to live up to. You have meet alot of standards to be considered gourgeous. Makes you want to go eat don't it?

I did not look at the website because it is not a very good source. I do think that obesity is a very big problem with Americans. There are many things that I think causes obesity today. One would have to be that we all have to work at our low paying jobs so much that we don't have time to work out. We also have kids, houses, and other activities that we have to do inorder to get a better job or to receive more money just to pay the bills. The second thing would have to be all of the quick fixes in the world today to loose the weight. "Take this pill and you will loose weight, no excersise needed and no altering your diet." We also try to find quick things to fix to eat because of the busy work schedual that we all have. It takes no time to pull out the wallet and go through a drive through on the way home.
There are so many things in this world that is making it hard for people to stay in shape and look good. There are some people who look good big and others don't. Being big is not for me and I would rather stay small instead of having to do something because I am effecting my health.

I believe that obesity is a big problem in America. There are so many children that are overweight and they end up carring it to adulthood. This is truely not a healthy way to live your life. I think that we sould hit obesity at a young age by limiting the time that they get to play video games or watch TV. Another thing that is starting to effect children is the time they spend on the computer. Parents need to take better care of their children by making them healthy food as well as taking care of themselves.

Yes, I think that the nation encourages activities that cause obesity. Now that we are getting smarter and making more advancements in technology, things are becoming more and more easy. Now you don't have to walk outisde to start your car if you have a remote start, you can shut off lights by clapping your hands, and car washes make it to where you don't have to wash your car yourself. Simple everyday things like this cause us to get lazy and make us not to want to do anything. People want things done for them nowadays when they could easily be done. Video games and movies encourage you to sit down and stare at a box. All these things are contributing to obesity in America.

Americans are a mess with their health. Everyone is so busy so fast food is very dependent on. Also, people are just lazy. They don't want to exercise or do any physical activity. I think so many people eat unhealthy and they don't know what it does to their bodies. Watch "Supersize Me" and I promise your views on fast food will change. Obviously there is a problem in America since we have an obesity epidemic. Children are obese and stagnant. I think that Americans eat too much, too unhealthy, and too often. They eat whenever there is food in front of their face. Our health care will be on the rise for the rest of our lives unless we start becoming healthy. People will be getting heart disease and diabetes at young ages...and we will be paying for it. That will suck. Health care plans are already paying for less because people aren't controlling their health. This is one of the reasons that I am going into the health field. Obesity is out of control and it's embarrassing. I wish people would start taking action in what they are eating and get moving. You really can't blame anyone but yourself.

I dont believe people today are being encouraged to become obese so much as i think people are becomeing more obese due to the new technology there is to make things much easier for people to do. like havng remotes for everything so people don't have to get up and flip a switch or press a button. For example, i know people that have remote for their lights and fans. Thats rediculous. That is just one example of many things that make peoples everyday chourse easier. Those little tasks could help a lot. Also i think it is advertised to eat healthy and work out more today than it was 5 or 10 years ago. The problem is that people are getting so busy now that when they have free time they just want to sit down and relax. also that it is so easy to stop a mcdonalds and get a cheeseburger in 2 minutes rather than going home and cooking a meal. I think its just easier for people to be obese than it is for them to stay fit so they just do that.

I think that America is actually promoting healthy living in today's youth more than in past years. Parents are encouraging their kids to participate in sports as well as eating the right foods and living a healthy lifestyle. Even though 1 in 3 (I think that's right) children today are obese, that doesn't mean that kids aren't trying to live better. Yes, there are kids that do nothing but sit on their butts and play Halo or whatever all day, but there are also kids that run track and play basketball and are active and are outside a lot. I do believe that the media, however, could do a better job in trying to get kids to be healtier in life. You see commercials for McDonalds and Burger King way more than you see Subway or other healthy alternatives to fast food. Also I think parents should be a little more strict when it comes to their children's health. Some parents today don't limit their kids to eating a set amount of snacks a day or playing outside an hour a day. Instead they let them sit around and get fatter and fatter. The nation is starting a change, but it needs to be a lot more enthusiastic about health in order for kids as well as adults to finally get healtier.

The nation today does encourage obesity. A lot of people play video games instead of going outside to play. Growing up we always played sports outside, but it seems like today all kids do is play video games. There are so many more things for people to do indoors today. The entertainment industry is growing and offering so many new things for people to do. People have forgotten about what the outdoors has to offer. The fast food industy has had a crippling impact on the number of obese people. Fast food is some of the unhealthiest stuff that people can eat. It's convience has made it a staple in people' diets. Fast food and video game advancements in our nation have encouraged obesity.

I think that the United States is definately becoming more obese. I feel that one of the main problems is fast food and how much of it people eat. It is way too convienant to go get a cheeseburger somewhere, and if somebody gets a cheeseburger he usually gets some fries and a drink with it. Since 1980 obesity in the U.S. has doubled and is higher than any other developed country in the world, so it is definately a problem. Also, I think the increase of technology has had an influence on obesity. A lot more people sit at a computer desk all day instead of getting out and doing manual labor, like they had to in the past. And children are spending way more time in front of the T.V. than they used to. I think this decline in physical activity, tied in with the increased consumption of unhealthy foods is to blame for the obesity problem in America.

Yes, i do believe the nation encourages behaviors that inevitably cause obesity. For instance there are tons of channels on TV to choose from in this day and age. Its hard not to find something on TV that will grasp your interest and make you sit down rather then going to exercise. On top of everyone watching TV video games is going to be the death of us all. With all the new realistic and interesting games out it makes it a lot harder to go outside and play sports instead of just popping in a disc and having just as much fun. Our society today values convenience more then anything so obviously we are cutting out hard work to reach our goals faster. Although this is not always a good thing due to the fact that a lot of people are becoming fat asses. I played sports in high school all my life and even i have been slacking when it comes to exercise. I admit sometimes video games can get the best of me too.

The nation does not encourage activities that cause obesity, but they do allow them and they definitely don't discourage them. Video games, computer games, and television are the main activities that the nation need to try to restrict. Parents need to encourage their kids to leave the TV and computer alone and participate in some activities. If parents get involved early enough, they can greatly improve their kid's health and give them a better future. Parents need to cook healthy food for their families.

The cause of most obesity is inactivity. It's simple, if you take in more calories than you burn, you are gonna gain weight. If you do that often enough and for an extended period of time, you will be obese. It's that simple.

I think today we do encourage obesity. As a kid we had videogames but nothing like today. When I was young, I was always outside playing sports and having fun instead of being in solitary and playing videogames all day. Our fast food resturaunts also help the cause of our obestiy. Im not 100% sure, but I think America is the highest rate of obesity in the world. Some people can't help that they are bigger than others because maybe they were just born that way. I think it all depends on how you were raised, and your work ethic. As a parent you should and have to give your child healthy foods, not high cholesterol and high calorie things. Today it just seems like kids are watching TV, playing video games, and eating. Laziness is the key to everyone's obestiy.

Obesity has become an American epidemic. People want the comfort of food and the lethargic state that soon follows after eating two big macs and a large fry in one sitting. It doesn't suprise me that Americans are fatter. Americans are consumers. We consume huge amounts of gas while working at our beloved jobs that bring in the almighty dollar. We consume large amounts of products and materials just going through the motions of our normal routines. We also consume valuable time and energy trying to make things go faster than they ever should. I think thats probably the reason most fast food joints are doing so well. No one has time to go to the store and spend their hard earned money on expensive vegetables and then go home and cook a good wholesome meal. Why do that when there is a Burger King right down the street. Why should you pay a large amount of cash for a bag of vegetables when a bag of juicy hamburgers cost mere pennies? Why indeed? Another reason for the epidemic is because exercise has become a hated past time. Which would you rather do; exercise or be entertained? Personally I would choose to be entertained, but then I would snap myself back to reality and force myself to look at the state my mother is now in. Right then a need to crunch like I've never crunched before would come over me. People really should just get out there and enjoy the life they live. You only get one shot at this thing so make it worth the time you consume so willingly.

Child obesity--Child obesity is very much out of control in our society for the simple facts that parents pretty much give children whatever they want. It is like the children are running the parents lives. To prevent child obesity i think that there should be more outside activity going on. It seems like children these days are getting to be more and more lazy. With all the television and videogames and everything. It seems like kids now spend most of their time inside by themselves in front of the TV. I think it is a very good thing that P.E. is madatory in Illionis for all grade and high schoolers. I really don't think that strict diets are the answer I just think that many kids just need to get outside and play and have fun and get more exercise.
Adult obesity-- adults may find it easier to go out and get something fast and easy to eat for their family rather than take the time to cook a nutritious meal. That may lead to the reason of why many adults are unhealthy. It is just easier to grab something from McDonald's, Hardees, or Burger king on the go than it is to take the time to prepare a meal.

the nation doesn't encourage obesity, fast food restaraunts cause obesity with all those dollar menus and eighty nine cent drinks and every other fatty food for less. people think its okay just to stop at the closes burger king or mcdonalds. When in actuality they could spend less on something healthier.

I think that some people who are overweight either have no self-control or are just natuarally obese. Some need to have the control to slow their eating process. Eat better and healthier.

I would definitely agree that America encourages activities that cause obesity. Fast food resturaunts are preying on addicts just as much as tobaco companies are. And our government doesn't seem to do much to regulate the safety of the food. I'm not exagerating when I say fast food is dangerous. Obesity, if it isn't already, will soon be more of a threat than smoking complications. It is true that many Americans are choosing to comsume such unhealthy products, noone is forcing big macs down the throats of the public. However, how are people supposed to eat healthier when it is dramatically cheaper and easier to not? Someone can get thoroughly fed at Mac Donalds for a fucking dollar. Now that's just rediculous. As far as the government's responsibility in this matter goes, I think there needs to be more funding for health education at least. I, myself, am unnaware of the legalities that would come into play with certain governmental proceedings, but still, something has got to be done to intervine with these fast food companies killing all these people. Three in five Americans are overweight.

Americans are so unheatlhy! We eat way to much and way to much of bad stuff. The adult obesity rate has tripled just in the past twenty years! Altought genetics do play some role in our health, I think it is mostly due to our laziness and the convenience. It is easy and hassle-free to just drive up and get your food for less than five dollars. Can't beat that right? Think again. It starts to add up in both your pocket and in your butt! Not to mention the american children. Parents are just taking the easy way out and giving them whatever they want, and that usually results in pulling into McDonalds for a Happy Meal. And when they won't behave we bribe them with candy or pop. Just yesterday a lady I work with told me she let her kids have a peanut butter sandwich with marshmellows, m & m's and left over halloween candy just so they wouldn't run around! It's a serious problem! Americans are so unhealthy the end.

There are two MAJOR reasons that the nation is encouraging activities that cause obesity. The first is fast food restaurants. They are so easily accessible and now a days, people have decided that driving through a fast food window is a lot quicker than putting the time and effort into making a meal. The other is exercise. So many children are so tied up with video games and the computer and internet that they don't want to exercise anymore. Sometimes I do believe that obesity has to do with genetics, but everyone can keep healthy and fit with a good diet and exercise.

yes i do believe the nation today cencourages activities today that causes obesity. Look at all these different types of junk foods that come out every year. There is never an advertisement for healthy snack for kids to eat. Also, all of these elctronic games that are coming out for kids. There not wanting to go outside anymore and play like i did as a child. The jobs we work at are jobs that usually require long workinghours and lets be serious n one has the time to exercise after they get off of work. People dont have time to eat healthy or exercise becuase the hours they work take up most of the day. All of these fast food restaraunts are not helping either. The lack of healthy food not being advertised and the entertainment industry are the casues of obesity in our nation.

I believe all of us contribute to the problem of obesity. From the lazy or workaholics who decides to eat fast food all the time or those who choose large meal portions to the companies who provide and Advertise! Advertise! Advertise! I am also tired of seeing High Fructose Corn Syrup as the second ingredient in practically everything. Due to this, I buy the organics of these products if possible. We are also a lazy country with video games, tv, computers, personal segways, etc.
So many contributors to the problem.

A part of me says that we do encourage obesity, but then again I really don't know. We encourage it by having double cheeseburgers be only a dollar and having a salad like five dollars. People are cheap--they're obviously going to go after the cheap food that they can get fast. I just think it's ridiculous how expensive it is to eat healthy these days. Also, parents really need to stop spoiling their kids and watch what they eat and how much. Children need to get out there and get some exercise but with all the new video games coming out, that's kind of hard. So yeah, I've changed my mind and am all for blaming society. We're making things too easy.

The majority of activities that many teens participate in are activities that cause obesity. Such as playing video games, watching tv, being on the computer, ect. The number of fast food restaurants in America is also a major cause of obesity in most Americans today. PE classes in America are nothing like they should be. There is very little physical activity that goes on in PE classes.

Our nation seems to be doing everything in its power to encourage obesity. We have people who shove as much food down their throat, as fast as humanly possible, just so they can win a contest. I don’t even know if kids understand the meaning of physical activity anymore because their entranced in video games like zombies. Half the time their dads are exercising their thumbs right next to them, challenging them to a rematch. When I was a kid, we had to play outside all day. Instead of motivating people who are overweight we give them every opportunity to remain inactive. For example, stores are equipped with motorized scooters to prevent them from overexerting themselves from any unnecessary movements. People are so unhealthy these days. It really bothers me to see parents letting their children live this way. They may as well be shoving a pack of cigarettes in their mouths all day long and forcing them to smoke the same amount everyday.

I definately think that today's society has caused the rising number of obese americans. For starters the number of fast food restaurants, there everywhere, it madness. How are americans not supposed to get fat when no one cooks at home anymore because they don't have time and all they do is get take out. It is scary to think about what this nation is coming to and what the nation will be like when are kids are running it. Unless society cuts back on the sterotype on overweight people and quits pushing for everyone to be as thin as a pole, then the situation has no chance of easing up.
